Qué harás

We’ll make a delicious, locally-sourced meal centering on Petaluma’s abundant local produce. I’ll teach you knife and cooking skills. Dishes may include broth, soup, unusual vegetables, grains, and seafood. You will learn knife skills such as the proper way to cut an onion. You will learn the "start-and-stop-and-start" method of preparing risotto so you can finish it in 10 minutes right before serving it.

You will have the opportunity to be hands-on with virtually all of these dishes, learning good technique by doing it once you see the proper way demonstrated to you. I will teach you some of my grandmother's recipe, taught to her by her husband, my grandfather, and then modernized just a bit by me to make it easier for cooks to do today.

We’ll have vegetables from the local farmer’s market and a simple yet delightful dessert to round out the meal. I’ll provide local Sonoma county wine (or non-alcoholic beverages instead, if you’d prefer). We’ll eat outdoors on our gazebo if weather permits, or indoors in a formal dining room if not.

If you book all four places for your group, we can customize the menu to the kinds of items you want to learn to cook, creating a 4-course menu for you to enjoy as well.
Other things to note
As this is a hands-on cooking class, please be sure to wear comfortable shoes for standing.

We have two small dogs who are quite friendly.

Petaluma is situated in lower Sonoma County, so we’ll have a bevy of fresh local products at our disposal (not to mention fantastic wine). We’ll use herbs from my personal backyard garden, as well as fruits and vegetables from local vendors and my offsite gardens.

Such a beautiful experience. Juli had a personalized menu and cooking instructions as well as take-away recipes ready for us. The table was set and everything was prepped ahead of time so we could go smoothly from one great cooking demonstration to another. Imagine coming into someone’s home and being taught to cook a wonderful meal by a professional chef! We got to tour her garden and pick the herbs and edible flowers we would use that night. She had such great food and took into account that I am diabetic. Hello spaghetti squash and kohlrabi! She paired local wines with each course and all the food was local. We stayed long after the time set for the event because we were talking and laughing so much. We didn’t just make a great dinner but some new friends. Thanks so much.

Juli and her husband were welcoming and friendly, and we all learned about new cooking techniques as well as enjoyed a delicious meal that sampled some of her treasured family recipes.

We absolutely loved our cooking class with Juli! She was incredibly organized and her extensive knowledge was immediately evident. The menu was tailored to our preferences and also introduced some new ingredients we'd never heard of before but will definitely be incorporating on our own later. We actively participated and learned so much along the way as Juli explained each step. She and Walt welcomed us into their home so warmly, and sharing a meal with the two of them to enjoy the final product was an extra personal touch that we really appreciated. The food was outstanding (and so were the wine pairings with each course!), we learned a TON, and Juli provided all of the recipes and instructions for us to recreate the experience on our own. We would definitely recommend the experience to friends and hope to come back for an entirely new menu sometime!

This was a great experience! Juli demonstrated the skills she was teaching us and then had us practice and gave helpful corrections! It was an enjoyable evening as we made our dinner under Juli's supervision and then sat down and enjoyed our creations! Highly recommend!!! Thanks Juli
