Sleeps 3, 3single beds .
This room has 3 bed but you will share the bathroom with 2 others, it is across the road from the Hogan stand of Croke park and a 15 minute walk to O'Connell street.
This is a Georgian period house retaining many of the original features, the accommodation is functional but wouldn't be the same standard as a new building. The neighbourhood is mature and very safe to walk around day or night.

Cosy room beside Croke Park with double bed, TV with Sky/Netflix and WIFI, in small terraced house in Drumcondra. Light breakfast provided. Excellent location: safe neighborhood in walking distance from Dublin city centre and on main bus route. Shops, restaurants and pubs on your doorstep. Perfect for people on the go or exploring Dublin. Your hosts, Emma and Alan, live here and have shared use of downstairs bathroom. Animal lovers only; two tiny rescue dogs and a cat live here too.
The room is small and quaint with lots of character. It’s situated upstairs at the back of a period, redbrick terraced house that dates from the early 1900s. The guest room has some original features including a fireplace (non functioning). There is one double bed in the room and a wardrobe with hangers for your clothes. There is free WIFI and a TV with Sky (including sports and movies) and Netflix.
Drumcondra has the best of both worlds, being so close to Dublin city centre but with a neighbourhood village feel. It’s handy for the airport and for any area of the city. We’re served by plenty of buses in either direction and Drumcondra has a train station too. The area is vibrant with lots to do and see. There are many great local pubs, cafes and restaurants beside our home. We can send you plenty of suggestions if you choose to stay with us.
  • muy buenos anfitriones

  • A great place near to everything and really stylish. Breakfast is a great touch and Emma had great hospitality

    Martin2019-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was such an amazing experience. Both Emma & her husband Alan were such great host. Friendly & Helpful, they made sure we made the most of our stay. It checked all the boxes as to what one would expect from a 5 star AirB&B. The proximity to the stadium made it easy to find and the four blocks from the Airport Bus pick up stop made it great after coming in after an exhausting flight. The room, along with being clean & comfortable, was so well set up we felt like we were home. And Emma & Alan went well beyond their way to make us feel welcomed.

    Elyse2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
Rundum perfekt

    Mathea2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfect for a week-end in Dublin ! Emma and Alan are very nice and welcoming !

    Céline2019-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • the best place I've ever stayed, they help us with everything. If I go again to Dublin I'll definitely stay there.

    Ricardo2019-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect spot to stay in Dublin! It’s walking distance to the major sights in Dublin, but also situated in a cute neighborhood with a number of great coffee shops/restaurants nearby. Emma and Alan were so hospitable - they let us drop off our luggage early so we could explore Dublin before our check-in time. There were thoughtful touches left in the room for us (snacks and water, shampoo, city map, etc). Even though we had to leave early to catch a flight in the morning, they left an awesome breakfast spread for us to grab and go. Highly recommend staying here!

    Allison2019-06-23T00:00:00Z

  • We had a wonderful stay at Ildi's & Ed's place. The room and the bathroom were very comfortable and clean. We can absolutely recommend this appartement for a stay in Dublin. Thanks Ed for your good guidance and fast replies. Cheers, Fabian & Lisa

  • Great place. After we landed in Dublin, we stayed at Ed’s and at the end of our trip (the night before our flight) we stayed at Ed’s. We had a great experience both stays and loved that it is so close to the airport. Ed is very easy to work with and loved getting to know him. I want our next trip to Ireland to include an extra night in Dublin just so we can get to know him better!

    Ben2018-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great hospitality... Made me feel at home and made sure I was comfortable! The room was a great space, and the bed was big and comfortable!

    Courtney2018-04-13T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfect: hygienic bathroom, comfortable bed, lovely welcome, excellent DIY breakfast, good location. I strongly recommend it to everyone.

