  • Lances home was exquisite, beautiful, and relaxing. The view from your room was once and a lifetime view. Definitely worth the experience. Upon meeting Lance he was very friendly, kind, and helpful if needed. Couldn't ask for more. Thank you again Lance!

  • Lance's place is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. He is such an accommodating host with loads of personality. Super casual, polite, hospitable, clever and quick witted, a very fun conversationalist indeed. He is very respectful of one's privacy and he is also there if you need any recommendations (which are on point as well!) Bukowski (his cat)– also very fun and friendly. We had a blast staying in this breathtaking treehouse.

  • The Iconic Saul Zaik Treehouse was an eye-opening experience. The views were beautiful. Lance was very accommodating. If you are interested in unique spaces, this is a secret, quiet location.

    Philip2015-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lance's home is the single most spectacular view of Portland and the unique architecture should not be missed! Lance was very kind. We had a scheduling glitch that he was able to fix quickly!

    Kelly2015-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • After having some not so good nights at our first airbnb Lance's place definitely made up for it. The place is clean n comfortable and just like everyone else has already said the views are amazing. Communication with Lance is super easy and he is a welcoming host. The place is spacious, bed is very comfortable and the shower head was an added bonus :) Wish we had stayed longer.

Unique hand built cob cottage next to lg. pond w water feature. Lg. fenced and gated yard. Gentle, curving space-made from sand, straw, water and earth . Featured in multiple international publications. The floor is also earthen clay with added radiant heat. Beautiful natural light. It's truly a magical place.
It's a curvilinear earthen structure hand sculpted from water, sand, straw, and clay earth. It features a radial roof with a central pagoda-like skylight. When building the Cob, we used reclaimed and natural materials when ever possible. The insulation in the ceiling is made from pulverized reclaimed blue jeans and the floor is made from the same earthen clay. It has a Dutch door, so you can open the top part for additional ventilation. It also has air conditioning available in the warmer months and a radiant heat floor. The bed is a very comfortable double with a memory foam mattress topper. The bathroom for the cottage is in the main house, about 40 steps to the back door. Inside you’ll find a large sitting room and full kitchen as well as your bath with claw foot tub and shower. These spaces are shared with 2 Airbnb rooms in the house. If you find the bath busy, our full bath is available upstairs on the second floor.
We are located in a sweet older neighborhood in inner SE Portland, built around the turn of the century. The neighborhood is extremely walkable/bikeable, and just two blocks from one of Portland's great restaurant rows, filled with unique locally owned restaurants, coffeehouses, bars, food carts, pot shops, ice cream vendors, pizza joints, clothing retailers, yoga studios and yes, even an old-school hardware store.
  • The stay was welcoming, cozy and private. Jack and Cris put a lot of work and details into their cottage. You can tell by how excited they are for guests just by (Email hidden by Airbnb) munication went well, checking in and out were smooth and we had tons of privacy. Portland was extremely cold and windy but the cob cottage kept us warm. We actually turned off the heater during the night. The coffee area and bathroom were clean, every thing was fully stocked. Location was perfect! If it wasn't windy, we honestly would've walked instead of using uber. The only complaint I have was the branch scratching the ceiling but other than that, I loved EVERYTHING about it!

    Pang2017-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting and great access to great food and drink.

    Keegan2017-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the cottage and felt it was perfect for my friend and I! Jack was very welcoming and gave me a small tour of his yard. Definitely recommend his cottage for a cozy and comfortable stay!

    Jackie2016-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute little hut in a great Portland neighborhood! I could not believe how lucky I had gotten to find such a cool place for such a great deal. Loved having my morning tea by the pond right outside. Definitely would recommend!

    Caitlan2017-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cozy stay. Loved it. Very clean, nice and private sun room lounge. Claw tub 👌🏽.

    Josh2016-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolutely gorgeous, I would most definitely rather stay here than a hotel. They gave us all the privacy and provided us with all the amenities we needed. We had the whole backyard to ourselves and didn't feel bothered at all. Amazing stay

    Victor2016-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Cris and Jack were very welcoming and friendly. Had a great nite sleep. Visited by friendly cats. Very quiet.

    Kactus2016-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy cottage, and the hosts are very welcoming and responsive. The neighborhood is beautiful, and the home is about a 10 minute Lyft ride to downtown Portland. It is a great value for the price, and comfortably fits two people.

This wonderful, private little gem is just a few easy walking blocks from plentiful drinking, dining, dispensing, yoga & coffee spots. You will be one block from Woodlawn Park, 2 blocks from a bus and a 5 minute drive from the Alberta Shopping and Arts District. It's all so comfortably close by, but not close enough to disturb your relaxing, sweet retreat. Come have it all while living small in this tiny, artsy home away from home!
This space was built as a Model T Garage in 1926 behind a 1915 bungalow but it has had a face lift and has taken on a new life as a cozy, warm freestanding studio made mostly from reclaimed materials. A "tiny house" if you will, sweetly positioned between fruit trees and a garden sitting area. The sleeping loft comfortably sleeps two and there is a futon below the loft where one can enjoy a book while the other naps above. Occasionally you will hear the trains in the distance which adds a touch of nostalgia and you get to wake to the relaxing clucking and cooing of the neighborhood hens as this area has a nice spattering of urban farms and lots of mature trees. For your comfort, this as a "pet dander free" space. No pets, thanks. The table pictured here has been replaced with a "garden shed" counter that houses a small, removable basin sink. There is also a rustic, rough hewn armoire to hang clothes and tuck away your backpacks. The little kitchenette corner is stocked with utensils, a two burner cooktop, a mini fridge, a microwave, coffee and a coffee press. The studio's setup is more akin to a cabin, and as many cabins go, there is no bathroom. You will be given a key to the main house so please feel comfortable enough to come in and use the facilities. By the way, it is insulated, well heated, and stocked with plenty of blankets so it is a wonderful, warm hideaway in the fall and winter months as well. Yep, snuggly wifi too. The yard is plentiful with flowers and fruit bearing trees (figs and delicious yellow plums) in the summertime, as well as an array of veggies in the gardens where you can sit amongst the trees and regroup after a hard day at Powells Books. It's within a 5 minute walk from the heart of Woodlawn which has some fantastic spots to shop, drink, dance, and dine: -Firehouse Restaurant, somewhat romantic with good service -Woodlawn Coffee House, for plenty of people watching -Breakside Brewery, to grab a bite and catch up on the game -Grand Army Tavern, have some pork with your...pork : ) -Good Neighbor Pizza, laid back & late night too -P's & Q's Market serves yummy meals and a few grocery items -The Village Ballroom, for Square Dance and Special events -Uptown Cycles, sales and repairs -Portland Girl, spa day anyone? -Greener Grasses, well-rated dispensary -Koken Market, for almost any beer you want, snacks -Café Eleven, art, coffee, lunch & some pastries -Oregon Public House, the nation's 1st nonprofit pub -The Highwater Mark, rock pub with pool & hip hop on last Fridays -Tamale Boy, authentic & delicious with lots of outside seating -Bassato Gelato, 12 rotating flavors+bagels in the morning -HighWheel Mead, open Thurs-Sunday -(Seasonally) Woodlawn Farmer's Market at Woodlawn Triangle, Sat. 10-2 Downtown is a 15 minute drive. The Alberta Arts District is also just minutes away so you can hop on a bike and be right in the middle of the jam-packed Last Thursday Art Walk or make a day of it with shopping, dinner and some delicious ice cream from the infamous Salt & Straw. Then come "home" to your quieter retreat where you can just relax and lay in the hammock.....ahhhh. And as the area is well surrounded by beautiful, mature trees, you may decide to enjoy dinner in the love seat swing under the pergola and watch the evening sky. It is a wonderful theatre for watching small bats do their sky routine in the distance. Flying in? This spot is only 10 minutes from the airport. And while in Portland, you may want some wheels! Well, this location is very close to Zipcars and you can sign up with them or Car2go on their sites in advance of your stay. Check out Turo or Getaround to grab a vehicle to tool But if you want to explore the city on two wheels, Everybody Bike Rentals or Ebikes ( electric bike rentals) are the spots to hit first (10 min. by bus). They provide helmets and locks too! ***If you don't see the dates available on the calendar that you had hoped for or if you are traveling with more than two people, please check out my other listing (#95313) which is also a private studio at the same location. It is larger and complete with a private entry and bathroom. Just ask me! Parking is close and the livin' is pretty easy. So please get that profile completed, then contact me and come kick up your heels and stay a while! Oh! P.S. Please read the description, house rules and post a pic of you in your profile beforehand just so that everyone is on the same page. Much appreciated. Cheers!
  • Andree's cottage was adorable, very warm and comfortable. The location was amazing, close enough to easily walk to a handful of restaurants, a moderate walk to Alberta (super cool area) and a direct bus to downtown. Andree was very helpful and open with her home. As long as you don't mind going into her house to get water or use the bathroom, this is a great place to stay. I felt very safe in the neighborhood and welcome at Andree's.

    Cassandra2013-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Andrée was a wonderful host—warm, knowledgable, friendly and endlessly helpful. She's an incredible resource for recommendations around Portland as well: everything from food and beer to vintage shops and transportation routes. We felt welcomed from the second we got there, and noticed all the special little touches Andrée had put around the loft. Would happily stay here again!

    Megan2015-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Andree s little lodge was perfect for what we needed. She was super accommodating and very flexible and willing to even meet us early in the morning upon our arrival. She's very outgoing and friendly and will make sure that you feel at home as we did. We loved our stay and loved the location.

    Andrea2016-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • Andrée is a warm, friendly, knowledgeable, considerate host, and her place is both adorable and very well thought-out. Even though the kitchenette is small and doesn't have a sink, she has worked around it cunningly: everything I needed was right there, and then when I did need to go into her house to wash dishes more seriously, it was no problem. Because I injured my foot and was not able to use the loft, I slept on the futon-couch downstairs, which turned out to be far more comfortable than I had anticipated: nice! The one warning for future guests I would give (and this is completely out of the host's control) is that there is currently some construction going on next door. It wasn't a problem when I was gone all day, but it was a little noisy when I spent the morning working in the studio. If you are noise-sensitive and plan to be in the studio during the day, I recommend checking in with Andrée to see if the construction is finished yet. That aside, I can't recommend this place enough!

    Ellis2014-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Andree was great. She was available when we showed up and provided lots of great suggestions as to what to do/places to eat and check out. We were so happy to stay in that neighbourhood as it was close to some action, but far enough away to be more of a residential area - quaint, friendly and close to some great restaurants and breweries! The suite was very comfortable, uber adorable, and made our stay awesome! We will definitely stay there again next time we are in Portland! I highly recommend it!

    Amanda2015-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wasn't great to communicate with when trying to set up a time to check in. Room was very nice, but not in a very nice area of Portland.

    David2015-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Sad I was only there for two nights -- the loft was such a relaxing retreat. Andrée was very welcoming and friendly. The location was such that I could easily bike everywhere I wanted to go. Overall great experience.

    Amanda2013-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • The space was cute and provided everything we needed, however it was much smaller than expected with additional furniture than shown in photos.

