The scenery was amazing, and so was the house. I felt so close to nature during my time here, like it was a home away from home. I only wish I was able to stay for a bit longer. The people I met in the village were very welcoming, and I got to see a very different side to Indian life.

When we booked the cottage, we weren't sure what to expect but reading the reviews gave us so much confidence and rightly so! It is a beautifully simple and cosy cottage in a secluded area. Our trip was very last minute but our host, Sudhir, was kind enough to accommodate us and carefully walk us through the instructions to get there, checking in and even recommending a good place to eat on the way there! The road to the cottage can be a little difficult to drive on for beginners but we had a Honda Amaze and it was perfectly fine. Once we got there, the helper, Vishwanath took us up to a serene waterfall, where we spent a few hours just relaxing by the water. Vishwanath and his wife made us delicious meals (not spicy and super easy on the stomach) and were hospitable enough to let us see their home too. If you are inquisitive enough and/or speak the local language, there is much to be learnt from the people of Mala Village. If you want to go trekking up Kudremukh, you will need two clear days here, so make sure to plan accordingly. Overall, a great experience! Would recommend for anyone looking for some peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of city life & looking to reconnect with nature. Definitely coming back here.

This place provides you with three features that arent that easy to find in India: privacy, space and comfort. In addition you will have warm and welcoming hosts who support you in whatever regard is needed. This beautiful house is in midst of the nature, surrounded by trees, plants and in walking distance to a waterfall, butterflies, birds and other animals complete the nature lovery paradise. In the house you have a spacious kitchen and entry area, a living room, a big bedroom with a very comfortable mattress, and a bathroom with hot water. Big plus in the house are the many details, high ceilings, natural materials and the light and professional design of floor, walls and furnitures, all together create a lighty and warm atmosphere. Outside the house are several private seating areas which we used for Yoga, reading and generally for relaxing. All together a wonderful stay which we even extended for one more night, and we defined will come back:)

This is one of the best stay experience I have had. Firstly, it's beautifully surrounded by nature and people who visit this place must keep it in mind to get some learning if possible and not to ruin or disturb the balance of nature.. Those who love nature will not regret staying here.. Secondly the hosts and their management is excellent considering the location of this place.. Food cooked is fresh, served hot and tastes yummy..

In every way, Mala exceeded my expectations. It is secluded but completely safe. The village borders the forest but surprisingly, there were no creepy-crawlies :-) Instead, there were huge butterflies - the biggest I have ever seen! The cottage was very clean and it has everything you need. The water source is a spring within the forest and a short trek takes you to a pretty waterfall with a rock pool at its base - it was cold!! Most of all, the Ghate family and the caretakers at the cottage are very warm and welcoming - I can't emphasise enough what a difference that makes !! We still remember those piping hot Mangalore buns. The food was just vegetarian, and delicious. Mrs Ghate and her brother took us on a nice ramble in the forest and to her ancestral home - they are great company. The houses in Mala are all set in towering betel plantations. The people speak a charming combination of Marathi, Kannada and Konkani. The road through the village is untarred but easily motorable. If you love nature, enjoy a forest, good food and meeting good people, do spend a day or two at Mala. It was a beautiful experience, and a high point of our trip. You can also visit the Kudremukh forest while you're there.

The visit was very refreshing and lots of nice places within couple of hours from the property. The food was awesome and possibly best you can have outside, more so if you like traditional south Indian food. The hosts were very pleasant, taking care of your needs and constantly enquiring if you need assistance. They were more than happy to escort us to be property everytime from the nearest public road. Last couple of kilometers of the approach road is rough and cars with high ground clearance should be fine. We drove in a jazz and could manage it with challenges in few spots.
