Qué harás

Join us for an exclusive evening of music & conversation at the USC Brain & Creativity Institute’s Cammilleri Hall. A curated range of musicians will play music selected for their specific neurological responses evoked in the brain. Simultaneously, brain images of a participant listening to the same music will project before you, taking you on a journey through the brain's responses to each piece. Afterward, distinguished researchers will discuss their current projects investigating the connection between music & the brain. Why does music elicit strong emotional response? How does learning to play an instrument help in children development? This event will illustrate these answers & more as we explore unique connections between music, neuroscience & human development.

Dr. Assal Habibi

I am a trained classical pianist and also a neuroscience researcher who have worked in this field for over 7 years. As a classically trained musician and a neuroscientist, I am excited to share our understanding of the relationship between brain and music. Why we like to listen to music? What parts of our brain are activated when we listen to music ? How does music training help with brain health?

Acerca de la organización

Beginning in 2012, in collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and their youth orchestra program (YOLA) and Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), USC's Brain & Creativity Institute has been investigating the effects of music training on childhood development in inner-city children. Results from the Institute's ongoing work will have important applications for future music education public policy.