With lots of space and light, this studio has everything that makes a house feel like a home: a fireplace, a full kitchen, a queen bed, oak floors, handmade furniture, cable tv including HBO, and a private entrance.
This studio is a welcoming space in the center of an historic neighborhood that offers a unique perspective on the city of Portland. Ask me for in-depth info on where to go and what to see in the Irvington neighborhood, the Alberta Arts District, and other parts of Northeast Portland! Over the years, I’ve gotten to know quite a few incredible places to eat, drink, shop, and explore here. Located at the hub of some of Portland’s most interesting neighborhoods, this studio places the whole city at your fingertips. But adventure can be tiring, and the studio offers ample opportunity to put your feet up. Portland can get nippy at night, and a real wood fireplace, stocked with firewood from locally harvested and dried urban hardwood trees, is the perfect way to warm up and feel at home. The apartment has high ceilings and a great fireplace; it’s minimally decorated but has all the important things: a queen bed, a couch with a coffee table, a small desk, a dresser and extra shelves, and a kitchen table. The kitchen comes fully stocked with the essentials for cooking a real meal, and the bathroom always has towels, soap and shampoo. The space is located on the first floor of a large 1910 home, which was converted to an eight-plex in the 1940s to adapt to the demands of WWII. I have lived in Irvington for 14 years and Portland for 25, and this house is one of the most unique that I’ve seen.
The Irvington neighborhood, now only a ten minute bike ride from downtown, was once a trolley-car suburb to the just-fully-developed West side. Designated a historic district by the National Register of Historic Places in 2010, Irvington is filled with early 20th century homes that have been preserved in their original states. Irvington has become a livable hub of Northeast Portland as a whole, with shops and restaurants of all kinds, within walking distance, surrounding the neighborhood. Irvington proper boasts more than a few community and culinary destinations of its own.
  • La casa es muy bonita y limpia. Todo funciona: chimenea, agua caliente, estufa... Todo. El barrio es hermoso. Parece de un cuento. El acceso al centro de la ciudad es fácil y más o menos rápido.

    Pixel2016-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great neighborhood, easy to check in, Jason is surer accessible and helpful. Apartment was very clean, quiet and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The bikes were the best way to tour the city.

    Lisa2015-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute studio! And the location was so great and central. Jason made it all super convenient and easy for us.

    rebecca2015-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place was so cute and perfect! I wish I could actually live there! The bed was super comfortable and he had all the appliances for us to make our own food (but we didn't have the time since we only stayed one night). Very helpful that he had a flyer with local places to eat and shop.

    Kenzie2016-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Jason's place! It was in a great location, he was easy to communicate with, and the space was clean and cozy. We loved the fire place and the big windows. Definitely recommend for anyone staying short or long term!

    Margot2017-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful neighborhood. Cozy little studio. Centrally located. Quiet and peaceful.

    Jackson2016-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • this little studio was perfect! it was clean and quiet and in a lovely part of town. wish we could have stayed more than one night. thanks Jason!

    Meredith2016-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Neighborhood is gorgeous and treelined, the space is huge with everything you need, including an amazing fireplace. Really adds to the charm :) 5-10 minute drive into downtown (and all other fun areas of portland) so it is very centrally located. We really felt at home in the space and Jason is easy-going and very nice. Would definitely recommend this listing to anyone visiting Portland.

If we are home when you arrive, we will be happy to give you a tour of our home and offer you a cup of tea or a glass of wine while you have complete access to our English gardens, courtyard and barbecue during your stay. We think you will be pleased if you choose to stay in the "Quaint English Garden Apartment " located in our beautiful historic home!
Laurelhurst is an historic old Portland neighborhood with beautiful homes, street trees and a huge park a few blocks away designed by the Olmsted's who designed Central Park in NYC. You will see how homes in Laurelhurst are each very different and unique from craftsmen with large porches to smaller bungalows with beautiful gardens.

    Guenter2015-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • The property was in a nice area of Portland and quiet. We enjoyed the white kitty cat.

    David2015-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Not only were Sue and Bob the most kind and gracious hosts, they were incredibly responsive and helpful. We came to town to look at homes and they offered great advice! Also, the apartment was exactly as advertised, if not better. Every need was anticipated and it was so charming and perfectly decorated. I only have one piece of advice. If you are above 6'5" this place may be too short for you. Otherwise I couldn't be more glad that I stayed here instead of a hotel! 5 stars!

    Stephanie2015-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage apartment was picture perfect and very well appointed. Not a large space, but just enough room for everything you need, including a well done bath and kitchen area. Everything is very, very cute. After a long day of traveling Bob and Sue were so accommodating and kind upon our arrival. The location is in a pretty neighborhood with close, easy access to everything you'd want in Portland. Definitely recommend!

    Julia2012-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house and gardens, lovely apartment, wonderful leafy neighborhood with easy access to freeway. Sue is a delightful, genial and generous host. The spotless, comfortable apartment works for one or two people and makes a great place to stay when you need/want to be in Portland. You'll appreciate the nice bowl of fruit, the washer/dryer, the TV and DVDs, the maps, tourist books and walking tour descriptions and all the other thoughtful touches.

    Barbara2012-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • They reached out with a frienly phone call. Wonderful host ...very comfortable to visit with. You can tell they enjoy sharing their lovely home.

    Teresa2015-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Sue was out of town when we arrived in Portland, but Bob was extremely helpful and welcoming. The house was absolutely beautiful and had everything we'd need over a three day stay. The W/D was especially helpful as we'd been on the road a few days. Nothing but good things to say about the home and Bob and it comes highly recommended.

    Charlie2015-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Quaint English Cottage Garden Apt. It was perfect for our needs. The bed was extremely comfortable and with the quiet environment, we could have stayed in bed much longer. The kitchen, utility room, and bathroom had everything we could have wanted for a short stay - including popcorn! Bob and Sue were great hosts - giving us a tour of their home and a bottle of wine to welcome us. We would have enjoyed spending more time with them if we were staying longer. We will certainly be back to stay with them the next time we travel to Portland!

Everything you need is here at our brand new guesthouse loft: a luxurious, lofted queen bedroom; high ceilings with floods of natural light, a modern kitchen, full bath with heated tile, comfy sleeper sofa for extra guests, and Stumptown Coffee with organic cream. The loft rests at the back of the property, one block from bustling Division St, and short blocks from restaurants, coffeeshops, & the Woodsman Tavern, named “One of America’s Best Bars,” by Esquire Magazine.
The loft is located in our backyard in Southeast Portland. While we are only steps away if you need us, the space is very private. In fact, guests report that they forget they are in the middle of the city when they stay in our space! We live in a desirable and fun neighborhood, and parking can be tight! Guests usually find parking within a block of our house. At night or during busy times of the day, parking can be found within two short blocks. Guests may feel free to use our driveway for loading/unloading. We do not have a TV in the guesthouse, but offer excellent wifi access.
Our neighborhood has everything you will need, mostly within a five-minute walk! And if you want to visit a different part of the city, there is convenient public transportation around the corner. Check out excellent coffeeshops blocks away (Good Coffee and Stumptown), delicious and intimate restaurants (Bete Lukas, Mi Mero Mole, The Woodsman), or walk up to Mt. Tabor Park. If you're into yoga, there's an awesome space (Yoga Union) around the corner.
  • Cute, new stylish and cozy little place. Parking sucks only street parking and good luck finding any near by. Be prepared to walk a few blocks. Home offers great wifi but no TV. Wish they did have a TV, would of been nice to log into Netflix to watch a movie and unwind. The home is in a central location minutes from everything. Check in and out was a breeze. I would recommend it to others looking for something affordable and cozy.

  • Laurel and Brian have a gem. Excellent spot, great food nearby with great recommendations in the guestbook. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better location east of downtown. Walking distance to every quintessential Portland locale: Pok Pok, Stumptown, Por Que No?, Good Coffee, Salt and Straw,Kim Jong Grillin, Petite Provence ... the list goes on. Super clean comfy guest house, very quiet street, lots of privacy, no TV (which is always great on vaca), the perfect size. Must stay.

  • Our stay at Lauren & Brian's place was amazing! We were able to explore the Division/Hawthorne area and had a wonderful quiet place to come back to just a walk away. Check-in/out was super easy and everything was exactly as listed.

    Amanda2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as described. Laurel and Brian really live up to the Superhost standard. The space is clean and tidy with high end amenities and an amazingly comfortable bed. This place had everything we needed, even automatic window shades and heated tile in the bathroom! Superb location in the trendy Southeast part of Portland. The hosts always responded and were really helpful with our questions. Although the loft is feet away from their home, it still felt secluded. We had no problem using lyft to get around the city, and restaurants/shops/grocery all within walking distance. Highly recommend!

You will enter just past the Ned Ludd front patio via a private, secure, gated entrance off of MLK at NE Failing street and follow the stairway up to the second level. This is the larger of the three rooms. Each room is newly refurbished and furnished with beautiful, responsibly sourced tropical salvage out of Indonesia and locally re-purposed wood/trim doors and windows. Your private room comes with a window, a wall-mounted flatscreen t.v., small refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, free wi-fi an armoire, an ornate sink carved out of stone, down pillows, down comforters, a king-sized posturepedic mattress and zen colored walls that might just make you think you are in... Bali?
NEPO (aka NE Portland) is hip and cool and like so many hip Portland neighborhoods–it is ever-expanding and reinventing itself. New restaurants, shops, boutiques and businesses are popping up all over. Whether you are looking for a place to lay your head for the night while you get out and explore during the day, or you are just looking for a place you can hole up and relax, we've got you covered. The options and amenities you will find here in your little oasis in NEPO are plentiful.
  • Very convenient check-in and check-out process and a nice space! The only downside was that you can hear the roadway from the bed at night, which would be problematic if you are a light sleeper. Otherwise, a great location. The room was above Nedd Ludd, where we had an amazing dinner and near a coffee shop and a short walk to the arts district. Thanks Tim!

  • Had a great time staying in Timothy's air bnb. The room was really large and beautifully furnished. The bathrooms were clean and we could get coffee every morning from just down the hallway. We enjoyed hanging out on the roof terrace. The place is wonderfully situated near lots of great places to eat, including the Ned Ludd (which has a yummy pizza night on Monday's). Would highly recommend it!

  • This is one of the larger rooms at Timothy's multi-unit airbnb in Northeast Portland. The location on MLK Blvd was quite good -- away from the hustle and bustle of downtown and within walking (or very short driving or ride-hailing) distance of NEPO's funky N. Williams, Alberta St and Mississippi Ave neighborhoods, all of which have that authentic Portlandia vibe (i.e. limitless brunch options). And it's still only about a 15ish-minute drive or Lyft/Uber ride downtown (we paid about $13 one-way). There's also public transit or bike rental options nearby, if that's more your bag. The room itself was nicely appointed with a king-sized bed and a few in-room amenities like a mini-fridge, microwave, sink, and a fan in case it gets a bit warm. The room does face out onto MLK Blvd, which is a pretty busy thoroughfare, although it does die down at night, and we usually sleep with earplugs anyway, so it was a non-issue. One quirk as compared to most of our other airbnb stays: shared restrooms. There are two restrooms and two private shower stalls that are shared with about 4-5 other airbnb rooms. We were a bit wary about this when booking, and although it was never inconvenient as far as access went, we would have liked to see them tended to a bit more regularly to ensure cleanliness. Other than that, it was a great place to stay and we'd certainly consider booking again if we return to Portland in the future.

  • Staying with Timothy was an excellent experience. Communication was great, the room was clean and attractive, and the location allowed for easy parking with plenty of restaurants nearby. Hope to stay again!

  • Extremely private & relaxing place to stay. Everything was perfect. Very great location in Alberta Arts District. Would love to stay here again!

  • Great place near some cool restaurants.

    Michael2017-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed just an afternoon and left early the next morning, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was large and the bed was very comfortable. Tim's friendly dog greeted us. The hostel set-up with shared bathrooms worked just fine... there were two toilets and two showers and they were never too busy. The sink in the room was nice to have. We loved exploring the Alberta Arts district (Tea Bar, Seastar Bakery, Pok Pok Noi). The hostel has an amazing location right next to Ned Ludd, which was FANTASTIC. What a romantic, interesting, and DELICIOUS restaurant.

