A unique experience: beauty, peace, wilderness. A private rural spot with far-reaching views over a stunning slice of wild Devon. Without foregoing luxury: immaculate linen, double bed, wood burner, subtle electric lighting, views up the Teign gorge to Dartmoor, covered well equipped outside kitchen, hammock, fire-pit & probably the finest composting loo in England. A short stroll down a leafy, private track to a conventional toilet, hot shower & wash room with fridge.

El lugar

If you long to be on your own in the open countryside, in a secluded spot with far-reaching views over a stunning area of wild Devon, but also like the idea of little luxuries like solid walls and windows, a comfy double bed, wood burner and hot shower, come and spend a few days in Fingle Caban. Nestled on the edge of a native broadleaf woodland with wonderful views over a large south-facing field that we manage for wildlife and up the Teign gorge towards Fingle Bridge, Fingle Caban provides unique accommodation for two.

The Caban has a sofa which pulls down (easily – can be deployed by one person) into a comfy full sized double bed, a woodburner (Chilli Penguin - made in Wales) to cosy up to on chillier evenings (wood supplied) and a stylish table and chairs. The Caban has been thoughtfully decorated and has full blinds so that you can enjoy a lie in- though we can’t guarantee the morning chorus will allow it! Outside is a well equipped, covered kitchen, a hammock, fire pit/BBQ, picnic bench and private composting toilet. A short walk down an oak and cherry lined private green lane (approx. 300m or 4min walk) takes you to a shower and toilet room and a wash room with sink, kettle, fridge, washing machine, power points, etc.

Offering comfortable and stylish accommodation in an amazing setting, the Caban provides far more comfort and security than fabric structures but leaves no more trace than a tent when removed at the end of the season.
Meticulously designed and built by innovative craftsmen in Snowdonia, with an impressively low carbon footprint, ‘Caban’ refers to the name given to Welsh mining cabins which offer shelter in remote but charming locations.

Disponible para huéspedes

You'll have sole access to Fingle Caban and the woodland and field around it. Use of the toilet and shower and wash-room/kitchen area in the old farmyard. You'll also be able to use the shared facilities at Clifford Barton, namely access to the 50 acres of private woodland/meadows/lake, the Games Room: a historic barn with table tennis, table football and snooker/pool table, and a bike pool to assist guests' exploration of the wider area, eg. up the lovely Teign river-side track to Fingle Bridge, where you can enjoy the vibrant blue flashes of the kingfisher, dippers, see salmon leaping and if you're lucky get a glimpse of an otter. So put your car keys away and go and explore the wonders that the Teign Valley and Dartmoor has to offer.

There is also a library of wildlife books in the washroom that you are very welcome to borrow to assist you with wildflower, bird, insect and mammal identification if that is something that interests you. There is an OS Map of the local area in the Caban which will help you plan your walks.

Atención a los huéspedes

Fingle Caban is in a very private and secluded spot within Clifford Barton's 50 acres of private nature reserve. However it is just a 4 min walk up a leafy private track from the main farm complex, comprising the main historic farmhouse Clifford Barton where we live and 3 low-key holiday rentals, converted former farm cottages. Guests can choose the level of interaction they desire, certainly if we're available - and if wanted we'll always endeavour to be, transporting bags etc to Fingle Caban on arrival and being shown around. But if guests would rather remain fully independent, gaining independent access and remaining secluded that's totally respected!

Stay here. Tranquillity, relaxing and a romantic setting. Cannot fault it even in the rain. Either enjoying the sunshine by the outside fire pit or cozying up by wood burner this place is perfect! Hosts are informative and left us to our own devices which was ideallic. We will be back!

Glad you enjoyed your stay. I always worry when the weather's wet about guests up in the Caban, but once the woodburner is on and if you have a good book it's probably the best place to be. Might go and do that myself now, given today's weather!

We had an amazing time at Fingle Caban. I've never stayed somewhere with such great views of beautiful valleys, sunsets with breathtaking colours and wildlife so close and abundant, but still have absolute privacy and not overlooked by anyone - it really is at the top of the hill! We borrowed the bikes they have for free to cycle up the valley and go swimming in the river, played pool and table football in the games room, had warming fires in the evening listening to the owls calling, after rowing around their private lake. Can't even list all the wildlife we saw - I didn't know it was still possible to find a place like this these days! The host and their family were so generous and friendly although very unintrusive so the Caban/hill was completely ours with no visitors. Alasdair who runs the woodworking courses on-site was one of the most welcoming and modest people I've met in a very long time - highly recommend his passion for local/Devon woods.

Thanks so much for your lovely review Jonathan. Really glad you made the most of the bikes and all the local wildlife spots, proving you don't need to have a car to have a great time. Alastair's woodworking courses are up and running now so if you fancy coming back to make a chair or table using traditional green woodworking techniques it would be lovely to see you and Leo again.

Very pleasant stay in a Very peaceful and secluded location. Good nights sleep. Good for walking and cycling along river. Vicki was very helpful. The room was warm with the wood burner. The path from carparking might be challenging in very wet weather.

The Caban itself blew us away, so well constructed and well thought out in the use of space. The kitchen area was easy to use with utensils pans etc all there for you and well sheltered! (We had a lot of rain) The composting toilet was in a cute little cabin of its own, well thought out and hygienic with a little mirror and window to watch the world. The log burner was a delight keeping the Caban cosy throughout the night. We loved the little finishes in the Caban and the feel of being out in the countryside. The walk to the shower room and fridge was short and pretty in itself, certainly not an issue. I would highly recommend especially if you're looking for a romantic cabin getaway!

What a fantastic couple of nice nights. Vicki was a great host and easy to contact if needed, offering tips on what to do/where to go. The Caban was perfect for a scenic and secluded get away. Set in beautiful surroundings it acted as the perfect base from which to go exploring. We loved making use of the outside fire area for dinner and the log burner for the cooler evenings in the Caban. It was a great bonus to have use of the bikes with the Teign Valley on the doorstep with a great bike track. Fantastic swimming spots too. Fantastic stay overall and look forward to coming back! We have already recommended.

Myself, my husband Gavin and 3 kids live at Clifford Barton. We fell in love with the place in the summer of 2013, as a wonderful location to raise our family. Having renovated the 3 cottages to a high standard, we are delighted to invite others to come and enjoy the peace and qu…
