Looking for a real local experience, just a few steps away from the touristy crowds and the city center? Come with me to discover the alternative side of Brussels!

Let's visit up and coming neighborhoods with industrial vibes where hip locals live. This experience offers you a look into what the real Brussels is about: multicultural, vibrant and with tons of cool things to offer. This experience will take you to the birthplace of the city, Place Saint-Géry, where we can still see the old river Senne.

We'll also visit the modern Saint-Cathérine hamlet. What used to be the former harbor, nowadays is a very lively area with restaurants and bars in historical buildings.

But if there's an area in the city that you shouldn't skip, it's the up and coming canal area! Once an industrial area, it has rapidly changed over the last few years into a multicultural place with active artists, families and young students. Let me show you around this vibrant area!

A decade ago I moved to Molenbeek, when I found a job in the youth organization JES. There I started organizing tours to Brussels centre for our trainees and quickly discovered that the canal area itself was worth visiting, because of his industrial past! Later I worked as a music journalist. So now I combine my passion for history with my presentation skills as a journalist. The canal area is rapidly changing, attracting more and more creative and multicultural people. Who else than a passionate local guy could be your guide in this upcoming Brussels hamlet?

Thank you Christophe for the wonderful tour on the history of Brussels! We learnt a lot about the beginnings of the city, the connections between Brussels and other parts of Belgium / Europe, and the modern day Molenbeek. Beer was great, and we also went back to the chocolatier you recommended after the tour. We will be sure to join your other tours the next time we come to Brussels again :)

Christophe has all the qualities you want in a tour guide: he’s friendly, a great conversationalist, knowledgeable about the city and able to tailor the tour to your interests and past experiences. For example, he frequently asked if I had already seen something so he could make sure we saw new places and once he saw I was taking photos of street art, he made a point of highlighting it. As a longtime resident of Molenbeek, he knows the tour area well and was able to point out many features of the architecture, public squares and street life that I would have missed completely if I was walking around on my own. For example, we walked down a beautiful alley lined with historic homes that to my eyes was private but actually was public. The tour is well paced and ends at a lively street with many cafés and restaurants. It was a fantastic introduction to a part of Brussels I had never been to. Highly recommended!

An excellent tour, showing different angles of the city’s history and industrialisation over the years. Christophe is a great story teller, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We enjoyed the tour very much and would definitely recommend it to others.

Zeer interessante, persoonlijke tour!

Going on a walking tour with Christophe was an excellent way to discover less known parts of Brussels. His in-depth knowledge of the city and personal additions based on our interests as his public, made the experience all the better. Christophe is an easy-going, relaxed guide who made us feel at ease from the second we met. Luckily, he also has other tours! So definitely looking forward to seeing him again for another walking experience!
