Qué harás

Most tourists know the North End neighborhood of Boston as our “Little Italy.” But this isn’t just an Italian neighborhood; it's the oldest part of the city, going back to its' founding in 1630. So this North End crime tour isn't about the mob. It's a chance to learn about a wide swath of lesser-known criminal acts that took place here over the centuries.

From the comfort of your home you'll hear stories of an early red-light district, anarchist riots and police station bombings, Colonial Boston scoundrels, pirates, and Boston's biggest bank heist.

Through video, maps, historic photographs, and drawings we'll "walk" a route that will bring these events to life. Along the way, you'll see parts of this 1 square mile neighborhood most tourists never see--even the ones who visit in person! And of course, I'll be happy to answer any questions.

You'll hopefully leave this tour with an appreciation for the rich historical and ethnic diversity of this almost 400-year-old neighborhood.

And you won't need to bring anything except your interest in true crime and history!
Other things to note
This tour is story-telling while showing videos from the neighborhood along with historic photographs, drawings, and maps. It's not pre-recorded. This tour is best viewed on a bigger screen, so please try and use a laptop, full-screen monitor, or TV.

Hi! I'm Kurt! Over the past five years I've given hundreds of tours of Boston's oldest neighborhood, the North End. I'm a storytelling champion with the NPR program, The Moth. My background in libraries, archives, and history means you're getting a thoroughly researched tour with a goal to be historically accurate while keeping things fun. In fact, I've spent dozens of hours researching archives and databases for this virtual tour. The in-person version of my North End Crime Tour has a 5-star rating on Yelp, Google, Facebook, and TripAdvisor with over 50 reviews.

Very informative and engaging! I really enjoyed this experience. It felt surprisingly similar to a real walking tour; although I think I got more out of it because of the visual aspect that Kurt was able to include. He’s a great storyteller! Would recommend!

Interesting and fun insights into a Boston neighborhood, with a unique take that you wouldn't get on a typical tour (as well as historic notes that you would). Now I want to go explore the neighborhood in person!

Kurt is a delightful and gifted storyteller who enjoys sharing stories from the north side of Boston. He starts in 1770 with an introduction to Ebenezer Richardson then takes you Ann Street where you hear tales of the red light district. Kurt sprinkles in stories of Luigi Galleani, pirates, the Wall Street bombings, John Quelch, and perhaps the most interesting story is about Tony Pino. Boston had its fill of shady characters and crime and Kurt makes sure you hear each story. A truly enjoyable online experience.

Great history of crime in the North End. The tour covers crimes that span over 200 years and helped spur the American Revolution and how the neighborhood developed. Great use of old pictures and newspapaer headlines to portray an accurate picture of the times!
