Very cool little place! Chad responded quickly to our late request. Although it seems he is still working on the place, we had all we needed to have a pretty raw cabin experience.

Future guests, it's important you know that there is no electricity (as of July 2016)! The photos posted for this property show an electronic stove, light bulbs, light switches, microwave and lamp... which naturally led us to assume we'd have a little electricity. When we arrived at 8 p.m., we discovered all the wires were cut and the appliances were just for show? We used the stove as a pantry because a squirrel is living in the building; it gets in through a large hole near the ceiling. We brought an electronic coffee maker and electronic pump for our blow up mattress, so we were forced to problem solve the first night (after a few beers). The building is clearly in the process of being gutted and renovated. We were prepared for it to be "rustic," but we were disappointed because it was much dirtier than shown in the photos, and the building wasn't properly sealed up. There were several holes in and near the ceiling, big enough for a squirrel to get in and make itself at home. We were lucky it didn't rain because we can see where there are leaks in the roof from water stains on the floor and where sunlight shines through gaps in the morning. Also, there were exposed nails hanging down from the rafters (unsafe), and we checked out the support beams for the deck, and they are tilting toward the lake.. a bit worrisome. For $62 a night, we didn't expect a lot, but this still was below expectations. The best thing about the property is the location. Right on the water with a nice lawn, this building is private and is set up to have a great view. We spent a lot of time on the large covered deck, where there is a glass and wicker table and comfy chairs. The view was great. The lake was also warm for swimming. If you do decide to stay here, bring plenty of electronic lanterns and lights unless you want to use the carosene lanterns provided (which will stink the place up a bit -- we tried). The grill provided was really dirty, but we brought our own. You'll need to bring a cooler for any food that needs to stay cold. The outhouse was new and clean as of July 2016 -- very nice and private. The lawn area is great but it wasn't mowed. Bring cleaning supplies to wipe things down and bring your own linens. The squirrel makes the place dirty, even if the host cleans. We think the host should seal up the building, clean more and make clear there is no electricity in the listing several times, as the photos are misleading.

The place looked as if he might be starting to renovate it. Not sure how you would currently stay there in winter since the fire stove inside vents to inside. During our stay it rained during the night and we discovered that the roof leaked in a few places and we were quite happy to have lucked into having not put our stuff there (a chair, a coffee table, next to the bed). Also in the morning we woke and discovered a squirrel had also spent the night in the cabin with us despite keeping all the doors closed. We expected a shower with water. There was a room next to the out house that seemed as if it should be a shower but we didn't expect that we would have to provide our own water/container for holding it. The host did supply a full 1.5 liter water bottle but that just doesn't feel like enough for a shower.

Location was excellent right on the lake, it's fairly secluded and out of the way. There are neighbors on both sides of cabin but they were far away enough that it felt like they weren't even there. This place is very rustic with no running water, although a jug for the outdoor shower with water is included. The house seems to be in the middle of restoration, with cobwebs throughout the house inside and out. Also there were exposed nails inside on the frame and the roof and floorboards had exposed holes. Flying bugs were able to get in and out pretty easily, so pack bug repellant. Thankfully it didn't rain, otherwise there would have been leaks. There are a bunch of oil lamps for lighting at night, if you aren't familiar with how to light them I'd research beforehand. The outhouse is brand new which was good, and there's a fire pit and chairs in the backyard. There is a full size bed that had clean sheets and pillows, bed slept well. It was perfect for our stay. If you aren't used to this type of minimal accommodation I wouldn't recommend it, but if you are this place is perfect. Just be prepared to make it comfortable for yourself, like bringing headlamps, water jugs, a camp stove etc. Again, the location and scenery are beautiful and for the price you can't beat it.
