Fern hill is tucked between a quiet lake and a mixed pine/hardwood forest, with a gurgling stream running below the house. Beebe is a small, peaceful lake north of Lake Bomoseen. The original cabin was converted to a spacious chalet cottage in the 60's with porch, grill, private dock for swimming/boating and villages/trails nearby.

El lugar

Fern Hill is located on an acre of forested land. Beebe Lake is small, quiet and pristine. Only electric motors are allowed on the lake, with a speed limit of 5 miles per hour (no water skiing). Swimming and fishing are excellent. Bird feeders are set up in the front of the cottage for those who enjoy bird watching, and humming birds frequent the front porch. From the back of the cottage you can follow a path up to a historic wooden water tower which is now a small studio and a great place to read or meditate. There are numerous hiking trails nearby and quaint villages to visit.

What an enjoyable stay we had at Fern Hill. Barb welcomed us upon our arrival and showed us the ropes; she also left us a healthy breakfast for our first morning which included fresh blueberries that she had picked. Wildflower arrangements were placed throughout the cottage from flowers found on the property. It provided a personal touch that I appreciated very much. The front deck of the cottage offered a lovely place to sit and enjoy our morning coffee before the children woke up. In one direction, you could watch the sunlight glinting off the water, and in the other is a hill covered with beautiful ferns and lush green trees. There was a variety of wildlife to hear and see, the crying of a loon greeted us early one morning and an owl hooting late into the night. There were frogs in the babbling brook, many varieties of birds feeding from the feeders, hummingbirds flitting to and fro, a snake sighting and yes, this is in the woods, so there might be an occasional field mouse too. The kids had a blast paddling around the lake, swimming with some children they met next door and jumping off the dock. The temperature of the water was perfect for swimming. We didn't plan for fishing on this excursion, but we watched the children next door catch fish after fish. A majority of our day was spent on the lake and the evenings were spent playing games in the cottage or around the fire pit down by the brook (be sure to bring mosquito repellent for the evenings/early mornings). The cabin was charming and rustic, the appliances were older but all in working order. The bed that we slept in was quite comfortable too. The sheets were new and crisp and the kitchen generally had everything we needed. I look forward to staying at Fern Hill again one day soon.

Thankyou, Kim for your wonderful, descriptive review. I hadn't thought about including fishing in my cottage description, but a few of our guests this summer were very keen and the lake is full of bass, pike, and panfish. I will look forward to your return soon!

Fern Hill was a great find. Originally I selected it because it was convenient to Brandon where I had some business during the week. But the place was perfect. Lake Beebe is a quiet, beautiful place, and we spent a lot of time in the water. The fish do like to nip a bit, so it is better to be swimming than floating if that bothers you. The house is well appointed, and the bedrooms have been equipped with lots of places to hang towels and clothes, making it very vacationer friendly. There is ample common space for games or puzzles or dinner around the table. Barb was great, clearly answering all my questions and giving me a quick tour of the place ahead of time. She checked in during the week by phone to make sure we were happ, and made he expectations regarding check in and check out very clear. We had beautiful weather all week, and the place was trouble free. Thanks, Barb, for creating such a nice experience for us!

Fern Hill is a great place to stay if you want a secluded, relaxing place in the woods to get away from it all. We loved the access to the lake and use of a canoe and kayaks for paddling and fishing. The cottage itself was very unique with lots of different rooms, including a sun room where you can watch the lake and birds outside while eating a meal, and it had everything we needed for a few days. Barb is a great host who made sure we had good directions to get to the cottage and were well prepared with breakfast items when we got there. We had a great stay and hope to go back again!

We had a great stay at Fern Hill. The lake is by far the best part of this cottage - it is perfect for a swim on a summer day. The cabin is cozy and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. We loved that there was also access to the private dock, raft, kayak, and canoe. Barb was also very sweet to provide food for breakfast the next day. Check in was easy and Barb gave us a full tour of the property. We had a beautiful weekend stay and really enjoyed the cottage!

We had a wonderful and relaxing time at Fern Hill. Barbara met us at the cottage and was very warm and helpful, making sure we were set for our weekend in every way. The cottage is clearly a special place, brimming with charm and memories. Our group consisted of two couples, all of us working on songwriting and demos, and the cottage was spacious enough that we could spread out and have privacy and then come together for communal meals on the porch. The cottage has all the amenities you would ever want while still being immersed in lush green forest with a babbling brook just outside. The lake, which is just across the road, is clean and swimmable with a beautiful view of forest-covered mountains and a cool swimming raft. I had a nice time canoeing as well. I would highly recommend Fern Hill for a classic Green Mountain State cottage experience.

My friends and I had a fantastic time at Fern Hill. We we looking for an escape from Manhattan and this was a perfect choice. Her pictures are extremely accurate, and you can just tell her home is loved... each room is warm and welcoming with a ton of character and charm. Barb was extremely considerate making sure we had everything we needed. She showed us around upon arrival and left us notes and directions, as well as some some breakfast items. We had all the essentials to relax, cook, and explore. The house in wrapped up in tons of greenery with lots of birds and a brook near by. Barb also has a small boat dock and lent us her kayak/ canoe, we had a wonderful time swimming and boating around the smaller lake by her home. The water was clean and a wonderful temperature. At night we cozied up by the wood stove. My only note is that you are submerged in nature and it can be a bit buggy. We felt very welcome during our stay, and left feeling recharged. I highly recommend visiting Fern Hill for a fun filled break from life.

In Vermont, and perhaps the Northeast woods in general, the time between Mother's Day and Father's Day is the heaviest bug season. They decrease as the summer proceeds and by fall there are very few. {Perhaps I should have left out our net hats!) Sorry - the bugs are beyond my control but I have always found the beauty and relaxation a good antidote!

I am a retired teacher who enjoys volunteering, traveling and the out-of-doors. Fern Hill has been in my family for most of my adult life and I find I am looking forward to sharing it with others of like mind. Caring for the natural world and finding joy in the simple things in life are very important to me. The beauty of Fern Hill and most of Vermont keep my spirits high.
