My family and I spent three nights at Nilla and absolutely loved our our stay. I would absolutely highly recommend the place to anyone, and go so far to say that it is A MUST for anyone wanting an authentic Sri Lankan culinary experience in an idyllic, tranquil setting : Nila is a fully equipped home, with all the requirements any family or group will require for a break away from the usual beach tourist traps of Sri Lanka. It is set in the middle of a paddy field (so well secluded that if you don’t know what you are looking for you may miss it!) The house is beautifully and thoughtfully designed to maintain the original set up of the house while subtly incorporating modern conveniences (meticulous attention to detail such as an antique iron sitting decoratively next to it’s modern counterpart in the master bedroom.) Similarly, there is the modern pantry inside the house but the main, traditional Sri Lankan kitchen outside the house. Premalatha, the exceptional cook and housekeeper, cooked all our meals from scratch on wood burning fire in clay pots- If you want to truly authentic, traditional Sri Lankan cuisine this is the place to come -Even the rice we ate came from the owner’s own paddy field! (I’m originally from Sri Lanka so I can guarantee finding truly authentic cuisine is not as easy to find as it sounds due to the labour intensiveness -scraping coconuts and extracting fresh milk for every meal and the fact that most homes no longer have an outdoor kitchen.) The open air court yard and koi pond with the sound of the waterfall in the middle of the house further added to the ambiance and the feeling of being one with nature. Thank you to you and your family for an unforgettable stay- we will definitely be coming back, especially Premalatha’s cooking!

The villa is in a scenic location, tastefully decorated and well looked after by the 2 local staff. It is comfortable, quiet and the setting in the rice fields is scenic and unique. The breakfast and dinner can be ordered through the staff and is tasty and plentiful. Obviously it will be local food but the spice level has been adjusted for foreign tongues. We wanted to try the seafood in Weligama and took the drive there in the evening. It will take at least 30 mins both ways and the roads are quite windy and we had dogs and buffaloes on the road both ways so take extra care. There is a resident peacock and although he is cute to watch he gets irritated with his mirror image in the chrome grill or lights of the car and will start pecking away on it. Best to put a box in front of any mirrory bits if you don't want them to be taken off. The only downside was that the description in the listing is incorrect. The villa is not rented on a whole house basis and the owner advises that only 2 of the 4 bedrooms are included. The others are rented separately. We had to make adjustments to our trip and it would be good to get this fixed to avoid future confusion.

Гостеприимство хозяина было на высоте...если бы ещё не мой хреновенький Английский! Далековато до океана(13км) и соотвественно дороговато быстро и комфортно добираться каждый день.

We had the most beautiful experience from arrival to departure. The hospitality we were offered is fast disappearing elsewhere and it was refreshing to find it again in SL. We were pampered throughout and well taken care of. We just had to ask for something and it was provided. The food was excellent, most of it fresh from the garden cooked in a mud kitchen. Loved the smokey flavours of all the food we were offered. Huge thanks to Thara's mum, Thara and Heshini for making our stay so lovely. We will definitely return.
