We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in the Sjaopesjtal. Knowing there would only be a kitchenette with a hot pot, we made sure the foods we brought could be eaten cold or by adding hot water. We never eat out at home, so the decision to eat our dinners out was a bit unusual but worked out well and gave us a chance to sample some of the local eateries.
Suzanne and her husband were very helpful and friendly. The environment surrounding the Sjaopesjtal is very relaxing and peaceful, and despite being right in the hosts' backyard, it was very private.
There was a rustic interior, with partial walls purposely left unfinished so you could see what it looked like as a sheep stall - it gave it a very special, comforting feeling. The outside deck was a welcome addition and fairly spacious.
At the time of booking, we had some concerns about the shower being outside, but it was no big deal, and it was actually very nice, roomy, and easy to use.
Plenty of room to park your car, and we also rented scooters* during our stay, which they allowed us to park in their back yard.
My husband very much appreciated having real filtered coffee, made in a drip coffee maker.
Suzanne provided maps for walking trails in the area and a string of brochures from local eateries.
Just as a side note - we had originally planned to only stay in Maastricht for one night, but due to the pictures Suzanne had posted in this listing, we fell in love with the surrounding area and chose to extend our stay by several nights.
*by the way - scooters are THE way to see the Zuid-Limburg countryside - you get to use the bike paths all around the area and you (mostly) avoid the heavy (and narrow) traffic.