    Tamás2018-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Really beautiful room exactly as the pictures describe. Both the room and specially the bathroom was extremely clean and shiny. Super large comfortable bed/mattress and so so quiet area. We had a greats sleeps. Still it is just a 20 min stroll into town but there is a bus if you don't want even walk at all. Also very convenient to and from the airport. Ildi and Ed are very friendly and super super welcoming. I felt at home right away. We were staying there during weekdays so we couldn't get yo see them much cos they were working and busy I guess. The rest of the apartment is also very beautiful, charming and clean too. We had a basic but nice complementary breakfast and free! Don't hesitate and book this Airbnb while you still can!!

    Eduardo2019-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • I have no words to describe Ed’s house. It’s Beautiful place, very clean, big and comfortable bed, shower is very hot and high pressure. Great location and quiet place. Brand new apartment available for 2 people in a fully refurbished Georgian building. Beautiful white gloss kitchen with grey splashback. All new appliances including cooker, fridge freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. New bathroom suite complete with grey tiles. This flat is a perfect place to stay while on your mini break to Dublin with easy walking access to the city centre.
The apartment is located on the second floor of the property and benefits from lots of natural light via a large Georgian sash window. The location is perfect and is only 1km from O'Connell Street and a host of other attractions. 800m from Connolly station for the dart and Luas is close by at Parnell Street. Local amenities include Trinity College, Croke Park and a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants. Transport links include Dublin bus services (123 from Summerhill, and decend at stop 49 on 16 or 41 bus), Connolly Train Station and the LUAS Red Line.
We are located just beside Croke Park and only 1km from O'Connell Street. If you fancy a nice brunch I would highly recomment the lovely food company in Drumcondra. There is also Insomnia on Gardiner Street if you would like coffee and cake. If you need to do some food shopping, there is a Lidl in Parnell Street or there is a Spar shop just to the right as you walk out the main door.
  • First time staying at Elaine’s place and it was amazing, the apt is very clean, comfortable and the neighborhood is great, also not far from the city center.

    Barbosa2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely small apartment, perfect for a short trip to Dublin! A bit noisy as its on a main road, so maybe not for light sleepers.

  • Really clean. Good and quiet location, you can basically walk everywhere from the flat. Painless check-in and check-out.

    Aarni Petteri2019-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and space, a smooth check-in/check-out, and solid communication. The apartment is really well-maintained, just as described. Super clean and comfortable. Would recommend to anyone planning a stay in Dublin.

    Zane2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Elaine’s unit is clean & walking distance to city center. It’s in a quiet neighborhood and great for a single traveler or couple. Some concerns include: Unit described as having WiFi and booked as such. Elaine stated that she got WiFi a week prior & WiFi was shared so she had to ask other user to turn on the modem. By midnight of the first night, we still could not access WiFi which was needed to complete a final work project. Elaine then said it was not a feature of her unit which I found very confusing. I double checked my print out of listing and saw in black & white that is was indeed a featured amenity. She never answered my question regarding this. We did finally receive WiFi on the next day. Lastly we requested a later check out as we were reuniting with remaining family members & trying to coordinate with the next Air B&B host. I waited 8 hours for a response & never heard back until I sent a follow up message. Lastly the pictures posted on Air B&B were not accurate. 2 photos showed the kitchen and one of those photos were of another kitchen. There was also a window listed that was not in our Air B&B

  • This is really beautiful room in a outstanding and modern house in a beautiful apartament complex very well located. It is not in downtown but a short 20 min stroll but perfect for us. Extremely quiet too. It is not ensuite but the bathroom is across the ail so couple of steps so somehow we still manage to get our privacy. Massive a super comfy bed and mattress. Ed the host is also extremely nice, welcoming and easy to talk to. We felt very comfortable throughout the 3 days we stayed here. I would defo come back here. Don't miss out

