Nestled beside the Kuringai Chase National Park and accessible only by water, 'Cudgegong' is a 3 bedroom house overlooking the sheltered bay of Coasters Retreat on Pittwater, facing The Basin. Wallabies, goannas and brush turkeys forage peacefully on the lawn below the verandah in this very quiet community. Go swimming, bushwalking, fishing or simply relax on the verandah by day and enjoy the open fire by night. Sleep peacefully on brand new mattresses.
At Cudgegong there are neighbours either side if you need help, but it's a very quite, chilled-out community. Behind the house is a hillside that leads to the Kuringai-Chase National Park. Sheoaks predominate, but if you climb the hill for 10 minutes to the lookout you will find an angophera forest with many wildflowers, especially in spring. Walking tracks to Towlers Bay and other places branch off from the road to West Head, about 40 minutes walk away.
Coasters Retreat faces the popular National Parks campground at the Basin, which is busy in holiday times, and Currawong, the NSW government historic holiday camp, a little further away. The feeling is of a bushy enclave with the water providing a spacious outlook, especially from Bennetts Wharf below which offers view across to Barrenjoey Head with its famous lighthouse.
The wharf is good for jumping off and fishing. Right next to the wharf is pretty netted beach good for toddlers and getting wet. Further along, past Bonnie Doon, is the corner beach, sandy and flat for good safe swimming and just a little further along around the rocks is The Basin - a large deep netted sea pool surrounded by bush. It's a little tricky getting in across oyster-strewn rocks, but worth it. The other option if you have little kids is to take the ferry around two stops and get off at The Basin, where there is a lot of sandy beach that slopes gently into the water and an excellent picnic area complete with wallabies and elecrtric barbeques.

Otros aspectos destacables
Coasters Retreat is a magical place in may ways - partly because it's off the grid. There is no wifi at the house, but Telstra gets reception through 4G, and others carriers can access it from the front lawn.
There is a travel cot for a baby or toddler that can be made up on request.
No pets of any kind are allowed, as it is a National Park. No smoking inside. No partying.
On departure, please don't bother to strip the beds - our housekeeper takes care of that. Bring furniture in off the verandah, except the dining setting and little sofa that live on the verandah. Please wash up and put away your dishes and so on, and clean the grill if you used it. Thanks for your help - Madeline
