El lago de Como (o Lago di Como en italiano) lleva cientos de años siendo un imán para aristócratas, artistas y otros visitantes adinerados de toda Europa. Hoy en día, la zona mantiene un ambiente glamuroso y es conocida por sus habitantes famosos, como George Clooney, Madonna y Sylvester Stallone, además de por haber sido el escenario de incontables películas, como Casino Royale de la saga de James Bond.

Situado en la región italiana de Lombardía a los pies de los Alpes, este lago con forma de Y, ocupa 145 km cuadrados, lo que le convierte en el tercero más grande de Italia. Se puede llegar fácilmente a la zona en coche o en tren, y Milán está a poco más de 80 km, así que, si vienes de lejos, lo mejor es que vueles a uno de los aeropuertos milaneses o a la cercana ciudad de Bérgamo. Gracias al agradable microclima de la zona, hace bueno todo el año, aunque la mejor época para venir de visita va de abril a octubre. La ciudad más grande de las cercanas al lago es Como, pero no te puedes perder los pueblecitos más pequeños, como Bellagio, Varenna, Tremezzo o Lecco; son preciosos y tienen un encanto particular.

Te parecerá obvio, pero no hay mejor forma de conocer el lago de Como que desde el agua. El servicio de ferry, que funciona desde 1826, es la forma más sencilla para moverte entre los pueblos. Súbete, disfruta del paisaje y bájate cuando llegues a tu destino. ¡Así de simple! Visita Villa Carlotta

Entre las muchas villas que pueblan las orillas del lago de Como, Villa Carlotta es quizás la más espectacular. La construyó un adinerado senador milanés, Giorgio Clerici, a finales del siglo XVII en el pueblo de Tremezzo. Tiene fama por su colección de arte y muebles neoclásicos, así como por sus increíbles jardines botánicos. Con una superficie de 8 hectáreas, en el jardín han echado raíces árboles centenarios y palmeras, y los rododendros y las azaleas lo llenan de color. Para verla en su mejor momento, lo mejor es venir en primavera, para disfrutar de las flores en todo su esplendor.

Acércate a las montañas

Las montañas de los Alpes rodean el lago de Como y los picos repletos de nieve son un fondo envidiable que brinda a todo aquel que viene al lago la oportunidad de verlo desde una perspectiva diferente. Si prefieres ahorrar energía para luego darte un paseo por el pueblo, coge el funicular que une Como con el pintoresco Brunate, 487 metros más arriba. Desde allí, si caminas unos 30 minutos, llegarás al faro Voltiano, un faro en mitad de las montañas, desde donde podrás disfrutar de unas vistas impresionantes. Descubre Varenna

Alrededor del lago de Como hay un montón de pueblecitos que merece la pena visitar, pero el antiguo pueblo pesquero de Varenna destaca por su encanto especial. Situado en la orilla oriental del lago, en el lado opuesto de Menaggio y Tremezzo, y justo en frente de la península de Bellagio, Varenna ocupa uno de los rincones más bonitos de la zona. Con sus casas de colores y su romántico paseo a orillas del lago, si lo visitas te transportarás años atrás y podrás hacerte una idea de cómo era el lago antes de convertirse en el destino glamuroso que es hoy. Date una vuelta por el pueblo y no dejes de visitar los jardines de Villa Cipressi y Villa Monastero, así como el cercano castillo de Vezio, donde podrás llegar en coche o subiendo una buena cuesta. Sea como sea, merecerá la pena porque las vistas desde aquí son increíbles y, si tienes suerte, hasta podrás ver alguna exhibición de halcones.
