El alojamiento
The house lies between the village greens of St Helens and the harbour; is about a 5 minute walk from both and the beach is about a 5 minute walk from the harbour.

St Helens is the second most easterly coastal village on the Island and sandy beaches run round the coast from Shanklin to Ryde, the nearest town to the house. Ryde is also the foot passenger terminal from Portsmouth, a 20 minute crossing and the nearest car ferry terminal, Fishboure, is a 20 minute drive away.

If the calendar says that the house is not available, please check with me because it may mean that it is just me there & two rooms would be available.
The house is a new build in the New England style. It has gardens at the front and the back and one or other has the sun until the early evening. Both have lawns; the back is secluded and is accessed by French windows from the kitchen, which leads into a small patio with table, chairs, sunshade for outdoor eating and has a latched gate that smaller children cannot undo. The front garden also has parking for 3 cars, or 1 car and a boat, provided it is not the size of the Titanic!

There are 3 bedrooms, one with a king sized bed, one with twin beds and one a single. There is a bathroom upstairs with a WC, bath, shower attachment and wash basin and another downstairs, with a wash basin, WC and shower. There is also an outside shower for muddy/sandy dogs/children/swimmers/kite surfers.

The kitchen is fully fitted including a washing machine and dishwasher and the house has central heating and a thermastatic contol, so can be set as hot or as cold as you like and can be pre-programmed. The downstairs is open plan (apart from the bathroom, obviously) with a kitchen/dinner leading into the sitting room, which has all the usual culprits, TV (1000s of channels) & WiFi.

The house is set back from the road linking St Helens to the next nearest village, Bembridge and has bus stops a couple of minutes walk away towards Bembridge, Sandown, Shanklin & Ventor in one direction & Ryde in the other. The local beach is called the Duver and is reached from the harbour via a raised footpath called the Causeway. The beach is sandy and safe, but I never took my eyes off my children when they were in the sea. There is a beach shop and cafe/restaurant on the beach and also public toilets, but at the other end of the Duver from the bit nearest the house, which is less peopled than the other end because the access is not as well known.

Station Road is 100% residential, but there is a post office/ small village shop for essentials within walking distance, up on the Village Green (Upper Green Road) a restaurant-Gangers and a pub. There is another restaurants and a book shop on the other side of the Green (Lower Green Road). There is also a health center and more public toilets on the Green, plus cricket nets & a playground. Cricket & football are played on the Green and also the annual sports (for all ages), the annual fayre and a weekly car boot sale is held on the other green. If that makes you feel tired, give the sportsmen your full moral support from the pub overlooking the the Green & it's downhill all the way home.

The sea used to go all the way to Brading & St Helens was a thriving port, but when the railway was built across to Bembridge, this resulted in the demise of the port, the birth of Bembridge harbour and some stunning marshlands and unique wildlife between the embankment and Brading. Lots of geese too, that's St Helen's emblem.

I am from the Isle of Wight. I love the sea; swinmming, diving, hearing it; gardening and cooking. Brief I know, but as the whole house is being let, we will only pass as ships in the night!