    Tracy2016-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Tim was very easy to contact, though we did have a problem finding the site until we remembered to use the nearby restaurant (which was very interesting, food was amazing - and staff and clients very friendly) for directions - as Tim had told us! Very unique arrangement. More like an apartment building with rooms down a corridor. Room was great, bed huge and comfortable. We shared a bath and shower (sort of dorm like) but they were always available and clean and right across the hall. Had washer and dryer which was a big plus because we were on a long trip and it was time to do the laundry!

This listing is a private bedroom in a shared apartment with 3 other individuals. We are considerate, quiet, & conscious of our guests space & privacy. In the heart of Portland's NW 23rd District, our place is nestled close to some of Portland's finest shops & cafes: Salt & Straw, Barista, and Fireside to name a few. The apartment has become a "destination" in itself due to the amazing natural light & Scandinavian interior design - even garnering its own hashtag on Instagram (#theaptupstairs).
"The Apartment Upstairs" is perfect for couples, urban adventurers, and creative travelers. Private bedroom outfitted with luxury Portuguese linen, plush Turkish cotton towels, waffle knit robes & slippers, & alpaca wool throws from our friends over at Parachute Home. All room decor and artwork is done by fellow Portland & Los Angeles creatives.
  • Ben was very welcoming and kind! We came in late Monday evening and he still gave us a tour and rundown of his lovely apartment. The minimalist simplicity of the apartment made for a beautiful aesthetic and the natural light was perfect. Despite its beauty our favorite aspect of the Apt Upstairs was actually how walkable it was to 23d! Also, Ben provided us with a list of cool things to do which was very helpful. We can't wait to get back to Portland and would love to stay here again!!

  • Had a great experience at the Apt Upstairs. Check-in was a breeze, the space and bathroom were immaculately clean and very uniquely designed/decorated. Room temp was fine too. Location was optimal and close to the Peal brewpubs. Thanks for hosting us and we would highly recommend.

  • The Apt Upstairs is an amazing place, in a perfect location, with great hosts! Benjamin was awesome, extremely communicative and helpful. He made it possible for us to check in early, gave us a huge list of recommended sights, restaurants and bars and just made everything super easy. The apartment itself is beautifully decorated, clean and welcoming. Would definitely stay here again!

    Courtney2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • The room and the whole apartment were exactly as pictured and me and my friend loved it! It definitely made our first time in Portland special and atmospheric. Benjamin was very easy going and provided a great list of food spots and other sites to visit! I would stay here again.

  • Benjamin's place is 10 out 10, location is just more than perfect, it just less than one minute walk to cafe/shop/restaurant strip. The room itself is cosy, comfy bed & linen, small touches like welcome note and bath robe etc are made us feel like home. The whole place is well immaculately designed and decorated. Benjamin is very friendly too, showing us around and also provide us a list if what to do/eat/see in Portland. Would highly recommend! x

  • Great stay at the Apt. upstairs. Room is a bit tight but attention to detail with decor made up for it. Room was chilly due to a cold weather spell but Ben offered a room heater to accommodate. The space is beautiful and the host was extremely friendly. Location is unbeatable.

Relaxed + modern one bedroom basement apt. Bright + spacious with a handmade Portland touch. Comfortable for two, it's a great home-base for the traveler wanting to explore PDX! Located in charming Woodlawn neighborhood. Near the park, bars and bus lines.
Handmade by us! We're a craftsman and an interior designer who are not afraid to get our hands dirty. Stay in this remodeled basement where every detail was thought, planned and carefully constructed. We value high-end, conscious design. Our motto is maintain, reclaim and sustain. All of the exposed wood was salvaged from this 100 year old home! We love our house and hope that you do too. It's a great, peaceful place to crash at the end of the day. A plush queen sized bed, a huge doorless walk-in bathroom (ie. divided by a wall), glass walk-in shower and a tiny but efficient kitchen were top priorities when we made this place. The kitchen has dishwasher/fridge/oven stocked with all the pots/pans and plates to make a nice meal at home. Its always a shifting art-installation, so don't be surprised if the art in the listing photos change. We like to collect art and objects during our travels.
We're one block from 2 major bus lines (the 8 goes to downtown) and our neighborhood market, P's & Q's. 3 blocks from Woodlawn park + 5 blocks to our neighborhood hub: breweries, dance hall, coffee shop and restaurants. Woodlawn is a great area and closely located to Alberta Arts District, Mississippi and Kenton.
  • This little apartment that Anna and Jeremy set up was just so much fun and so gorgeous! It was a great place to come back to and nap in between adventures and meals (I was so stuffed!) and it was very close to some of the places we most wanted to visit. We even got to ride our bikes to a great breakfast spot one morning! Such a modern and clean place and we'll definitely come back if we come through Portland again.

    Alex2017-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Anna and Jeremy were great hosts. Their home is lovely and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed the spa like shower and how spacious it was. To top it off the location is great with wonderful restaurants just a short walk away. Thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful home!

    Courtney2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • This space was perfect for my visit to Portland, and Anna and Jeremy were very pleasant and helpful. I'd definitely stay here again!

    Ciera2016-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Anna & Jeremy contacted us before our arrival and provided us detailed instructions regarding check-in and entry to the unit. We arrived at their home at the same time they did and Anna showed us around. The unit is charming, efficient and comfortable. Clean & well appointed, it has a kind of minimalist flavor to it. Tucked into the NE corner of Portland, it is convenient to PDX and easy to access I-205. The comfortable bed was a welcome feature after a long day of traveling and we enjoyed our short stay a great deal.

    Jerry/Aida2014-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Was exactly as advertised, right down to the very sweet neighbor cat who would come say hi. Very stylish and homey studio. Bright natural lighting was abundant. The bathroom was on point, and very nicely done. Everything was very clean and kept up. I didn't locate a thermostat, but the apartment was kept at a comfortable temperature during my stay.

    JENNIFER2016-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is even better than pictured. Beautifully designed and appointed with everything you need. The hosts are very easy to contact and helpful. The neighbourhood is lovely also. You need to use public transport/car/bike to get to downtown but the area itself has places to eat and drink. Highly recommend.

    Kim2014-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved Anna and Jeremy's space. They live in a hip, quaint and close knit neighborhood in Portland with lots to do within walking distance. Anna was very helpful with giving suggestions of places to eat and explore within the city. She even provided a handmade guide. We felt so comfortable here and would definitely stay again! The kitchen is also a nice perk to staying here :)

A quiet, cozy bedroom & bathroom on the ground floor of a beautiful, modern new home in a verdant, friendly Southeast Portland neighborhood. Enthusiastic greeting by very friendly dogs & cat comes standard!
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE LISTING BEFORE REQUESTING ACCOMMODATION. As a courtesy to our guests, our check-in time is 3:00 pm; however, as we both work weekdays, we cannot have the rooms ready until 5:30 or so. What this means is that our guests are welcome to make themselves at home in their living room or just drop their bags off and head out exploring, but they won't be able to rest their weary heads or hit the showers until we've had a chance to get home and tidy up. (PLEASE NOTE: This listing highlights the primary guest bedroom available, but for parties of 3 or 4 people, we do have a secondary bedroom that also features a queen-sized bed. If you are making a reservation for two people and you wish to book both bedrooms, PLEASE EXPLICITLY TELL US SO, as the default for two guests is ONE bedroom; for a two-guest reservation, the cost will be the listed room rate + $25/night. All guests share the same bathroom.) There is almost an entire floor available in our brand-new home smack-dab in the heart of fun, accessible Southeast Portland! This means that our guest(s) get not only their own quiet bedroom, but also a private full bathroom AND their own nicely-appointed living room (please note: the first-floor living room is NOT private, as it does not have a ceiling and is the way between the front door of the house and the stairs to the second floor). We are steps away from a frequent-service bus line, a terrific sandwich shop that's open for breakfast, lunch AND dinner, a pizza joint, a Starbucks, and, best of all, a Trader Joe's! The house is about two miles south of the trendy Hawthorne district, one mile south of nationally-recognized Division Street, and about four miles east of downtown Portland. The house itself is a beautiful, soaring Doug Fir- and hemlock-constructed dream home decorated with one-of-kind glass art pieces and potted succulents. Our guests have access to our fabulous kitchen in addition to their own first-floor amenities. We have a very friendly housecat you will likely meet during your stay, but the guest bedroom and guest bathroom doors are kept closed for the comfort of allergen-sensitive guests. We also have two friendly dogs who will greet you eagerly upon your arrival, but who otherwise spend their time hanging out with us and don't wander much to the guest floor. Lastly, to our guests during the colder months: the guest floor tends to be the coolest in the house, and we provide space heaters and afghans for your comfort, but we figure we should let you know ahead of time that if you run cold, ours may not be the ideal place for your stay.
Our neighborhood is so great! We are really close to several cool Portland hubs, but we're on a relatively quiet residential street so we truly have the best of all worlds.
  • Brad and Becca were wonderful, and their house is simply gorgeous. Highly recommended!

    Joey2013-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived at 10:30 at night. Brad was still waiting and welcomed us. We stayed only one night because we had joined with our daughter in downtown next day. The place was very, very beautiful!!!!

    Seung2013-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Brad and Becca made our stay superb! Their place is straight out of an interior design magazine, and the attention to detail was great (ie. clean towels hung on racks, clean room, chocolates by the bed). Also, their cat and new puppy are adorable. Highly recommended!

    Tom2013-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I stayed here for a romantic weekend getaway and thoroughly enjoyed the urban treehouse. Brad and Becca were great hosts and the check-in process was easy. Though the rental is one floor of a three story house, we felt we had plenty of privacy and were made to feel at home. The house is in a darling neighborhood with numerous delicious restaurants and cute Portland bars only blocks away. We would definitely stay here again.

    Sandy2013-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Brad and Becca's place is a beautiful demonstration of responsible living-- from the verifiable fair-trade soap in the guest bathroom to the gentle reminders to turn off lights when not in use. We regret not being able to meet Brad and Becca but are thankful to them for being able to accommodate us despite our busy schedule, late hosting request, and late check-in hour. p.s. the interactive map in the guest bedroom was just great.

    Tiffany2014-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Directions to the house and instructions on how to get in were very clear. The bus stops right outside. The room was very clean and comfortable and the dog and cat were incredibly cute.

    Michael2015-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in Portland! The room was super cool and clean. We really enjoyed the location, we were always out exploring the neighborhood. Becca was very organized and very clearly communicated with us about our arrival and the amenities. We had such a great time. Street parking was super easy right outside their door. Very cool mixed media map of recommendations too!

