We'll meet at the Ringtail Ridge Natural Area trailhead (1814 Old Ranch Road 12, San Marcos, TX 78666). After a brief introduction to each other and a quick look at the trail map and a map of the Edwards Plateau/Aquifer, we will embark on our adventure, stopping along the way to greet our cousins and to learn about the fascinating natural world around us. In every season there is something to see- even in the dead of winter, there are luscious herbs to taste and smell, interesting insects to observe, birds to identify by call and by sight. There are symbiotic relationships to ponder and millions of years old fossils to find! There will be local history, native folklore and tradition... we will identify (and possibly harvest a small quantity of) edible and medicinal plants- we may even hug a tree or two!
Activity Guide to the City of San Marcos, for anyone visiting from out of town, and a small souvenir for everyone!
Do you feel at home in Nature? Find yourself craving Her company? Allow me to bring you together with her for two hours in the beautiful Texas Hill Country! I was born and raised in Texas, I am a trained biologist and experienced naturalist, a graduate of Texas State University, and a lover of the Edwards Plateau and underlying aquifer by the same name. It would be my honor to share with you the riches of this unique ecoregion. Allow me to host you on a hike through a hidden nature park called Ringtail Ridge where we will meet and learn about all of our relations, whether non-human animal, plant or fungal... And everything in between! You are sure to leave my company feeling more connected to the land and with a much more intimate knowledge of the Edwards Plateau and its inhabitants. I can'y wait to hike with you!

We will stop along the trail to learn about every edible, medicinal, rare, interesting or unique thing we see. Depending on the season, we may harvest some fresh herbs or some fruits to taste. We will talk about indigenous knowledge and the things plants know, too. We will discuss how the plants and micro organisms and fungi all communicate with one another and help one another (and us) to thrive.