  • Great place to stay in Dublin! Anytime again

    Agata2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Checking in after 6pm was not ideal for us that's why I'd like to recommend a key box with a changeable pin to Ed (which I've made positive experiences with during other airbnb stays) to make the checkin easier and more flexible for both: guests and host. Other than mentioned in the description we had to share a bathroom with the persons staying in the other room which made everything a bit more uncomfortable: we couldn't leave e.g. the towels or our cosmetics in the bathroom and the couple in the other room was - to say the least - not very tidy regarding bread crumbs spread around the kitchen or leaving things everywhere like the hair dryer on the dining table. They also used the kitchen very late and loudly although the rules clearly stated something else. It was not possible to lock the room door nor to lock things into a closet which was a little bit weird staying in an apartment with strangers. Unfortunately, we never got to meet Ed in person since he was not in Dublin during our stay but at least he was reachable via messages and answered very quickly. We did love the very big and comfy bed, though. The price for the stay was ok and included a small diy breakfast (cereals, milk, coffee, tea were provided) which we enjoyed a lot and there's also a small shop just around the corner in case you want to grab some groceries and prepare meals yourself. The bus stop (123) is only a few minutes walk away from the accommodation and very easy to get to the city center with. Our conclusion is a 4 star rating for Ed and the accommodation.

    Micol2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Ed was great host. He was very friendly and explained everything we need such as how to access building use of car park and public transport. Place was nice and clean. Location was good. We had car and this place has free parking. We are recommend this place.

    Miso2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Ed’s home is the ideal location for an overnight when attending an event in Croke Park. It is so convenient to the venue and yet so quiet and safe. The bedroom and bathroom was very clean and had everything needed. Ed made the experience very easy with fast communication prior to and during the visit. We would love to stay here again.

    Karyn2018-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing apartment. Easy to get to. Close to the city center. We stayed there due to being close to Croke Park and it was closer than expected. You can see it from the balcony and a few minute walk gets you there. We went into the city center the next day and it is not far at all. We did not fly in but if you are coming from the airport it is very close too. Its honestly the perfect location! Ed is the perfect host and the apartment has everything and more than you would need. We will definitely be staying there again.

    Mercedes2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • It is good place for short stay. It is near to airport, if you take Taxi, only maximum 20 minuets if there is no heavy traffic. I take my kids went there in the night and never notice him first because I thought he was lived in another room beside us, but finally, his working time was late till middle night, when we arrived he had to drive home in a hurry for our key...but he never complained any. The room was clean and Raul was so thoughtful to prepare a single bed for one of my kids. The room was like a hotel, so don’t worry anything, you only need take one comb and toothpaste and brash...and Raul was worked so late, day time we were out to city and he slept at his room, when we were in room, he was working, so the flat was definitely like our own... If you want to cook you can use his kitchen, frankly you can found everything you want, just like your home...

  • The room is clean, spacious and comfortable. The bathroom and kitchen are very modern. Excellent location. Would recommend!

    James2018-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Raul's place was extremely nice, clean, and comfortable. Within walking distance to pubs, a park, train/bus, a market, and the arboretum. Raul also has a variety of Dublin and Ireland traveling brochures on hand in case you need more suggestions!

    Leah2017-05-05T00:00:00Z

Well located in the heart of the city, no need for additional transport. 1 minute walk to O'Connell street, 4 minute walk to temple bar and trinity college. Blacked-out curtains, high floor, late check-out of 1pm, quiet apartment = a good night sleep at a great price in dublin city centre. Wake up to a snack. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided. Fresh towels and fresh linen with every stay. Very quiet, clean, good sized bedroom on the fourth floor (elevator access).
Fourth floor north inner city apartment, with southern facing window. View the famous custom house, spire and many more features of the beautiful Dublin skyline. We have opted to remove the wardrobe and set up a more relaxing sitting area, so that guests can comfortably enjoy a meal or relax and make plans for the day.
The eclectic and intriguing Asian district of Dublin, very historically significant and of course very central area with everything within a short walking distance.
  • We had a lovely time exploring Dublin while staying at Colm’s, which was in perfect walking distance from all the sites! Although we didn’t get to meet Colm in person the room was cozy and had a welcoming homey feel, plus great amenities. We would definitely book Colm’s on our future visits to Dublin!