    Kelle2015-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Brad & Becca welcomed us very kindly, like the rest of his little family. Brad & Beccas house is even more amazing than it looks in the pictures. We could us the kitchen like it was ours, had nies chattes, got great insides for Food & Drinks and just were very happy to be invited to stay with them... Thanks Brad & Becca for being so open and inviting Martin

Newly constructed in 2016, our private detached garden studio sits in the heart of a quiet residential neighborhood and is a short stroll to top restaurants, food carts, and shopping in hip SE Portland. The space is compact -- about 240sf -- but cozy, bright and a great place to unwind after a day of exploring Portland!
Our cozy studio includes a comfy queen bed, vaulted ceilings, full bathroom, kitchenette, and small sitting area. It's fully detached from the main house, so offers complete privacy. Skylights, french doors, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows provide an abundance of natural light, even on a grey, drizzly Portland day, as well as views of the west hills. It's small --about 240sf-- but the space is well utilized with many amenities such as wireless Bluetooth speaker, Portland maps and guides, and comfy pillows and blankets to make it feel like home. The space is best suited for guests seeking a cozy place to relax and recharge after a day of exploring Portland; If you're needing more of a "hangout spot," this may not be the best fit. The studio has a full bathroom with shower (no tub). The kitchenette includes a mini fridge, sink, instant hot water, coffee maker, coffee press, microwave and everything you need for reheating leftovers from the many restaurants and food carts nearby. Complementary tea and coffee are provided along with a long list of restaurant recommendations. There’s a growler available for filling, which you can do at The Imperial Bottle Shop on Division Street and at many local breweries and grocery stores nearby.
We love living in the heart of the Richmond neighborhood! Nestled on a quiet, residential street, we're a short stroll (about 1/3mi) to hip and eclectic restaurant and retail districts of SE Portland. A 4-block walk brings you to a bus stop that can get you most anywhere else in town. A short walk from the studio brings you to food, shopping and entertainment (to name a few of our favorites): PokPok, Salt & Straw, Ava Gene's, Bollywood Theater; Food Cart pods, Little T Bakery, St Honore; A myriad of boutiques, shops and independent movie theaters on Hawthorne, Clinton and Division streets. You'll likely meet some friendly neighborhood cats during your stay, but due to severe allergies, our studio is pet- and allergen-free. You may also spot our eyepatch-wearing, kung fu-performing neighbor (and good friend) practicing in the street, sometimes alongside his 4yo daughter. He’s a world-renowned martial artist and teacher, is super friendly and adds some true Portland character to our otherwise sleepy neighborhood.
  • Melissa and Brian gifted us the best experience -- they were friendly, helpful, and offered the most beautiful private studio. The location was perfect -- easy to walk to eclectic eateries and a short trip to downtown Portland. The studio was GORGEOUS. I would definitely stay here again!

    Jacqlyn2016-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Spectacular place in the perfect location. Very close to TONS of great food, drinks, and shopping. Downtown is close enough to walk and super cheap to catch the light rail or Uber. Melissa was super nice. I would 100% recommend this place.

    Austin2017-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a delightful urban oasis! Melissa's place was a beautifully appointed, light and airy cottage overlooking the lush gardens of her back yard in a quiet residential neighborhood of Southeast Portland. I would have loved to have stayed longer than I did just to treat myself to the comforts of home she provided. I loved the little touches - fresh flowers, tea, coffee, sparkling water, chocolate!, little notes to make the visit as easy as it could be. Truly a nourishing experience. Thank you Melissa!

    Julia2018-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy and convenient place to stay!! within walking distance to plenty of shops and yummy restaurants! The hosts were very accommadating and made our first trip to Portland awesome!

    Sydney2017-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • The studio is beautiful and equipped with everything you could ever need! The neighborhood is quiet and picturesque, and within walking distance to tons of yummy restaurants (Melissa has a great list of recommendations!)! As a host, Melissa is so kind and welcoming! Everything was perfect!

    Kayla2017-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our time at Melissa’s! It is really cute and as a couple of creatives we were incredibly inspired just being inside her place. We got lucky in January to have one day of blue skies and it was beautiful with all the windows! If her place were local to me I would stay there just for a creative workcation! But beyond how charming her place is, Melissa’s hospitality was incredible! Very quick to respond and on top of it all from making sure check in was smooth, to recommendations, to making sure she came out to meet us during our stay. She is awesome! The location was great! Right near plenty of great restaurants and shops! Depending on your mood it’s walkable but you are a few blocks away. If you can’t tell from this review we loved it! I think you will too!

    Corey2018-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lives up to all the 5 star reviews. Great location, easily accessible, quiet and private but also close to restaurants, shops, bars and nightlife. Would definitely return for another stay!

  • This place was great! Hosts were super nice and welcoming, everything was very neat and clean. Everything was as awesome as I expected. They left a list of plenty of amazing food places which we were able to try 3 of on our stay. Ava Gene's was our incredible and our favorite, definitely worth trying out. Our stay couldn't have been better :)

  • We stayed for two nights at Anastasia's place. Everything about this airbnb is great. It was absolutely spotless, located within walking distance to at least four restaurants, a mom and pop bar with very friendly owners/customers, hip shops, upscale shops, a bookstore, and two blocks away from all mass transit. We stayed in order to drive & access the Columbia Gorge and to just experience what urban living might be like. It met our expectations and more. I can highly recommend this airbnb to anyone, including approaching seniors as we are. Note, however, that there are some stairs to get to the appt. The Nob Hill area treated us well. We walked and walked and enjoyed every second of our stay!!

    Mary2016-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was outstanding. The location cannot be beat, parking was easy and great to have the free pass. We were able to walk to just about everything we wanted to do. Anastasia was super quick with responses and even gave us last minute restaurant recommendations. It was a wonderful short stay in Portland. I would definitely recommend staying here!

  • This is a wonderful – very spacious – bachelor suite, with all the amenities you need, and in the heart of one of Portland’s historic districts! The neighbhourhood was a treat to walk around in — beautiful homes, artisan shops and great restaurants. You’re also a stone’s throw from Blue Star donuts and Salt and Straw icecream parlour (both must eats)! The suite is also within walking distance to downtown, and is only a few minutes walk to transit (street car or bus). Anastasia was a great host – she was there to greet us when we arrived, and was available to answer any questions we had throughout our stay. She had also laid out fresh roses on the table for our arrival! We would definitely recommend and would stay there again!

  • Wonderful Airbnb. Comfortable bed, great shower, very clean and location was fantastic! Will definitely try to stay here when we come back to Portland!

    Susan2017-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for 2 nights and loved it! Great location, lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Anastasia was helpful, easy to contact and happy to give lots of advice. The apartment was a perfect size, clean and easy to find at check in. We will definitely be back and recommend staying here, it was a great find and good value!

  • Anastasia was fantastic, very timely and the unit was everything we were looking for. Would absolutely stay again!

  • We arrived a little before the room was ready, but they were willing to take our bags up to the room and store them so we could get our vacation started. The room was extremely clean and had everything we needed. Not to mention the location was awesome! Would definitely recommend staying here to anyone! This place was great! No complaints!

    Joseph2016-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Conveniently located close to public transit, restaurants, and shops in Trendy fun and safe neighbourhood. The bed was extremely comfortable and there were luxury linens and towels. The apartment was very clean and has its own temperature control. Loved the natural environmentally friendly bodywash and hand soap. We found the building itself quiet but there is early morning noise from the street and the occasional late night intoxicated patron from the pub downstairs but it wasnt really that bothersome and they have done everything possible to ensure comfort including sound resistant window coverings. We loved our little home away from home and would definately stay again!

Cute little Tiny House! It used to be our boys' fort when they were young, now it is a comfortable little retreat for adventurers exploring Portland!
Cute little back yard "granny flat" cottage located near Mt Tabor park in very desirable neighborhood! The cottage is "Portland Style" construction with excellent insulation (R30), new windows, etc.. Great host, free internet, parking, furnished living space that is quite private.. The cottage contains an upstairs bedroom & sitting area. Note: There are steep stairs, so please take that into account ~ if you have joint pain, etc. this might not be the best choice of places to stay... The QUEEN size mattress is new and comfortable. Downstairs there is a small kitchen with stove, microwave and under the counter fridge. Also downstairs is a full bath with ceramic tile shower. Coffee maker and freshly ground coffee provided in the cottage as well as complimentary muffins. At times a made to order hot breakfast is available, message me to see if it will be available during your stay :-D. Guests are welcome to use washer/dryer in main house. Guests have use of the back yard with fruit trees and some berries when in season. Also the cottage is within walking distance of Division street shops, Pizzicato pizza, the 52nd & Foster street Food Carts and much more. The # 4 bus is just a block and a half away, which can take passengers west directly downtown. The TRI-MET app or website is easy to use & can help you get you anywhere from the airport, to downtown, to Powells Books, The Chinese Garden, and so on.
South Tabor Neighborhood is a quiet eclectic little neighborhood with many avid gardners, friendly neighbors, and gobs of dog lovers. We have community get-togethers, work parties, and holiday celebrations! If you are used to neighborhoods where no one knows each other or even speaks to each other this is definitely NOT the neighborhood for you :-D
  • Great cozy little cottage in close proximity to Tabor Park. Lisa was very nice and accommodating , making me feel right at home. Loved the verdant setting, privacy and nice shower. I would definitely stay here again!

  • Such an amazing little stay for a friend and myself. Loved the comfy cute little space and would highly recommend

    Nathaniel2017-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • It was a lovely experience and I wish we could have stayed longer!! Such a beautiful little cottage and Lisa was a great host.

    Glenn2015-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • I barely saw Lisa during my stay, but her presence was certainly felt in the care she puts into this cozy and comfortable little cabin. It was clean, well-stocked, quiet and private. Best of all were the breakfasts-- generous and delicious! If I'm ever in Portland again before I move there permanently, this is where I would like to stay, no question.

  • The cottage is really adorable and a perfect size for two (and even fit our one extra four legged friend). The location was great for us--we went to nearby Mt. Tabor park one morning which has a great off leash dog area and beautiful trails and views of the city. Lisa's breakfasts are also to die for--I HIGHLY recommend the vegan burritos. Thanks again Lisa!

    Olivia2015-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa was a warm & welcoming host. The cottage was small but clean & cosy and had a nice smell. Breakfast menu had a variety of choices. It’s a nice surprise to have a small table & two chairs set up on the upper level of the cottage by the big window overlooking a green neighbourhood. We had delicious & filling breakfast made and delivered by Lisa in the morning while enjoying the serenity outside the window.

    Judy2014-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed with Lisa for 3 nights in late November and can't speak highly enough about our visit. Lisa is a tremendous host, very friendly and accommodating, and the cottage is the perfect spot for two people looking for a cozy home base for a weekend of exploring the city. Plus, there is absolutely no way you can beat the value of the breakfast she provides!! So tasty! The cottage is ideally located in the South Tabor neighbourhood which is an easy 20 minute bus ride from the heart of downtown but also just a couple stops from its own set of local shops, restaurants and bars. Be sure to check out the food truck collective around 28th Ave! So many great options. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Lisa's cottage and can't wait to come back to the Portland area.

    Keith2014-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • a cozy spot in Portland! in convenient walking distance to public transportation. Lisa was super hospitable, and her food is amazing! The cottage is homey and provides all you really need when traveling.

Seen on the TV show "Tiny House Nation", CNN, Food & Wine Magazine, and the NY Post, the 350 sq ft Rustic Modern Tiny House was designed and built by us, your friendly AirBNB hosts. Guests call it "completely charming" and "the perfect urban getaway". Welcome! M+J
For years we've been daydreaming about building a little house one day. Then we finally made it happen - using our own two hands (DIY! The Portland way!) and with the help of some great friends. We had a vision in mind, but a lot of the details came together as we built, based on what materials we had available to us. Downstairs is the kitchen, living room with convertible couch, and bathroom with tiny clawfoot tub. Access the upstairs via STAIRS (not a ladder), where you'll find our loft bedroom with comfortable queen sized bed. Sustainable design is important to us, and the house is constructed and furnished from an eclectic array of reclaimed materials - squirreled away over the years, and now creatively reused and repurposed. See photo captions for a detailed walkthrough of the house. A PARTIAL SNAPSHOT • The trim and shelves are reclaimed from an old shed that used to be on the property. • Teak hardwood flooring, cedar shake siding - salvaged from high-end construction jobs. • The wood-clad windows salvaged from a horse farm in the Oregon countryside. • The kitchenette stove/refrigerator sourced from the Hood River History Museum. Instagram: @rusticmoderntiny
We love our walk/bike friendly N. Williams Ave neighborhood - it's been getting a lot of media attention as one of Portland's hottest neighborhoods. You are one block from the main corridor, bustling with award-winning restaurants, bars, coffee shops, wine bars, bakeries, yoga studios, and indie boutiques - it seems there's something new every week. Sunset Magazine loves its “low-key urban vibe", past guests call our neighborhood "awesome", "amazing" and "full of things to do". Our street has even made an appearance or two on the TV show Portlandia.
  • What a wonderful little house! It was absolutely perfect for us as a home base to explore Portland. Great location and oh so cozy. Thanks so much for letting us stay here!

