*Fantastic Dublin you become informed about the history the architecture the hidden secrets and you feel the energy of the streets and it touches your heart.* REVIEW We will explore Dublin Homes through time and streets and understand what a home means now and then. A large part of Dublin is Georgian and we will view the Grandeur of these 1700's houses. This was a time when Dublin was wealthy and considered the second City of the old British Empire. The parliament closed in Dublin in January 1801 then these fine houses fell into decline and became tenements. We will move onto the 19th & 20th centuries and see what changed and why. Who tried to alleviate the hardship of the poor, or profit by it! A home for many people is an apartment block but in the past tenements housed whole families in one room and people went into the back garden to wash their hands, children and clothes. There were many ways of living, such as living over a shop, where families and their apprentices lived above and worked below. There is a public house which served as a guest house, a boarding house and early house for workers at the food markets. There were also safe houses for rebels on the run. And not to forget the monastic home for Monks to write amazing books like the Book of Kells and distil whiskey.

I have been a Tour Guide since 2010 beginning the journey at Castletown House a fine example of Palladian Mansion. Then onto Farmleigh House, a former Guinness Home and a fantastic, free place to visit beside the Phoenix Park. Then onto Áras an Uachtaráin, home of the President. I worked on Hop on Hop Off bus tours and out of town locations including Wicklow, Howth and Galway. It's been brilliant meeting people from all over the world and having the opportunity to tell everyone about my City. I have developed an interest and narrative about the dark ages and want to share this with you.

Dónde estarás

We will begin the tour on Henrietta Street one of the finest 1700's Streets to be constructed in Dublin and the first. We will then pass an old Jail and Courthouse. The building was used for Special Criminal Cases in the Troubles. It still hears trials and also houses film crews for costume drama. Then we will visit the purpose built Victorian food Markets. Onto the Ruins of an Abbey, the Viking and Medieval Core and onto present day Dublin....

Más consejos

This Tour is available as a private tour and would be a great present for friends or family. If it's cold we may stop for a hot drink in an early house, it can be cold summer or winter in Dublin!