    Elizabeth2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great location! Walking distance to Temple Bar area and surrounded by nice chinese restaurants. You definitely have your privacy at home and you have everything at courtesy from tea to coffee. Recommend for everybody. Thanks Colm!

  • Colm’s place is located right by the city center! It was a quick walk to get to the City Center. Check in and check out was very easy. Colm was very responsive leading up to the check in. He gave great directions on how to get to his apartment and let us use a universal charger.

    Zhuo Hao2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Superb location -- within walking distance of everything we hoped to see whilst in Dublin. Colm was a good host, and took the time to talk us through local attractions. He was great with communicating with us, and even offered to let us into the place a little earlier than originally agreed, because of the early arrival of our flight.

    Georgia2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • My stay with Colm was exactly what I need, he was a great host who was very helpful and clear in my check in & out :)

  • Just as advertised, it's a room in a small flat just minutes from the heart of Dublin. Perfect place to rest your head between adventures. Colm was always quick to reply and very accommodating, and his place was just what we needed!

    Alicia2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and really nice host!

    Ariel2019-07-07T00:00:00Z

Newly refurbished small studio flat in traditional Georgian building retaining some original features and lots of character. Non occupied by the owner. Suitable for one or two adults. 10 minutes from Dublin City Center and on the aircoach route from Dublin Airport. Botanic Gardens, Croke Park, O'Connell Street, Glasnevin Cemetery, Old Jameson Distillery, Hugh Lane Gallery, Temple Bar all very close by this mature area.
My place is small but good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. Great transport links to airport 10km, Train station 2.5km and Bus station 1.5km. No shortage of buses and the DART (Drumcondra Station) is only 100 Meters away. •Ideally located near major bus routes. 10 minute Bus Journey. •25 minute walk to City- O'Connell Street. 2.3km to spire. •100 meters from DART (Suburban Train) . 1km from renowned Botanic Gardens and Glasnevin Cemetery • 1.5km from City Bus station, •2km from both major train stations, •10km from airport, There is street parking but unfortunately it is metered from 7am til midnight. Please note this is a city location so there is potential for the usual on street noise and traffic.
This is an old part of Dublin with traditional style buildings. There are shops located directly across the street, along with Cafes, restaurants and pubs. It is a good central location with access to many local tourist attractions and the city center for shopping only 10 minutes away by bus.

    Leandro2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Functional space for short trips, comfortable bed, very easy to get downtown, cheap taxi to airport. Accurately described.

  • Great location! The locals I met made me feel at home! Very close to anything you might need. Able to walk to city center in 15 minutes but everything I needed was less than 5 minutes away. Small but perfect for a solo traveler.

Hi Everyone, my name is Krystian a freelance visual artist, photographer and dance influencer from Poland, living in Dublin city since 2005. I am offering one of the two rooms in my apartment to guests, all my experience and knowledge about what the city has to offer. There is no access to the kitchen but there is a nice place called Candy Cafe to have breakfast near by and good Italian Restaurant just downstairs in our building.
Lovely, spacious and light room close to the city center. It is equipped with everything necessary for your comfortable stay. Excellent location 15 minutes walking distance from the Temple Bar. Great access to trams, bars, restaurants, shops, parks and so on nearby. The room is perfect for a couple or one person. There is a second bed available for third person but only on request, so let me know in advance please if needed. Easy access from Dublin Airport (1 bus - 25mins). The room is large with double bed and access to the balcony. There is also roof terrace available. There is no access to the kitchen. The apartment is very bright, which gives it a very nice and homey feeling. My apartment is situated on the first floor with a private terrace. Really close to the Conolly station and bus station (Busaras). Standard check out time is before 11:00  Standard check in time is after 15:00 Anyway, it's flexible and depends on previous/following guests.
It's very close from us to city center, train and bus station, shopping malls, Croke Park Stadium, Botanic Gardens, Sea coast, The Convention Centre and DCU. Enterprise Car Rental is just next door.

PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION BEFORE MAKING ANY BOOKINGS. Hi there! Welcome to the best location in the heart of Dublin. We are new on Airbnb, but we are going to do our best to make you very happy.
We are renting a bedroom in City Centre. The apartment is fully equipped with all necessary furniture and household appliances with wireless internet connection. Parking - Street parking. Ideal for friends - family - professionals - students or couples. We would love to welcome you in Dublin and hopping that you enjoy your stay in our home!
The neighbourhood is really amazing, because there is all kind of leisure around. We are located 5 minutes walk from O'Connell Street (Which is the most famous street in Dublin), 15 minutes walk from Temple bar area (where you can find a diversity of tradicional Irish pubs), 15 minutes walk from Trinity College, and close to all the cultural places that you suppose to visit over here. This area also has supermarkets, cinema, theatre, coffee shops, shopping centre (everything going by walk) very close to.

  • Good place, Diana was out of town and I had to check in through a friend of hers, which was odd. The bathroom was dirty but I only stayed for one night so it was easy to just ignore most issues. Great location, decent value.

    Elizabeth2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Diana's place was exactly as advertised. Close to the city centre, and all public transport. Perfect for an overnight stay. Would definitely recommend to anyone wishing to stay the night in Dublin.

    Sharon2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • This bedroom was okay for a one night stay. The mattress sinks in the middle, so I definitely held my position all night haha. I also didn’t feel comfortable sleeping under the covers. The host was very friendly and great with communication to get me into the apartment. It was centrally located to see a show at the Olympia Theatre where I took the bus to but walked back after show. The building itself felt sketchy, not a reflection of the host, but it was pretty quiet and safe. Being in Temple Bar there was a little bit of street noise but my earplugs canceled that out. It also didn’t work out for me to use the shower. Bring a towel, those aren’t provided. For lack of kitchen use or cups, there’s a Spar (market) on the corner and an Insomnia coffee house across the street.

    Heather2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Can’t fault the location. However was a bit of a strange air bnb experience. There is only 1 bedroom which you sleep in which we were never told and the host and friend slept in the living room. This was really awkward as we were restricted in going into the kitchen because there seemed to always be someone asleep in the living room until 10am. We also weren’t told at all what to do when checking out. Also ask for directions before you get there as the location is slightly wrong on (Hidden by Airbnb) maps. Amenities slightly lacking as you can’t put your clothes in the wardrobe, were only given one towel each and there was little welcoming and communication once you were there. Also often a lack of hot water in the shower. However much cheaper than other places in the area and you are within walking distance of the whole of Dublin so would be handy for a short stay.

Comfortable and quiet room in City center, just 3 minutes walk from O'Connell Street and Dublin's trending shopping areas, Temple Bar and most of the main attractions are also easy to reach,

Julio is very friendly and despite not being in the apartment where I was staying he would come in daily to check if everything was ok or text to ask if I needed anything.

  • Room was very spacious and clean. Julio was a very kind host and left food for St. Patrick’s Day and a couple gifts as well. Very great location. About a 10 minute walk from O’Connell street, which is very easy to get to public transportation to all of the sights.

    Lacey2019-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Julio was very responsive to any questions I had throughout my stay and made sure I was comfortable. I would highly recommend staying here if you are in Dublin.

  • The location of the olace is excellent, close to everything you need. Room and bed was all okay. The bathroom was a bit cold and confusing as there was a special pump for shower that i didn't knoq how to use. CENTRAL LOCATION!! Nice and cozy double bedroom, very comfortable for couples with private bathroom. 5 minutes walk to the bus station, 10-15 minutes walk to the city center (spire). Spar is just in front of the building, few minutes walk to the few different restaurants, pubs, fast foods, stores, etc. Croke Park stadium is also within few minutes walk from the apartment. I am very flexible person, so if you need anything feel free to ask. :)
    - There is a possibility to accommodate one more person on the floor mattress for extra 25€.

