Qué harás

Because of Covid-19 we will be requiring hand washing upon entry, and you will be asked to wear a mask. We'll introduce ourselves and we will give you a tour of our professional studio and kiln area to have an insider's view of how pottery is made. Your instructor is an Atlanta ceramic artist, our studio is an incubator for those launching careers as instructors and as artists selling their work.

We'll have a short demonstration then a studio artist will guide you to make pots of your own. You will make 2-3 pots over the course of the next hour+ then you will get to select your own glaze colors for us to finish and fire your work. Unlike other experiences - there are no extra fees for extra pots!

Since pottery takes several weeks to dry, then proceeds with two firings - pottery that you make during your event will be ready in about 6 weeks. If you are picking up locally there is no further fee. Sometimes we can give an estimate for US shipping rates while you are here, international deliveries will require more exacting details for shipping rates and will require a follow-up email and/or invoice. Average US shipping is between $15 and $20.

This experience is kid friendly for ages 8+ but we do ask that you are booking in the morning slot if you have kids. No bookings will be accepted for kids with no adults present. Thank you!
Other things to note
Pottery will take about 6 weeks to dry, bisque fire, and glaze fire. We can provide a shipping quote via email once your work is fired so it can be shipped to you via USPS. Local pickup is free. Firing all pieces made is also included in our pricing.

I've been working with clay since 1999 in the retail ceramic supply industry and have owned our studio here since 2013. I co-own MudFire pottery studio in Decatur GA with my partner. I am a published author in the ceramic field and work on large scale commission and restaurant pottery projects. Our space is home to resident artists who are learning the craft of pottery and starting small businesses on their own - they will instruct your learning experiences. I just wrote my first book on the topic of ceramic glazes available on Amazon - Off the Shelf / Outside the Box. Our studio turned 20 this year :)

You will be working with instructors who are making and selling their work in galleries, trade-shows, art festivals, and online. Some are resident artists here in our studio full-time. Meredith and Niki are our two fabulous co-hosts!

A good way to learn something new! The studio is clean and a lot of artists have their art displayed. The experience was good! A good way to hangout and bond with friends! Definitely recommend!

Wonderful date night experience! Nikki was super friendly, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. A master of the craft, she creates wonderful pieces of functional work, with an air to the gentler side. A kind teacher, she was able to work the wobbles out of my clay and still make me feel good with a lopsided artifact — a flower vase, ahem. Do give them a try, date night or otherwise. Absolutely phenomenal!

My friend and I went to a class this morning and absolutely loved it. It doesn’t matter the skill set, it’s a very beginners friendly class or just a great one to take if you need a refresh course! We had 4 people total for our class and it felt personalized and gave us the attention we needed to make our pieces! Would go again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Mudfire. Our instructor was knowledgeable, personable, and ensured we had a phenomenal time. The introduction and tour felt a little longer than necessary not giving us as much time as we had hoped. This was a great foundational class, awesome environment, and would we definitely go back!

This was a very fun experience and I am excited to see how our pieces turn out. It was great to see the operations behind a business of local artists. Everything was very covid friendly as well. The description was a little misleading as it stated that you create 2-3 pots and unlike other experiences there are no extra fees for creating more. However, we were told we could make multiple pots but only take 2 home. Also, if you schedule this experience through Airbnb you work in a group setting with up to 8 people. However, you can schedule directly through the website for a date night and pay the same price and get a private experience with an instructor. Of course if I would have known this I would have scheduled directly through the website. Overall, we enjoyed it and would do it again in a heartbeat, in the future we will just book it differently.

Mudfire Clayworks! Wow what a cute and cool space, the class is informative and gives u a great look behind the scenes. Was such a great time, with the time and ability to make more than one keepsake to take home from this trip! If you want to explore your artistic side I highly recommend giving back to local business by visiting.
