Coyote Ridge Lodge is a rustic, secluded, peaceful cabin and bunkhouse, nestled on 10 sunny acres of oak, aspen and pine forest halfway between Spearfish and Deadwood. Includes spacious deck, large grassy meadow and picnic area beside a spring creek.

El lugar

This is not your typical modern vacation home. The naturally weathered cabin was hand built in the 1970's using locally harvested rough lumber, homemade windows and one-of-a-kind walnut flooring. The main house has all the comforts of home: sleeps 6 with an upstairs loft with queen bed plus an open-design downstairs sleeping/TV room with a queen bed and futon (this room is a common space and has limited privacy; see "back bedroom" photos).
The “bunkhouse," a small cabin just steps from the main house, has two sleeping rooms with a full-size futon bed downstairs and bunk bed (2 twins) upstairs. The bunkhouse has no bathroom but it's only 20 feet to the half bath in the big house.
The great room in the big house has a fully equipped corner kitchen and large bay windows for beautiful, wide-angle views of the woods and the canyon. The dining table expands to seat ten and guests can enjoy outdoor meals on the spacious deck.
The cabin sits on a sunny, south-facing, wooded hillside at the end of a quarter-mile gravel driveway. There's not another house in sight. But you are likely to see deer, turkey and other wildlife, and coyotes often sing their wild, unforgettable song on the ridge at night.

Disponible para huéspedes

Guests have access to the entire main house, the bunkhouse, and ten acres of oak, aspen and ponderosa pine woods. Property also includes a large grassy meadow and a picnic table beside the creek (seasonal; the creek usually dries up in August).

Atención a los huéspedes

Owner lives off site, but is always available by phone or email. Friendly caretakers also live nearby.

Otros aspectos destacables

Coyote Ridge Lodge is nestled in beautiful Maitland canyon, which unfortunately interferes with internet wireless signals. Cell phone service is good (we have a signal booster) but with occasional interruptions. There is a land-line phone and cable TV. Several coffee shops in town offer fast, free wireless connections.
The cabin has an "open" design. There are no bedrooms with doors, although the loft and the bunkhouse rooms are relatively private. Multiple families or groups wanting privacy should look at the bedroom photos carefully.
The spring creek usually (not always) dries up in July.

This secluded lodge was just what our family needed after a week and a half on the road. Enjoying a nice cup of joe on the front balcony was the perfect way to relax and rejuvenate. Our 4 young kids, loved exploring the bunk house and outdoors. Al is a great host, he offers great tips and local information about the area. Spearfish itself is a beautifully manicured town, so much to explore in the area.

This place is very quiet, woodsy, beautiful scenic route to the house. If you're looking for a house that's in the woods this is the place you may even see some deer we did while we were having coffee on the balcony. I would definitely come back to this house. Marie Lowe

My family and I had a great time staying at Al's cabin and bunkhouse. The cabin is gorgeous--from the natural wood siding to the open and sunny interior. Very clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the appliances we needed to cook meals, which saved us a lot of money compared to eating out. There also is a washer and dryer, which was really convenient. The cabin is located at the end of the road in a very quiet and peaceful wooded location with a great view. We loved sitting out on the deck in the morning and evenings to drink coffee, eat and talk. The location is great with plenty to do nearby. We enjoyed trips to Spearfish Canyon, Deadwood and spent some time in the city of Spearfish itself (which has great coffee shops and all of the conveniences of a good-sized town). We also took day trips to Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park and Wind Cave. We'd definitely stay here again!

Great place for a week away. Al was great in all his communication and explained everything well. Great setting, close to town but completely secluded and private. Loved the bunkhouse, that was well worth adding. The kids played over there while the adults enjoyed the main house. Would definitely stay again.

This was great find tucked in the Black Hills! Having a deck to hang out on was super. Would recommend this cabin anytime. The host did a great job with information on the cabin and the area. There is plenty to do in the area and this cabin provides a great place to relax and refuel.

I'm a college professor (study mass media) at the University of Wisconsin. Love outdoor sports. Built Coyote Ridge Lodge in the 1970s when I lived in Spearfish for 6 years (I taught journalism at Black Hills State). Have spent about 7 years of my life living and traveling overseas, mainly in SEAsia and Europe. Have three great kids, a dog and cat.