  • The house is about 30 minutes walk to the city center. The building has a bizarre security system that has to be explained to you. We almost stayed out the first night. The adress is not accurate, there is no way you can find the house on your own, but the host was very helpful since he picked us up from the street. The room is very clean and beautiful but there is not space to sit, just a bed. There is very big storage space in the room. I believe that the owner should be more careful during the arrival, but he was very polite.

    Theoktistos2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn’t have been better. Host was very accommodating and very quick to respond with any questions. Host was also flexible with check-in and check-out time, which was extremely helpful. The place was very clean and had all of the necessities for a few night stay. Higly recomend and looking forward to use his service again.

A central, apartment with a cozy touch located only 15 minutes from the infamous attractions of town and walking distance to O'Connell Street and Stephen's Green. Ideal for a weekend of exploring the city. The restful space and welcoming hosts will ensure a pleasurable stay in Dublin.
It's a modern, bright and well-maintained flat in an apartment complex in the heart of Dublin.
The apartment is located 2 minutes from Croke Park, which makes it a dream location for the main sport event and big concert stays. It is located 5 minutes from Mountjoy Square Park and a bus stop that leads to all of the city's attractions including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Trinity College, Guinness Storehouse or Jameson Distillery.

A piedi ci vogliono circa 15-20 minuti.

    Francesco Luca2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • There was no problem to check in. Dianne gave us good instructions to find her appartment, was very fast with response and welcome us very friendly. Unfortunately the bathroom wasn't clean at all and in the bedroom was a bad smell too.

    Dirk2019-09-05T00:00:00Z

    Frank2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Dianne´s place was well located for me, near the Croke Park (the venue of the event I attended). Its a 20 minutes walking to main attractions and I felt safe walking around by myself even late. The building and the apartment are nice and new. Things to improve: bathroom cleaning, new towels and it should have keys to lock the private room, considering sometimes I heard other people visiting or staying there for a while. I would feel more comfortable to stay there with my room locked. Also, the need to wait for someone to access the building and use the lift is not nice. Dublin accommodations rates are quite high, so this place offered me a reasonable deal.

    Marcelle2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a great space. Very classy apartment, high security and very luxurious. Great location! Comfortable bed, kind people and very responsive. Check in was a challenge. No clear markings of the door and had to wait for someone to come out to go In and had to ask someone from the building to let us up the elevator after we had travelled and just wanted to settle. Locals said it was a rough area but we found it to be easy to get to everywhere and seemed safe to us.

    Chris2019-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • Diane's roommate is very welcoming. We arrived at a late hour, it did not pose a problem. However little disappointment when arriving at the apartment. Bathroom with peeling paint and mildew, no toilet paper, no hair dryer. The sheets of the bed were clean, but the quality of the bed very bad, head of bed smelling musty. Even if the price is lower than the average, it would make a few things look ....

Nice en suite room in red brick Georgian house, retaining some original features and lots of character, may not appear quite as clean as a modern building. The room has a double and single bed, sleeps 3, 150 metres from airport bus stop at Quinns , near Botanical gardens, city centre & temple bar only 1.7 km, Croke Park stadium on your door step, plenty of bars, restaurants, & grocery stores only 5-10 minute walk. The apartment is located a 2 minute walk from Fagans bar which is very busy on a Friday and Saturday night. It is also a short walking distance from Croke Park, which is the biggest stadium in Ireland, this is were the national sports of Ireland are played, such as GAA and hurling. There are many nice cafes and restaurants in the vicinity which we can recommend for you.

    Álvaro2018-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • we stayed one night there and we had a great time. Dayane and her husband were really kind and they were all the time available to answer our questions and needs. The place is really nice. everything was clean and tidy and it is perfect for two couples. I'll definitely come back. Definitivamente me alojaría ahí otra vez si vuelvo a Dublin.

