I absolutely LOVED my stay at "Les Arcades" and highly recommend this place for anyone who enjoys nature & is looking for a little tranquility from the hustle and bustle of Jaco. I stayed here for about a month and enjoyed every minute of it. A few helpful notes:
1. LOCATION - While the apartment is technically located in Jaco, it is not located in the main area of Jaco, but rather about 5KM outside of Jaco proper in the sleepy, surfer beach "town" along Playa Hermosa. This was PERFECT for me, as I rented a scooter that I took to/from Jaco daily and enjoyed the quiet nights in Playa Hermosa, taking in breathtaking sunsets & falling asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach below. This is a BEAUTIFUL (hence the name) volcanic sand beach, but be mindful of the tides when swimming here as there are dangerous and powerful currents. You'll also enjoy regular surf competitions on the weekend here as the surf is more advanced than Playa Jaco. It was easy to get a cab to Jaco for an occasional night out, but a little pricey. The restaurants nearby will help with this in a crunch, but they usually arrange the ride themselves or for their friends to make a few extra bucks and are often about $13USD vs $8-$10USD for an "official" cab ride. So, if you are looking for frequent nightlife, major grocery stores and dozens of restaurant choices- all right at your doorstep, this may not be a perfect fit for you.
TIP: I had a bit of a tricky time finding the place at first as I found that most people were not familiar with the apartment complex name (Les Arcades), but they do know Playa Hermosa! The apartments are located right off the main highway (Costanera) and the driveway up to the complex is almost immediately across the street (on the left) between Hotel Vista Hermosa and The Backyard Bar. Use these as your landmarks as they are well known locations.
2. NATURE - This is a place for nature lovers. If you're lucky, you'll see all types of birds, including Scarlet Macaws as well as mischievous monkeys in the trees nearby- but of course, you will also see ample spiders, geckos, insects and potentially scorpions. This is place that respects nature- and that includes all it's creatures, not just the cute & fuzzy ones!
3. JUAN & SERGE - These guys are great! Serge was on holiday during my stay so we did not meet, but he was very responsive on email the entire time, esp. considering the time difference. Juan maintains the place in his absence and he speaks no English- which was great for me since this gave us an opportunity for me to practice my poor Spanish! He is extremely helpful, kind & patient, he maintains the grounds beautifully, & he even picked fresh mangos and coconuts from the trees for me!
I definitely recommend!