    Tyler2013-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous stay! Weather was very cold. In the morning when we woke there was snow in the garden. Michael was in touch often to made sure we were warm enough and had everything we needed. The two electric space heaters did a good job of keeping the house toasty... it is well insulated and quiet. Something we were especially grateful for was the fenced-in front yard which offered privacy from the street. Also, we prefer to cook for ourselves, so between having a New Seasons Market in the neighborhood and a kitchen to cook it all, we felt very at home. You can tell they put a lot of love into building/finishing and decorating the space. It has an easy, fun vibe. It may be a tiny house, but it doesn't feel small or cramped. We would certainly stay here again!

    Naomi2013-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our time in the Rustic Modern Tiny House. It's in a pretty, quiet neighborhood within an easy walk to restaurants and a great grocery store. It was fun staying in such a tiny and efficient house! The stairs are steeper than I expected, so I let my son take the loft and I slept on the sofa bed in the living room. Both beds were very comfortable. Guests may want to bring slippers for indoor wear, so you can keep your feet warm while respecting the "no shoes" policy.

    Michael2014-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Rustic Modern Tiny House was warm, inviting and a perfect place for a weekend trip to Portland! The tiny house decor and placement of natural light was like a dream. The location of the tiny house is also in a great spot–walkable to WIlliams and Mississppi which offers a lot food, drinks and shopping. I would definitely go back to the tiny house again!

    Lauren2014-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny home was exactly what we wanted. Michael and Jenny were attentive hosts leaving suggestions for the neighbourhood. It's small but designed perfectly with everything you need inside. When I'm back in Portland I'm definitely staying here again.

    Adam2015-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time in Portland! Jenny and Michaels home was so charming and the perfect house for our first visit to Oregon. They were more than accommodating and very helpful with travel tips. Booking with them was a breeze! We will definitely be staying at the Rustic House on our next visit!

    Sara2014-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • We booked the Rustic Modern Tiny House for our long weekend in Portland. We received detailed instructions beforehand. The house was just as described. Located on a quiet city street with easy parking. The house was pretty chilly given that it was in the 30s outside, but it warmed up after having the space heater on a for a couple of hours. It was clean and well equipped. Walking distance to several restaurants and a 10 minute drive to downtown, 5 minute drive to shops on Alberta Street. Wound highly recommend this tiny house for someone looking for a unique experience in a unique city.

    Eric2015-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for three days in the tiny house and it was a pleasure. The house has so much character, and the kitchen had everything I needed to make a nice breakfast. We are hoping to build ourselves a tiny house in the future. My sister's house was only a 20 minute walk, so we felt like real Portlanders for three days! We enjoyed the restaurants that were near by, especially the ice cream place! We hope to come back next year!

This space will make you feel cozy and right at home! A bright and well appointed tiny house located in Northeast Portland. Just steps from some of the best restaurants in all of Portland. The Alberta Arts district is just a few blocks away with cafes, pubs and local shopping. There are unique neighborhood amenities, such as the soaking pool and movie theater at the Kennedy School. For more photos and neighborhood info, visit: @portlandtinyhouse on Instagram.
We put a lot of love into Portland Tiny House. The space includes warm wood flooring, ceramic tiling, modern decor and special vintage touches. The house has a very comfortable Tuft and Needle queen sized bed, bathroom, kitchenette equipped for cooking light meals and cozy counter seating for two. Coffee, tea, fresh eggs and Portland travel guides provided. Need anything else?...just let us know! (2 guests with a small child may sometimes be accommodated)
Guests are a block away from Portland's most popular and notable restaurants: DOC, Beast, Autentica, Dame, Expatriate, Wilder and Yakuza Lounge. The house is within walking distance to the local New Seasons Market and the Alberta Arts District with shops/restaurants/art galleries and the hugely popular Last Thursday monthly arts festival. You certainly won't want to miss all of the wonderful shops and restaurants up on Alberta Street. There are many popular restaurants that often have a line to get in (yes...they are THAT good!) like Pine State Biscuits, Salt and Straw Ice Cream, The Grilled Cheese Grill and the Bollywood Theater. Lots of vegan dining as well: Vita Cafe, Back to Eden Bakery and the Bye and Bye Pub. So many wonderful options, we usually have a hard time deciding what to pick! Just around the corner: Walk a block up to enjoy hand-crafted morning coffee at Extracto or breakfast at Cup & Saucer. Drop in to take a yoga class at The People's Yoga studio. Hunt for fun vintage finds at Red Fox Vintage. Or you can explore the McMenamins Kennedy School: a historic elementary school re-purposed as a hotel (including a movie theater, soaking pool ($5 for a relaxing soak), restaurants and pubs). There are two parks within walking distance from the tiny house, Alberta Park and Fernhill Park. Peninsula Park is also a quick jaunt from the tiny house and it boasts a beautiful, seasonal rose garden that is often less crowded than the well known International Rose Test Garden in the West hills.
  • I had an excellent time staying at the Portland Tiny House. Everything was as described and there was even a card welcoming me upon arrival.

    Alexis2016-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house was a gem! We loved D & G's attention to every detail. Almost like a little curated installation. The location was so fun. We were lucky enough that our stay overlapped with their block party which was so fun to see! Great neighborhood and growing community and easily accessible to more. The bed was super cozy and all the amenities in the house were perfectly chosen. Bummed we didn't get a chance to enjoy eggs from the coupe, but next time!

  • Genevieve, Duston and Sophie, Thank you for so thoughtfully sharing your tiny house with us. We loved the small touches you've put into your home. It's so apparent that the tiny house is a labor of love. It was the perfect location and near some of the most family friendly restaurants we've been to which definitely made our stay at Portland very enjoyable. The eggs were delicious- you're right it's going to be hard to go back to store bought eggs. Audrey enjoyed the maracas and made her first art work on the etchsketch. Thank you for sharing your lovely home. It was a pleasure meeting you both! We'll definitely keep you folks in mind when we pay another visit to Portland! Thank you! Henry, Shirley and Audrey (11 mos)

  • The Tiny House is everything that it appears to be, and then some. The space is very inviting, relaxing and expertly decorated. The second you enter the gate you feel as though you're staying with your favorite relative, you know, the one with great taste. Book your stay here, now. Don't just favorite the Tiny House and come back to it later. Book it now. As for the hosts...Duston and Genevieve were extremely accommodating and provided us with excellent recommendations for nearby restaurants. Our only negative from our entire trip was that we were too exhausted from a day spent hiking to enjoy the fire pit with them. The next time we're in Portland, we won't make that mistake!

    Ty2015-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • The place was perfect! Easy access, quiet, well-located neighborhood, super friendly and communicable hosts...and what can I say about the tiny house? Well constructed and super cute. Great experience, would stay again in a heartbeat. Thanks!

    Jeff2015-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • It was the perfect place for my husband and I.

    Britt2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Tiny House was a pure treat! It had everything we needed, and pleasantly only what we needed. It was easy to find and get to. Very clean! Beautifully acquainted and thoughtfully set up. The bed was cozy, the book and magazine collection was helpful in guiding our spontaneous adventures, and the fresh eggs were a delight! We would love to come back to this friendly city and stay in the Tiny House again!

    Starr2017-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Duston and Genevieve's tiny house was a perfect retreat for me after a busy week in Seattle. The house was clean and felt spacious because of the well laid out design and high ceilings. The bed was incredibly comfortable and warm... I loved waking up in the morning to the soft filtered light streaming in through the windows. The bathroom was a comfortable size and the kitchen, while small, had everything I needed to make a simple breakfast of tea and eggs from their chicken coop! I could tell that Duston and Genevieve put great care into creating an inviting home for their guests. There were thoughtful amenities throughout the home, from handmade ceramic mugs to a little handy basket of toiletries. The wifi was strong and I had all the privacy I needed. The location was in close walking distance to Alberta where you could find so many great restaurants and little boutiques. Thank you both for a great stay. Next time I come to Portland I hope that I'll be able to stay again!

  • Great location for SE Portland. Everything in the house was clean and well organized. Ed and Sari were easy to get a hold of and provided a lot of great information.

  • Great little spot, attached to a residence but very secluded. Great spot for a weekend get away or just a quick trip into town. You'll want to stay here if you don't plan to spend a ton of time inside, good price and close to a lot of Portland mainstays.

    Lucas2017-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely as wonderful as described and reviewed. Secluded little getaway and yet a short walk (but through the beautiful residential neighborhood peppered with views of the city!) to restaurants and shops. Exactly what we were looking for in a Portland excursion. Thank you!

    N Rose2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place to stay and explore Portland! There is so much good food and bars in and around Ed and Sari's place, we were in food heaven during our stay! I would totally recommend staying here if you are heading to Portland :)

Experience the best Portland has to offer from a private studio in a lush, backyard garden. Our beautiful, eco-home on a quiet street is conveniently located in Southeast Portland's best and most walkable neighborhood.
Chosen as one of Portland's 10 best Airbnb rentals by Portland Monthly Magazine, it's hard to find a better deal. Tucked between Hawthorne and Division, you’ll have easy access to award-winning restaurants, movie theaters, coffee shops, parks, and so much more. Our 1909 built home is clean, tranquil, and truly unique. Previously featured on Portland's Build it Green home tour. The one-room light-filled studio is perfect for a single or couple. It has a comfortable full-sized bed with nice linens, a small table and chairs, coat and luggage racks (there is no closet), and a place to sit and read while you enjoy complimentary tea and coffee. Whatever season you are visiting Portland in, you will find the studio to be quite comfortable. It stays nice and cool in the warmer months with a ceiling fan, and the convection heater keeps it warm in the winter. Beautiful photography, by a local artist, graces the walls.
  • Staying with Joelle and James in their beautiful garden studio was such a unique experience. First off they're both so lovely - there when you need them and great to chat with but for the most part it felt like I had the place to myself. The studio was fantastic, private, and charming. You couldn't ask for a better location, sandwiched into two of Portland's major streets. My only regret - not using the outdoor claw tub!

    Shadi2014-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first experience using "airbnb" and we couldn't be happier. Joelle and James were lovely hosts and made our stay so pleasant. Their Urban Garden Studio is absolutely delightful and the lush garden that surrounds it is truly an oasis. My husband took a hot bath outside with his morning coffee! The bathroom in the house that was for our private use was beautiful. Finally, their neighborhood is a gem too and we could walk everywhere, which was great. What a perfect introduction to "airbnb", a wonderful way to see the world!

    Stephanie2014-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, unique studio space and home, warm hosts who offer information and recommendations about the surrounding area; thoughtful touches like homemade treats and handwritten notes; a neighborhood walkable to fantastic restaurants, cafes, ice cream, and shopping; couldn’t ask for more! Would highly recommend!

    Angeli2018-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Flegals were fantastic! The space is absolutely lovely, surrounded by lush greenery and the chance to relax after a long day of traveling. As specified, the locale is prime, as its close to nightlife and restaurants (two blocks!). The Flegals were also extremely accommodating and respectful of our space there. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet and beautiful space in Portland!

    Byron2013-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place to stay! The studio is very comfortable, and the bed is excellent! I slept like a baby! It is in a great, very walkable area. I didn't get to meet James, but Joelle was very nice and helpful. I had a lovely time there and will stay again if I get a chance! Thank you Joelle!

