El lugar

The little town of Underberg has many stunning attractions to see while holidaying in the area, such as the Coleford Nature Reserve, Tugela Falls, amazing hikes to and the outstanding Mashai Pass and Rhino Peak.

Known for its trout fishing, the southern Drakensberg boasts more fly-fishing opportunities than anywhere else in South Africa, with 60 dams and over 160km of river available. The Underberg is also a beautiful place to go horse riding, hiking and swimming. In summer months, canoeists visit the area to paddle in the rivers from the uMkomazi to the uMzimkulu. Near to Underberg lies the town of Himeville which has a very good museum for those wanting to learn more about the history of the area.
Underberg is a popular base for those wanting to explore the Sani Pass and a section of Lesotho. Organised tour operators take visitors up the pass in 4X4 vehicles. The drive is exhilarating especially the last 8km where you climb over 1000m. Passports are needed as you exit South Africa and enter Lesotho. Self drives are allowed but are not recommended as the road is very steep and there are a few areas where advanced driving skills and knowledge of the road come in handy.

Our family loved everything about the tee pee camp, our children didn't want to leave! They loved the floating dock and spent most of their time on it! The kitchen was perfectly stocked with everything we needed. The tee pee itself was comfortable and we got a good night's sleep! We would highly recommend it to any other adventurous families that want a great family memory!

There was a group of 11 which was compiled of seven adults and 4 kids. The smallest teepee was really only suitable for teenagers or kids and not two adults, however we managed. We had a similar experience with booking that another reviewer had in terms of we thought we had booked the entire camp when it turned out it was one teepee .. However the problem was highlighted prior to arriving and only resolved between the host and myself - air B and B support was rubbish. The setting is amazing, the fire in the middle of the camp is amazing, the hosts checked on several occasions if we were ok, the staff member who cleared up did an excellent job, the gas heaters at an additional cost were provided but to be fair you couldn't sleep in the tent and have it on for fumes! If you have a great group of friends and/or family this is a unique getaway and I would recommend

What should have been an awesome weekend was somewhat disappointing and stressful. Website booking indicated a set price for ENTIRE camp and confirmation sent confirming 14 guests for weekend for ENTIRE camp. Upon arrival, after an 8 1/2 trip Dale informed us that she was aware that it was confirmed that 14 guests and ENTIRE camp were booked out but that this was an mistake that she was aware of already the day before (yet hadn't contacted us once to clarify) and that she had booked out one of the four tents to another couple. With the remainder of our family still to arrive it was somewhat disappointing and concerning as we then had to do some shuffling into the remaining three tents. The next morning Dale informed us that she had booked out yet ANOTHER tent and expected us to shuffle around into two tents. She was somewhat surprised that we were not willing to 'compromise' yet again. It was then that I refused as we had booked what we were under the impression was the ENTIRE camp and I would not have done the trip with a party of ten including six kids had I known we would share with others. A few things need to be noted...although the website indicates there are tents that sleep five it is a queen size bed, two single matresses that are laid on the concrete floor and a couch that is no way a sleeper couch. It is a lounge couch that cannot be slept on unless you are maximum two years old. So shuffling meant I slept on the floor. Another shuffle would have meant six of us on the floor. Bathrooms are fine except no doors only curtains. Not ideal when sharing with strangers especially with young kids in the camp. The close proximity of the tents (two if which are about 2 metres apart only) means every cough, sound, footstep can be heard which is fine if familiar family members or friends booking out entire camp but again not ideal when strangers are mixed with your kids. To Dales credit she did cancel the two other booking once I insisted the experience for us was not as we had expected and that it would not be a good experience for the new guests considering the amount for people in our party already. It must be understood that we were sent a confirmation stating we had the entire camp, and that if there was a fault of any sort it should not have been expected of us to compromise more and more. It seemed she was accepting bookings to make up for her loss, to our detriment, and we were clearly expected to downsize more and more as booking were requested and Dale confirmed. I reiterate this is an ideal setting should the entire camp be booked out only.

Two tents were booked prior to your booking on another site where the info read per teepee. I did not accept any bookings during your stay I tried to communicate this to you on Saturday am but i couldnt get a word in. I had to cancel the booking for 2 tents resulting in a huge loss for me over that weekend. I had corrected it on this site prior to your check in. I would like to see any camp ground with facilities where 14 people can stay for 2 nights at R1800 it means it cost R64 per person per night, I dont think you can get this price even when you pitch your own tent and share ablutions with a whole camp ground. By the time i paid commission, maid, gas and electricity it didnt leave much of a profit.
