With free WiFi, smart TV & desk the Beach House works equally well for a family holiday, working away from home or a writers retreat.

El alojamiento
Welcome to the Bay of Fires coast renowned for its white powder-soft sand, orange lichen-covered rocks & turquoise water. St Helens is a quaint fishing village set on the beautiful Georges Bay with the Bay of Fires beaches stretching to the north and St Helens Point, home of the giant Peron Dunes and Beer Barrel Beach flanking the bay to the south.
Our beach retreat is perched on the gum-covered ridge above the bay with stunning water views, dramatic skyscapes and sunsets and complete privacy. The land stretches down to the bayside beach with no houses to impede your view. Birdlife is abundant in the native garden and the pelicans oblige with regular fly pasts. Kookaburras are likely to greet you on arrival and blue wrens abound.

The house is furnished with an eclectic blend of furniture collected over 40 years of living in Tasmania. Paintings and woodcuts from the owners' private collection along with Pacific Island and African basketwear rub shoulders with retro furnishings which have been jealously guarded by the beach house since it was built in the 1950's.

Polished boards, louvred windows and expansive decks at the front and rear of the house add to the beach house feel. The only shells you'll find are real ones from nearby beaches - no 'seaside kitsch' from the local bric-a-brac shop!

The spacious sunroom doubles as a dining area with seating for 6 around the locally-made macrocarpa table. The daybed in the corner is the perfect reading and napping spot. A desk, bookcase, and BOSE sound system, eclectic cd collection and drawer full of games and puzzles complete the holiday mood (or workspace with a view!).

The living room is open-plan with the kitchen and has comfortable leather sofas in front of the open log fire. Sliding doors lead onto the deck facing the bay view.

The well equipped kitchen includes an oven, microwave and fridge and has a colourful array of serving bowls, quality glassware, crockery and cutlery. Perch on the counter stools for breakfast or curl up in the leather sofas and watch a movie - the owners run a film festival so the DVD rack is buckling under the weight of titles.

The bathroom has a shower, basin, flush toilet and heated towel rail and there is a separate laundry with washing machine and dryer

Both the front and rear decks have tables, chairs, deck chairs, sun umbrellas and a gas BBQ. A hammock, garden seats, fire pit and established lawns extend the outdoor living options.

The home comfortably sleeps 5 in two bedrooms with all linen provided. The carpeted queen bedroom looks out through the sunroom to the bay views and has a corner wardrobe and dressing table. The second bedroom has both a double and single bed and built-in wardrobe. Both bedrooms have quality linen, electric heaters, blinds, curtains and bedside lamps bright enough to read by.

Boogie boards, beach bats, beach towels, a sun umbrella and other paraphernalia for a a day at the beach are all provided.

The house has off street parking for two cars and the front garden is fenced and dog secure.

Acceso para huéspedes
The rate advertised for two people is for the use of one bedroom. The other bedroom will be locked. If you need two bedrooms for two people please let us know. There may be a nominal extra laundry charge for the use of the second bed.

The Beach House has a lockable shed if you wish to store bikes etc safely while you are staying. There's a retractable hose near your parking spots if you need to wash down your bikes or car. The property has a gate which can be closed in the evening if desired.

Otros aspectos destacables

Binalong Bay, the gateway to the Bay of Fires, is short drive north of the Beach House and the new St Helens MTB Mountain Bike Trails are right on your doorstep.

Just 5 minutes down St Helens Point Road lie the surfing beaches: Beer Barrel and Maurouard. Grab the boogie boards, towels and some wetsuits (all provided) and jump in the ocean! Or wander over the red lichen covered rocks towards the towering Peron sand-dunes. This untouched part of the coastline is much as the French explorers found it in the 1700s. Thank you François Péron!

If you're looking for a sheltered spot to set up for a day on the sand, head beyond the turn off to the beaches on St Helens Point Road and find the peaceful Burns Bay. There's a collection of secluded bays to explore with beautiful boulders.

My husband Owen and I have lived and worked in Tasmania since the late 1970's. We discovered this beautiful island on what was meant to be a short stopover. We have travelled widely over the years but right now we are very happy to enjoy and explore more of Tasmania. We live in Launceston and have two adult daughters and two grand children. We all gather at the Beach House at Christmas and love to meet up there in winter too. Ten years ago we started the annual Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival (BOFA) which is held in May. The Beach House is very much part of our lives and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Durante tu estancia
Check in is contactless but our manager, lives nearby and I am just a phone call away in Launceston. We visit St Helens on a regular basis so feel free to ask us about local shops, restaurants and the best fishing and swimming spots. If we don't know the answer, we're bound to know a local who does.