    Patty2014-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Patiently awaiting our arrival, Joelle welcomed us with a speedy tour of their home and our garden studio so that we could begin exploring Portland's Hawthorne District in short order. Food was the priority that first evening and Joelle's recommendations were 'spot on'!! As an avid gardener, to be able to vacation in someone's garden sanctuary . . . words can't adequately describe this delightful garden setting! An oasis of sorts and just completely satisfactory in all manner of things. The neighborhood is quite a treat with attractive homes and gardens -- walking distance to fabulous food and fun shops.

    JoAnne2014-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • The absolute best experience! We only had the pleasure of meeting Joelle once upon arrival, but James was around more to provide local insights and share mutual interests. We awoke to glorious home-made raspberry bars which were utterly the best we've ever had. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the space so cozy and cute. We felt very at home, very quickly. And the location just can't be beat. Walking distance to Hawthorne and Division streets, a multitude of eating and shopping options just a hop and a skip away. If we come back to Portland in the future, We will definitely be revisiting the beautiful garden studios!

    Tanya2015-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at James' and Joelle's garden studio! The space was beautiful, the hosts were full of helpful Portland tips, and the location can't be beat. The neighborhood is full of delicious restaurants and food trucks, as well as unique shops, bars, coffee shops, and the Bagdad Theatre. The studio is quiet and cozy, and we woke up to fresh raspberry bars each morning. We highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting wonderful Portland!

Nestled in the private backyard of our family home, a neighborhood hub. The round, rustic, romantic MudHut hides in a secret garden overlooking the St. Johns bridge and sparkling river, near Cathedral Park, Forest Park, downtown St. Johns, canoe and hiking trails... Firepit, permaculture gardens, loaner bikes, community life, view!
Our hut was handbuilt by family, friends, and community with great love and serves as a guesthouse, homeschool hut, sauna and sanctuary. Wood-heated and candle-lit, it's a tranquil, rustic sleeping space. I recommend staying two nights for an immersive experience in the relaxing atmosphere.
We're in St. Johns, Portland's northern-most neighborhood and a small town of its own with a strong community identity here. Many families here trace their roots back to James John, the pioneer founder of St. Johns who is memorialized all over the neighborhood. Downtown St. Johns is a few blocks away, with plenty of restaurants (Thai, vegan, soulfood, chinese, pub grub, pizza, deli, breakfast, coffee & gelato), an old movie theater and shopping (lots of vintage). Cathedral Park, three blocks away, is gorgeous and photogenic with access to the Willamette River and the awesome overhead presence of the gothic St. Johns Bridge that you can see from the hut. We're also close to a lot of natural areas for urban hiking and paddling. Forest Park, full of trails and old growth forest, is right across the bridge. Just north of here is Kelley Point Park, the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers; Smith and Bybee Lakes, a wetlands for birding and paddling; and Sauvie Island, with beaches, farms, nurseries, hiking, fishing, & birding. We're on the Pacific migratory fly-way, so lots of raptor action around here. Bald eagles, peregrine falcons and hawks swoop by regularly.
  • The mud hut was an interesting experience. My wife and I stayed there for our anniversary. This was the first time either of us had spent any length of time in Portland. I have to say it was certainly a unique experience. The hut itself was pretty cool. I was impressed with the handiwork of it. My wife was in love with the view, spending quite a bit of time sitting and enjoying the view of the St. Johns bridge. The hut wasn't so comfortable that we spent all our time there. We got out and explored the city, visiting the Rose Test Garden in Washington Park (among other areas) and sampling the local food. We discovered later that Portland was experiencing among the worst pollen count in the country during our stay. Despite this (and my wife's sniffles) we had a great time. Thanks for your hospitality, Ivy!

    Chad2015-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was even better than we expected. The hut was cozy and the bed was comfortable. Ivy and her family made us feel very welcome. It was experience we will not forget.

    Marilyn2014-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Surprised my boyfriend with this wonderful little hut for our anniversary and it was more wonderful than I could have imagined! Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and shown around their spectacular property (hot tub, view of the bridge, fresh raspberries). We arrived in the middle of a very hot day and when we walked into the mud hut it was shocking cooler, very comfortable to be in. Ivy was available via text if we needed her. While it is a pretty small space it was amazingly cozy to sleep in. Would highly recommend to anyone passing through the area!

    Chloe2015-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • I loved the location of Ivy's cozy mud hut with big bridge view even though I visited Southwest Portland each day. The mud hut is all 'about the candles.' I also found a friend in her ginger and tumeric brew!

    Lisa2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wow. I wish I could paint a picture of my experience at the Mud Hut. Ivy's home is a mystical oasis in a conveniently private location. Every twist and turn of her land, which she has clearly invested so much effort in restructuring, holds an exquisite angle of beauty. Lighting the candles at night inside of the hut had me feeling like I was in a spiritual temple of my own, and the view of the St. John's Bridge was a gem in itself. Ivy is extremely welcoming and accommodating. She even set up the hot tub so I could enjoy it in the rain, and what a treat that was!

    Jackelyn2013-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Ivy, but she had everything set up waiting for me. She gave me a short note describing the place and where everything was, so I felt right at home. The listing description was accurate. The neighborhood seemed easy going and there was a good sense of community - people were enjoying themselves at a music festival at the nearby park under the bridge.

  • This was my first experience with airbnb and it was incredible. I only stayed here for one night with my boyfriend on our way through Portland on a road trip. This is a very special spot for anyone who enjoys an eclectic and earthy vibe. Her cat Potato will go down in history as one of the sweetest kitties I've ever met. The hot tub and fire pit added to the lovely experience as well.

  • Please come and visit this place, it is cute and comfortable. To me this is a new experience and would definitely recommend to anyone this place to stay. Outside pretty views, candle lit setting, close to the city for exploring. I cannot thank Ivy enough.

Enjoy Portland in our beautiful, modern guest house. You will be located in a quiet neighborhood nestled between the heart of downtown St Johns and the University of Portland.
Hello! We have a 600 sq. ft, bright, modern guest house tucked away behind our main house. During your stay you will have access to a fully stocked kitchen including: coffee and 3 ways to brew it, microwave, range, refrigerator, toaster, dishware, pots & pans, and baking goods. The space is loaded with windows which lets in a lot of natural light. The lofted area has a queen size bed, large closet, desk area and full bathroom. The space is ideal for 2 people, but it could certainly work for 3. There's a twin blow-up mattress or the couch for the third person. The house is filled with reclaimed wood, handcrafted light fixtures and artistic touches - make sure to check out all of the pictures!
We are located in the University Park neighborhood of Portland - about 1 mile away of the downtown St Johns neighborhood and 1 mile away from the the University of Portland The University Park neighborhood is within walking distance, or a short drive, to parks - including Cathedral Park - bars, food carts, coffee shops, restaurants, a fitness center (Westcoast Fitness) a farmers market (only runs during the summer months), antique/thrift stores, and various other shops. Forest Park, Portland's largest park that's filled with hiking and biking trails, is located 1.5 miles away, directly across the St. Johns Bridge. Please note: Our house is not located within walking distance of downtown Portland!
  • I truly enjoyed staying in Heidi and Marenda's place! The house is amazing. It has everything you and more. And the décor is gorgeous!

    Johanna2017-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • Heidi and Marenda's place is awesome. They gave us great recommendations for the area. We went out a lot but two nights we cooked in just because their place was so cozy we didn't want to leave. I would definitely stay there again!

    Heather2017-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Your place was absolutely incredible. Every detail was so beautifully thought out. It was comfy and cozy and had everything we could possibly need. You two were so sweet in leaving us blueberries and yogurt and granola and coffee! We will definitely be back!

    Nick2015-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Heidi and Marenda's place was perfect for our first trip to Portland. The loft house is very well designed and fully appointed. It was stocked with nice linens and a comfy bed . The kitchen was fully equipped. Located in a quiet neighborhood with shops nearby. Great folks to deal with. Highly recommended!

    James2016-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Heidi and Marenda's loft is lovely. It's full of good light and energy. Super duper clean and modern, with a great kitchen, bathroom, cozy throws and furniture. We cooked most of our meals there, and just took it easy. They were also very friendly and promptly answered my questions. We would absolutely recommend this place to anyone visiting Portland.

    Gretchen2016-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place was adorable and had everything we needed. Loved hearing the rainfall on the skylight windows (it rains in Portland!) and overall cleanliness of the space. It felt very private but still loved seeing the owner's dogs in the yard. It was a bit of a drive from the city center (10 Minutes) and hiking trails (20 minutes) but well worth it! Highly recommend this space! ps - great guidebooks of Portland scattered around the house.

    Katie2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this place. Very beautifully designed, fully stocked, not cluttered, very comfortable, and everything feels very new and modern but cozy at the same time. There are even memory foam pillows! This loft was designed for guests and they have books with recommendations for tourists. Absolutely loved it, would highly recommend.

    Candace2016-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • They made us feel welcome by responding to my email/text questions. The directions were easy to follow. The flowers in the kitchen and the plants around the place made for a beautiful touch. The loft was exactly as described on Airbnb. The neighborhood was nice and quiet, and it felt safe.

Brand spanking new, beautiful, modern addition built on our ranch house.
Our 425 square foot addition is brand new (finished 2015) - immaculately designed, gorgeous and a perfect place to stay during your time in Portland. It has a pellet stove for delightful ambiance (and heating), it's own entrance, a blow-up air mattress (for a third guest) and a patio. Stay in a place completely Portland, powered by solar panels, built environmentally friendly, sitting on a major bike street and a couple blocks from the MAX light rail.
Our house is within 2 miles of the fantastic north and north east neighborhoods of Williams, Mississippi and Alberta. There are dozens of restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance and I leave a list of our local favorites in the house.
  • Great place! Very private and close to a lot of restaurants and coffee shops! Would definitely stay again.

    Autumn2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • I loved my stay at The Addition! The entire place was very spacious for the two of us, the bathroom was great and the front room was super-convenient. The location was awesome, especially. It was one of the easiest places to find so far on AirBnb. Joseph's instructions made it very simple :) Would definitely stay again if in Portland.

    Kaylee2016-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • Cute, bright, spacious, clean & private. This is a great space. Communicative host, easy parking & some nice restaurants within walking distance. We couldn’t have asked for more. Kinda want to stay there next time we’re in Portland.

    Jilian2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Joseph's place was super comfortable and it was perfect for our stay in Portland. We particularly liked all the books on Portland in the living room space and all the natural lighting from outside.

    Christina2017-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had a great time staying at the addition. The location was about a 5 minute drive to the famous Mississippi area and about a 15 minute walk. The Alberta district was also within a close distance, about a 10 minute drive. Joe and his wife were attentive and generous. We only saw Joe one time while on our 5 night stay however he was in communication with us and we felt comfortable reaching out to him. The addition looks exactly as advertised and everything was clean and cozy. Overall a great place to stay if you want an awesome introduction to the portland area. We would definitely stay there again!

    Ariana2016-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a super cute guest home that is very environmentally efficient as well! Everything about this spot is cool.

    Marissa2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay! The place was easy to access and had a nice private entrance. The addition was clean with a modern look and I loved the eco-friendly features! Also loved that they supplied some basic amenities and toiletries. Would gladly stay here again!

