Every morning, before the sun is up; the light sensitive Neon street lamps of Calcutta go off just when there is enough light. We call this time the Magic hour, and what better way than to see a city when it's waking up. We hop on to the first tram of the day as the city enters the enchanting Magic Hour. The trams, which used to be the king of the roads, still rule the streets during the magic hour. Trudging through the sleepy 300 year locality of Calcutta in full throttle (Tram/Bong Speed), the next few hours are spent visiting some local hidden spots around the oldest part of the city. Before the bustling giant city wakes up we’d have used all the iconic transport modes of Calcutta, enjoyed sights that are just ignored in plain sight, had breakfast by a hidden hole in the wall with an extraordinary view, gossiped about Bengalis and Calcutta in general, learnt the meaning to “Adda” and lot more about being Bong. The “unguided tour” as we call it is wrapped up savoring Chai (tea) in a bhaad (earthen cups), the best sweets of Calcutta and finding our way through the winding streets back, to the place where we began (the tour we mean).Calcutta capsule for more reviews.

I'm an engineer who quit his corporate job out of love for photography and to return to his hometown Calcutta. Meeting new people and helping them fall in love with Calcutta has been my passion for the last two years. I am the founder of Calcutta Capsule walking tours (no#1 on trip Adv). I also co-host three Airbnb homes (Owl's Nest Calcutta) with my parents in one of the oldest parts of Calcutta. Raised in the historical alleyways of Calcutta, I’ll tell you stories about our city that have been passed down five generations of my family. You’ll step out of the guidebook and experience Calcutta like a local. For an unforgettable Calcutta experience join me on my Magic Hour, Calcutta Contrast or Alleyway Food walks. Or you can book our kite flying workshop or the secret rooftop Bengali homemade meal.
