Hi, welcome! During the 1.5 hour handbuilding workshop you'll be creating your own mug and plate, or go for a more advanced challenge and create a little pot for sugar. With only your hands and a ball of clay! When entering you can take a seat and settle in your spot while I (Christina) provide you with coffee or tea from a handmade mug. You can introduce yourself to Olaf (my dog) and let me know if you like Olaf present at the workshop (he is perfectly fine with relaxing in another room if you prefer this). I will show you some examples of clay aswell as creation examples. I'll show you the basics of the handpinch technique and together we will start pinching on our first item. From here we create, discover and play with the clay while creating items that you can use at home. I can answer your questions, we can talk about life or nothing at all (in English or Dutch). When the end of the workshop approaches I'll let you know and while you wash your hands I will grab a small goodie back for you to take with you. We'll make arrangements regarding you receiving your created items (the drying and baking proces will be done by me and will take up to 3 to 4 weeks, so most likely I need to send them to you through post). And then, a couple weeks after your vacation you will receive your own handmade souvenirs, covered by your fingerprints (foodsafe and dishwasher proof)
Embrace your crooked self! I welcome you in my private workshopspace, located on a small farm just outside the city of Groningen, with a clear view across the typical flat fields of this country. Crooked Garden was born somewhere around 2017, during a stressful graduation year at art school. Pinching pots proved to be the perfect vessel for my need for making im-perfect things. The Japanese have a word for this called; 'Wabi-Sabi'. Which means looking at the world with an acceptance for imperfection, and through that, seeing beauty. That is what Crooked Garden stands for. The beauty of imperfection. Of character, of flaws, of cherishing the charasteristic crookedness that we carry in all of us. During this workshop I will welcome you into the world of handbuilding with clay. Let's create art, in a functional form