Inner SE Portland is an established older mixed use residential urban neighborhood with narrow streets, sidewalks, single family houses, apartments and schools. The main corridor -Division Street- has been experiencing moderate retail and service re-development which has energized the neighborhood with a wide range of restaurants and food-cart vendors as well as natural food markets and coops, and boutiques. Overall livability is excellent as public transport and bike lanes are accessible and convenient. In summary, there is: public transportation, retail, restaurants, markets, bakeries, parks, rose gardens, nightlife, theaters, and live entertainment within walking distance and/or a few minutes ride.
  • My girlfriend and I a stayed at Kurt and Nathalie's for 4 nights and agreed that this was by far the best Airbnb we have stayed in. We were greeted by Kurt who immediately gave us some local suggestions and made sure we had everything we needed to start our stay. The apartment is in a great location- easily walkable to restaurants and bars and quiet in the evenings. The apartment came fully stocked with snacks and light breakfast essentials which we enjoyed each morning. While maintaining total privacy, Kurt and Nathalie were easily reached and incredibly friendly. We absolutely recommend their apartment!

Our studio guest house comfortably sleeps two and features a mini kitchen and private bath. Walk through the garden to your private entrance. Curl up by the fire and enjoy one of the art books from our library. Walk to nearby Alberta Arts District.
With two small children at home, we have found little time to paint in the second floor of the studio building at the rear of our property. Come and enjoy this lovely space! It features high ceilings, ample light, a wood stove (with back-up electric heat), views of the surrounding gardens, a large table and a drafting table to spread out and work on, and an art book library. The kitchenette is equipped with a sink, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and electric kettle. It does not have a cook top or oven or toaster. We provide coffee and tea. The bathroom features a shower stall and an eco-toilet that collects water from hand washing to use on the next flush. With summer temperatures rising, we recently added an AC window unit for our guests comfort. We offer a full bed with a seven inch Ikea spring mattress and a two inch memory-foam topper. Our guests report that the room is surprisingly quiet at night. Please note we do not have a TV; however, our wifi is fast enough to watch movies or shows on your personal device.
I love this place. This is a residential neighborhood with a wide cross section of racial and economic diversity, a lot of the old 'hood funkiness still intact, plus newer hipster creativity and some higher-end business activity. Expect to see a mix of dilapidated buildings and newer or rejuvenated construction. We feel safe at night, however I do advise women to be wary about walking alone at night, particularly if you don't have much street smarts. We are within easy walking distance of Alberta Street Co-op, coffee shops, restaurants, bars and other businesses. The post office, laundromat, Safeway and Walgreens are very close by as well.
  • The Artists Garden Retreat was amazing! It was very bright and open and very clean. We felt right at home and very comfortable during our stay. The kitchen area is very nice as well with plenty of room to make your meals during your times eating in. It is all there and amazing but most of your time should be spent in the Alberta district only a short walk away. It is a really great neighborhood with lots to do and amazing food. We had a great time and would love to stay here again!

    Zach2015-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • The appartment was extremely nice, clean and beautifully arranged. Communicating with Nell was very easy, checking in and out very simple. The place is in a ten minutes walking distance of a nice area with restaurants, coffee shops and bars.

    Alexandra2014-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Nell's place was beautiful: very clean, private, and thoughtfully furnished with everything you could need. It was in a gentrifying urban residential neighborhood, within ten minutes' walk of great restaurants and shops. Nell communicated quickly and helpfully by text and email. For anyone arriving in the evening, be aware that it was hard to spot the house number. The back unit (the rental) itself is well-illuminated, but we had to look a bit to be sure that we had the right house. (We didn't want to contact Nell to ask, as she asks that you not do so after 8pm.)

    Penelope2015-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at the artist studio! We were inspired by the artwork and atmosphere. We felt like we had privacy and also in such a great neighbourhood. Of all the places we stayed in Portland this was our favourite!

    Erin 2016-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time staying at the Artist's Garden Retreat! It was perfect for what we needed. We spent a long weekend up in Portland for a little vacation. Only about a 15-20 min drive from the airport, downtown and some amazing hiking trails! I was able to meet both of the hosts and they were very kind and willing to help out with anything we needed. The apartment was beautiful and makes you feel at home. The fireplace is a great touch! It was so nice to come back after a long day of activities and curl up next to the fire. This was my first time ever using Airbnb, I was extremely pleased with how it worked out. I have been recommending it to many friends and co-workers since! I would stay here again in a heartbeat! (:

    Kelsey2016-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place is very cozy and cool. I wish I had a sweet separate studio like this.

    Alex2016-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • What can I say - this is my second time staying at the Artist's Garden Retreat and it's a sweet little spot. The open, light feeling is fantastic. Last night, on a warm summer evening, there was a nice cross breeze coming through the windows and, along with the ceiling fan, it was very pleasant. Always a good sleep. I('ll be back when I need another overnight in Portland. It's a doable walk to Alberta District down 15th.

    Rich2015-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • The fire place was amazing, I had a great time staying there. It was close enough to everything but far enough away to enjoy the quiet.

This private studio is truly one of a kind. Surrounded by natural beauty, this exquisitely-crafted and light-filled space is conveniently located to downtown and desired neighborhoods via car, light-rail, bus or bike. Truly a retreat in the city. City Permit #(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)-HO
This is an entirely private space on a large lush lot in Portland. It is surrounded by tall evergreens and a beautiful garden. It was built with hardwoods and has several skylights which provide both light (during the day) and a view of the sky and stars during the night. There is a small kitchen with a stove top, toaster oven and refrigerator. The tall ceilings, woodwork, and stonework make you feel like you are in a modern cabin situated in nature even though you are just 5 miles from downtown--which can be easily accessed by bus or train. Relax in our hammock, or spend time in the outdoor sauna.
North Tabor is a quiet neighborhood with big lots, wide roads and lots of trees. We are less than a 10 minute drive to downtown Portland and there are some great restaurants, coffee shops and a brewery within walking distance.
  • This is a great place to stay - So beautiful, comfortable, easy! We loved the whole thing - loft bed, wood stove, quiet location, lovely yard. We enjoyed our stay very much.

    Heidi2016-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place! Enjoyed setting and the decor.

    Cassandra2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay to explore Portland and surrounding area without being in the hustle and bustle of the city. The place was very clean and had the amenities needed. I was disappointed that there wasn't any coffee or tea offered as I've seen at all other airbnb stays I've been to. Otherwise, the bed was comfortable, the fire stove was a nice feature, and the home was beautiful. Even outside of downtown, there are plenty of local restaurants to visit. I'd suggest this place to others!

    Kelli2018-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Jill and Donnella were so welcoming the whole time we were there! They were full of ideas for things to do and places to eat. The location is great and super close to downtown, we never had any issues getting around. We also felt very safe in this location. The Urban Retreat is awesome! We loved climbing into the loft at night for bed :) it's the perfect size and in a beautiful garden in the back. We will definitely stay here if we go back to Portland in the future. Thank you Jill and Donnella!

  • Lovely time, quiet, peaceful, and memorable!

    Thomas2018-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Jill's tiny home was perfect for our Portland weekend. It did not feel small at all and it had everything we needed. It was $10-15 Uber away from downtown which was perfect and the Fred Meyer down the street was also super convenient. It was raining our entire trip but it sounded so nice on all the skylights in the place. Will definitely book this place again!

    Ryan And Julia2016-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Jill's Urban Retreat was perfect for my wife and me. The studio guest house was very cozy. It had a rustic cabin feel, as it was surrounded by trees and plant life. The house was very clean. The location, relative to the Portland sites, was great. The drive time to most of the areas we wanted to visit was quick and easy to get to. We didn't get chance to engage with Jill, as we were out and about, but did get a friendly smile and a wave when we arrived. Having said that, we felt like we had a lot of privacy. And it almost felt like we were staying in our own home. For our very first AirB&B experience, it was perfect.

  • Paul was an absolutely brilliant host and the apartment was lovely. Everything was perfect, a really large studio that easily hosted 3 of us. Paul is a great guy with good knowledge of the area, and makes it feel like he genuinely loves his city. Highly recommended!

NEW MURPHY BED w/ comfy mattress. Great little tiny house in a fantastic neighborhood. It is cozy and modern. It's a tiny, stand alone house with a private bathroom, but no real kitchen. Short Term Rental Permit Numb (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) -HO
Brand new, tiny-home style house. 200 sq ft. Covered porch. Full bath with standing tile shower. Full-size wall bed "Murphy bed" installed December 2015. Bamboo floors & reclaimed wood stairs. No kitchen, but has a microwave for heating up leftovers, water, or popcorn. Wifi. This is one block off Mississippi Ave, with many bars, restaurants, and one of the best coffee shops (Fresh Pot) in Portland. A block away from Amnesia Brewing and Grand Central bakery. 10 minute walk from the Yellow Line MAX (Overlook station.) Mississippi Studios is right down the street- a fantastic venue for local and traveling bands.
  • We enjoyed our stay in the little pink house. It was a super cute place and close to Mississippi Avenue and bus stops. We were able to use the bus system to get everywhere in Portland.

    Carrie2014-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • My cousin & I spent 2 nights in the pink house. It is so cozy & cute. The heaters worked so well as it got a bit chilly, we learned the fan in the bathroom also heats so that was great. The neighborhood has everything you could need, the Grand Bakery down the street was a morning routine for coffee & pastries. Evening hours the parking did get a little scarce with everyone enjoying the bars & shops in the neighborhood, but we managed. There was a cute neighborhood cat that would stop by to say hello and people were very friendly. House was clean and welcoming, has all the basics you might need.

    michele2014-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Cute and cozy little spot a block off Mississippi st. I can't describe how much fun it was exploring this stretch of road especially later in the evening. Plenty of restaurants to satiate most any food craving and the night life was even better. Personally, I like having a few late night cocktails and this place was it. We will certainly be back, the little pink house was fun and the bathroom is pretty neat too, we didn't expect it to be so big either.

    Joe2015-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Little Pink house was absolutely perfect. Both beds were very comfortable, there were plenty of clean linens, and there was more than enough space for two people. The small fridge and microwave are perfect for reheating delicious PDX food cart leftovers, and the bathroom was immaculate and very spacious. Rick was more than accommodating and communicative - I would recommend anyone to stay at this listing!

    Kellee2013-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the little pink house! When we arrived, the rain had just finished and there was literally a rainbow in the sky directly above the pink house... which we took to be a good omen. We were right. The interior is microscopically small, yes—but it's well designed and immaculate. The bathroom is surprisingly large for a teensy tiny house, and very modern. Neighborhood is funky and eclectic, and reminded us of "Portlandia" episodes (in a good way). Check out the gourmet food trucks up the street. Highly recommended.

    Stacey2014-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Totally affordable and perfect amount of space for a couple. My favorite places to shop and get coffee are so close, plus my next favorite neighoborhoods, downtown and east portland are less than 10 minutes away by car. Perfect for couples. Love staying here.

    George2017-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Rick is an excellent host. When we arrived around midnight on the first night, we were unable to access the unit with the code Rick gave us due to a cleaning service snafu. We stayed somewhere else for the night, but Rick contacted us immediately the next day, apologized for the mistake, and offered a full refund, whether we stayed the second night or not. Rick's willingness to take responsibility for the problem and issue a refund makes him a great host. The house is very charming, with a great porch, but it is indeed tiny. The house's only sink is in the bathroom and the bed is a less-comfortable fold-out sofa bed which practically eliminates the house's floorspace when opened. Staying there as a couple for more than a night or two would be trying. For the night we stayed, though, we had a lovely teeny-tiny time.

  • We had an excellent time! The house was perfectly situated so that we were able to enjoy the Mississippi neighborhood but not be bothered by the noise of the bars and restaurants.

