Prepare for a real eye-opener as I take you through centuries of history in easy-to-digest bite-size pieces. We’ll stroll through my home town of Falmouth along a linear route from one end of the town to the other. We'll start from The Moor, go up the old High Street and along each of the historic quays, discovering a town steeped in maritime history. Along the way I’ll tell you stories and show you things most people completely miss, many of them in plain view! During the walk you’ll see locations where the most significant events took place in Falmouth’s history, hear about the people at the heart of the town’s story and learn how Falmouth has evolved over the centuries to become the iconic maritime hub it is today. But be ready for some dark tales including cannibalism, shipwreck and piracy! Narrow alleyways, cobbled streets and picturesque views across the Fal estuary and the Carrick Roads provide amazing subjects for photographs to remember your experience along with my quirky hand-drawn map of the route. Please wear comfortable footwear and attire, appropriate to the weather conditions. The tour will go ahead even if it rains! We ascend and descend one hill (which you can opt-out of but will shorten your tour) however the majority of the walk is relatively flat. There are some uneven/cobbled sections and a short flight of steps.
I’ve been guiding walks for over 12 years for an international walking holiday organisation and have a passion for history: I love to uncover and share quirky facts and hidden histories, especially in my adopted county of Cornwall. I aim to bring a place alive by relating stories and showing visitors (and even locals!) interesting things they are unlikely to have noticed themselves. I’ve lived in Falmouth for over 13 years and have amassed an extensive knowledge of the town’s history. This includes some Cornish words and phrases, and I'll happily share these with you.
My own unique, quirky hand-drawn map of the route for you to follow as we go along, and for you to take home as a souvenir.

We'll start at The Moor where I'll paint you a picture of how it used to be and how it was developed. We'll proceed up the old High Street (on a hill) to peek through narrow cobbled alleys and see the unassuming 18th century old town hall with a dark tale. Our journey then takes us along to each of the historic quays, each with it's own unique place in maritime history, ending near the iconic National Maritime Museum.
