We begin and end at Central Park, home of the Saturday morning Farmers' Market and the Hattie Weber Museum of local Davis history and heritage. We will walk and talk a 5K: stops include the Bicycle Hall of Fame, train depot, Putah Creek and the Native American Contemplation Garden, the Mondavi Center for Performing Arts, historical markers including original olive and fig trees from the Davis and Chiles families, the Silo of the University Farm, and more.

Learn about the major influences that have shaped Davis: Putah Creek and early inhabitants, the californios and land grants, agriculture/husbandry, the railroad, and the university farm. We will also have the opportunity to see more recent history in development projects and public art along the way.

All these places are publicly available for you to visit any time, and yet their rich history is not often heard. When you take time to examine the footprints of the Patwins, rancheros, settlers, fur trappers, judges, artists, administrators, and students who walked in the space over decades and centuries before you, Davis will take on new meaning.
Other things to note
We WILL be walking ~3.2 mi., so please wear comfy shoes, dress in layers, and bring water. The walk usually takes 2 hours. If you need to shorten it or need to be somewhere after, let me know in advance so I can accommodate you. We meet at Central Park in front of the Hattie Weber Museum on C St.

I came to Davis for my doctorate over 10 years ago, and fell in love with the city, both past and present. As an academic researcher, genealogist, and local history lover, I've put together a historical walking tour of Davis because so many people spend time in places whose past is hidden right there in plain sight. Spending 90 minutes with the history enhances any other Davis experience.

A nice intro to the history of UCDavis and the town of Davis. Serena’s knowledge and personal stories provided a nice blend of information. The length was just right. My high school senior and college sophomore both said it was better than they expected.

Serena is very knowledgeable about the history of Davis. She showed us around town and UCD. She also gave us several restaurant recommendations . Highly recommend any students interested in UCD to take a tour with Serena in addition to the campus tour to get a better idea of the town.

Serena was a great tour guide! I am from out of town and was looking for something fun to do on a Saturday morning. I thought it was going to be just a way to pass the time, but Serena was amazing, friendly, and full of information! I had no idea there was so much history in the small town of Davis. I had a great time and would recommend this tour to anyone passing through the area or even residents of the town. You will definitely learn something new!

What a stellar historical tour! Serena is a gem of a researcher and a very patient tour guide. We were in town for one day to see the UCD college campus and so very grateful we came across this experience on ABNB. We got so much out of this tour learning about Davis' local native Patwin peoples to the early founders of the city: rancheros and academics who envisioned a town that honors cows, bikes, books & trees. Even the youngest in our family came away from the tour with more gratitude for those who walked in our steps before us.

The Davis tour was an actual delight. Serena painted a rich historical picture of this small town that she sprinkled with interesting facts and anecdotes. The tour was the perfect amount of walking and I felt like I was able to experience many of the diverse pockets of the town. Thank you Serena for making Davis a place I will visit again!

If you enjoy comfortable walking this was very enjoyable, especially along the Arboretum Trail. Serena did her homework to make this tour interesting and enjoyable.