Our home is beautifully situated across from a quiet park. We are located just a couple blocks walk to restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and bus stops on trendy Hawthorne and Division streets.
Our one bedroom, 500 square-foot basement apartment is lovingly decorated in the Northwest Style with touches of Scandinavia. The apartment has separate entrance for your privacy. The bedroom has a queen bed with cozy, fluffy featherbed comforters. The living room has a sofa that converts to double bed with bedding provided. We have a little kitchenette with sink, refrigerator, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker with complimentary coffee. The bathroom has a bath/shower combo with all the essentials provided. We have a television that picks up a few stations, but we do not have cable. Our location is ideal for foodies who want to walk to popular restaurants on SE Hawthorne and SE Division streets. We are directly across the street from a park. The Hawthorne bus (#14) is just 1.5 blocks away and will get you downtown within 10 minutes. We also are walking distance to grocery stores, movie theaters, shops, breweries and pubs. Our neighborhood is quiet at night, so we ask that there be no noise after 10:00pm. We are an early-to-bed, early-to-rise family (up at 5:00am) so you may hear us above in the morning.
We are ideally situated between the popular Hawthorne and Division streets. We are 2.5 blocks from the nearest bus stop and are walking distance to shops, restaurants, grocery stores, movie theaters. Best of all we are located right across the street from a park. There is ample parking as well.
  • Jennifer was a very good host. She was very accommodating when we had to stay an extra night because of a snow storm. The place is very cozy with room for 3 people--one bed and a pullout couch. There is a keurig to make coffee and a fridge and microwave. This place has everything you need to be comfortable and the location is great. Very cute neighborhood, right across the street from a park with plenty of parking. I would highly recommend staying with Jennifer!

    Katie2017-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer's spot was perfect for us -- great location near a bunch of shops and food that we wanted to check out. It was super clean and a perfect basement apartment with a comfy bed and everything else you'd need. Check-in / out was easy and Jennifer was very communicative. Thanks!

  • Beautiful, clean space with an awesome location. We didn’t stay long, but we loved our time here!

    Karen2018-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a nice stay at Jennifer's. The apartment is comfy and the bathroom is clean and nice. It is situated right in between Hawthorne and Division, two pretty lively and cool streets, but the neighbourhood is still very quiet at night !

    Clara2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect for what we needed. We stayed one night in Portland and opted to stay outside of the downtown area. Jennifer was very responsive and accommodating. Instructions she provided prior to arrival were very clear and I had no issues accessing the place. The neighborhood is great and provided a quiet area for sleeping, but we also had an easy walk to one of two main streets for dinner and drinks. We were also able to park on the driveway which made loading/unloading a breeze. The place itself was great for our group of 3. It was welcoming, impeccably clean, and had all the amenities we needed and more. The bed and the couch were both comfortable places to sleep. Happy that the bedroom was closed off to offer privacy, which sometimes isn’t available in MIL-type places. Overall, this was an amazing place especially for the price and would highly recommend!

    Stephanie2018-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • This "private room" is more like a small apt. It was a great size for 2 unrelated adults. All of the previous reviewers summed up all the great things about the unit and the neighborhood, so I won't repeat them, but I second all of them. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

    Denise2017-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a nice place! Very clean! Loved the shower! Close enough to walk to the Main Street for food and shops

    Shaylee2017-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a great value, safe and lovely location, kind and responsive host, and just overall wonderful! I highly recommend booking this place as you won't regret it!

  • Roger and his partner were very friendly and welcoming. I felt safe and secure and the rental was very clean and close to the bus stop which was awesome for me since I was on foot. The yard is nicely kept and clean too. The neighborhood was quiet. The rental was also stocked with lots of local pamphlets on where to eat or what to do around portland. I will definitely stay again or recommend rogers rental to friends and family I know going there.

  • I'm an avid traveler, and this is one of the best experiences I've had. The little house is extremely clean (feels new), and is lovely in a sweet and homey way. Roger and Josh made me feel very comfortable, offering to provided whatever I need, while at the same time giving me lots of space (since I was using this trip as a mini solitude retreat). The area where the main house is located is residential. However, because the cottage sits in the back of the house and has a beautifully landscaped yard (lush area) it feels like you're in the forest; so quiet and peaceful. I also liked that I was only 6 miles form downtown Portland, with access to Interstate 5 only a block away.

    Migdalia2014-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I could not be more pleased with our experience at Roger's place. Upon arrival the back house was impeccably clean, with all the necessary accompaniments provided. The property is located in a very quiet, secluded, and super safe neighborhood in SW Portland, only 10 minutes from the city center by car. Additionally, they allowed us to park in the main driveway, so parking was never a hassle. For us the location was great, given that after a long day in the city, it was quite nice to retreat to a quiet neighborhood home. The place provided us with more than enough space and anything we could need to make our stay comfortable. On our first day Roger and Josh came out to meet us for a quick chat and reiterated that they were available by phone or email should we need anything from them. For us, they provided the perfect balance of making us feel welcome, while still allowing us the privacy that we were looking for on our vacation. If you are looking for something similar to what I have described, you would be hard-pressed to find anything better.

    Christopher2014-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Roger's guesthouse for three nights. Very comfortable with all amenities in lovely surroundings and a quiet safe neighborhood. Driveway parking was so helpful. Roger is very kind and helpful - a wonderful host! I highly recommend this spot - easy to get to main highways and thoroughfares.

    Cheryl 2015-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Roger made the check in process very easy as this was my first experience with air b and b. He kept in constant communication over email and even offered me complimentary early check in as our flight came in early. The house was very comfortable and in a quiet location. Unfortunately, we had to check out a day early because of a family emergency. Roger was so accommodating that he gave us a partial refund for having to check out early. The next time we are in Portland I will definitely look him up!

    Khanh2016-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay with Roger! He made sure we felt welcomed and was available if we ever needed anything, yet at the same time he gave us our space and privacy. The studio was perfect space for my husband and I. Very clean. Near everything in Portland, yet away from the craziness in the city.

    Sierra2014-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Another perfect stay -- this time for 11 nights -- last time was in June 2014 (see prior review also). An excellent location with superb privacy -- in a studio that is perfectly equipped and has superbly comfortable bed. I'll look forward to staying again when my travels bring me back to Portland.

    Noel2015-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • Roger was very accommodating leading up to my stay. Even when my travel arrangements caused me to arrive extremely late, Roger provided all the pertinent information. The studio is in the backyard of a spacious home in a safe, quiet neighborhood 15-20 minutes from downtown Portland by car. The studio itself is clean, well-maintained, and quietly secluded.

    Jessica2017-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived on a rainy afternoon to find the premises exactly as described. A lovely , small, but beautifully designed apartment in a quiet backyard. Perfect for one person, doable for a couple that are easy together in a small space. We stayed four nights. Pullout couch was a comfortable bed. Heating was great during our wet, cool stay. Very comfortable and the yard would be great too if visiting during a warmer, dryer season. Parking was no problem and the location is great for the immediate Alberta Arts district or more distant neighborhoods. We met Colon only briefly when needed but he was quite responsive. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this spot for a short visit.

  • We had a lovely stay at the Garden Oasis. Colin and Medina were helpful and friendly. The space was cool, cozy, and simply innovative. It had everything we could possibly need. I loved all the greenery in the neighborhood and it was just a short walk to some cool restaurants and bars. The bus downtown was right around the corner. Had a great time and would definitely stay again. Thank you!

    Wei-Wei2013-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • The garden oasis guest house was a cozy and pleasant place to stay for out long weekend in Portland. Everything was very clean and as described. Location was excellent for the Alberta neighborhood, which ended up being our favorite.

    Rachel2014-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • The House and Location are so nice. Colin And Medina are so kind, but also give us privacy. So I and my hasband could stay feel like our home. We came to love Portland more.

    mio2015-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • Colin and Medina are great hosts, and Colin made sure we were well taken care of! The space itself is in the backyard, so it feels like a fully private accommodation with private entrance and garden sitting area. We didn't make use of the hammock much because it rained out some nights, but this is a great space to retreat to after a long day, and we deeply enjoyed the bed and the TV! Thanks for everything Colin! See you again soon :)

    Joel And Lynette2013-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • We were immediately impressed by the communication Colin & Medina had us with before & during our stay at their beautiful garden house. The space was extremely well kept, with a straightforward layout - made complete with helpfully detailed instructions ! In our 5 years of annual visits to Portland, this was our favorite place by far. We definitely plan on returning again. The location was perfect for biking to all the great spots the east side has to offer while still providing a quiet, and relaxed home-base setting ! Beauty, convenience, privacy & safety were met with perfect balance.

  • I really enjoyed the large bathtub and the little fridge, table and chair provided. Mr. Roland is very friendly and helpful.

    Michael2016-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • My visit at Roland's was wonderful! Roland is extremely kind, and very knowledgeable about the area. The room is a loft, so no doors. However, nobody goes upstairs, and there's a bathroom with a bathtub, so it's pretty self-contained. This is also a great neighborhood to walk around in, with Division and Hawthorne nearby with all the cool shops and restaurants, and public transportation is easily accessible just down the street. I really had a great time!

    Nichole2017-10-09T00:00:00Z

  • Roland was a wonderful host, although I didn't see him much during my stay. He was friendly, welcoming and accomodating, and the room was exactly as described. The loft is a nice studio-space in a very convenient location for a great value. The space itself is nicely furnished–comfortable bed, private bath, cute little dining area... The neighborhood is quiet-but-busy. It was great to easily walk to so many places. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to others.

    Michelle2015-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was one of the most amazing stay I had anywhere! Roland was very accommodating and a gracious host, he was never in the way, even with my late check in no issues. The location is very convenient to my needs. Stores, shops, bars, restaurants and public transportation all within walking distance! I could go on about my host, Roland, he told me places to, gave me a little history of Oregon and even took me to the airport for my return flight! Awesome!!!!!

    Beatrice2014-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at the Little Green House! The house was in a great neighborhood and was easy walking distance to restaurants, bars, and shops. We chose not to have a rental car and couldn't have been happier! The transit system was extremely easy to use and close by. We often walked to the Yellow Max Line or took Bus 4 (bus stop is so convenient!). The house was in wonderful condition and had everything we needed! Rick is correct in that the ladder is steep! We had one small hiccup when we checked in...our door code didn't work! However, Rick was available at 11:30 pm to help with a new code. Thanks for an absolutely great time in PDX! We can't wait to visit again and stay at the Little Green House!

    Emily2014-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Charming little house in a neighborhood rich with plenty of places to nosh, drink, catch a reading, build your own terrarium - so awesome. Radar, Gravy, and She Bop were some of the stops we made on our 24 hour getaway. Rick made sure we had everything we needed. Clean and conveniently located. Parking was easy. We'll definitely be back again.

    Nicole2014-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome house in the Mississippi area of Portland, which is much nicer than actual downtown Portland itself. The house is quirky and surprisingly spacious and it had everything we needed. It doesn't have a full kitchen, but that was fine with us as it is within walking distance of all of the restaurants, shops and bars in that area. We really enjoyed our time in Portland, in part due to this house. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

  • Location, location, location. Couldn’t be more perfect if you want to remain close to all the shops, cafes, and restaurant of Mississippi Ave. It’s a cheerful crash pad for those who want to dine out, but the mini fridge comes in handy. This is my second time staying here, and I’ll be back again :).

Can't say enough good things about Chuck & Annika's place. They were super friendly and lovely when we interacted but were great about leaving us space as well. The listing itself is awesome; very clean and comfortable and really nice to stay in although we spent most of our time out & about. They really pay attention to the little details and made us feel totally welcome and at home. They have a great list of information about the area, and recommendations which we felt were spot-on. The location is also perfect; a very easy walk to a ton of restaurants/shopping/etc, as well as access to a bus line that runs frequently through to downtown which makes access easy to pretty much everywhere with no need for a car. Would recommend whole-heartedly and would definitely love to stay here again.