    Mª Dolores2018-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • REALMENTE DECEPCIONADO Y DEFRAUDADO.

    Antonio2018-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in Karin's beautiful Airbnb - full of art, rugs, books and a beautiful view across Mountjoy Square. Communication with Karin was always prompt, friendly and very informative, and when we met Karin in person she was welcoming and had great advice on local places such as restaurants and bars. The hospitality extended through to unexpected little touches, such as providing muesli, yoghurt, milk and ground coffe, as well as fruit and eggs for breakfast. The apartment was well located and an easy walk into town. Hopefully we'll be able to make a return visit here again one day. Well recommended.

    Greg2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • No internet. No hot water. The Airbnb is charming and in a great location (though from my few days in Dublin, everything is pretty central). The host was extremely responsive leading up to my visit. The front door was in process of repair while I was staying, so I had to use the back entrance. No problem. I’m not a high maintenance guy. But when I messaged her about there being no WiFi signal working on my second day , she choose not to respond at all (Of the four connections in the multi-unit house, only seldom would any show-up on my phone and when one did, the internet didn’t function at all.) Very frustrating, especially because I had work for my job to do. (I had mentioned this in my message to the host). So when there was no hot water, I opted to not contact her. I will admit this. Initially I thought I had not turned on the hot water heater per the instructions in the apartment book. But no, even with the switch on, only cold water. Look, I hate leaving bad reviews. This is a really lovely house, my apartment was clean and welcoming, coffee left for me and even eggs in the refrigerator. But as far as the BASIC amenities go, it was really disappointing, pretty inexcusable.

    Ryan2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing hostess and home!! Simply gorgeous! Extraordinary attention to detail. Cannot find one complaint about the flat. It's deep history immerses you into Irish culture. A wonderful place to stay and Karin has thought of everything from the Irish movie library and the vintage decor to all the kitchen supplies. For my mother and myself, this was our first stay with air B and B and we have been blown away by the kindness of our host. The location and tone of the flat makes you feel like a local. The location of the building is also amazing in its ability to make you feel as though you are in a quiet suburb, just a short walk to the city. Although the city is not without its dangers, as two women in Europe we felt quite safe. Also, the view of the park is beautiful. In the short eight days of our stay, we felt as though we have truly experienced Dublin thanks to Karin and all her help. She truly knows her city and attractions. She provides you with extensive information. Grocery stores such as 'Pops and Tops' are extremely close and the flat is not too far from the airport (by bus) and a moderate walk to the city. Above all, it was the historical and cultural atmosphere, the attention to detail and Karin's hospitality that made this stay extraordinary. Wouldn't have stayed anywhere else!

  • Have used airbnb in Dublin many times and this has by far been the best stay we have had. Already look forward to our next trip and will definitely stay with Naomi. Perfect location for a walk to the centre of Dublin and our host offered all the help we needed with recommendations, even allowing us check in early on our arrival. Thanks Naomi - we will be back :)

  • A excellent location Clean and comfortable flat. Craic and a real Irish welcome! Cups of tea

  • All 5 star rating for Naomi! We had a very pleasant stay the house is walking distance to almost all tourist spot. This is a great accommodation specially if you are watching a concert in croke park as it is really close. Naomi also response very fast and give lots of tips on what to do around the city. We will definitely stay again when back in Dublin.

  • Naomi's place was great. It had everything you would need and more. She was kind enough to really spend some time and tell us of the local spots to check out. The walk into town was quick, although we used the bus a lot (because laziness). The room is private and the bathroom had all the necessities. If it was warmer outside, we definitely would have used the back (Website hidden by Airbnb) looks really charming. Would definitely recommend.

Bright new studio apartment available for 2 people in a fully refurbished Georgian building. Beautiful white gloss kitchen with grey splashback. All new appliances including cooker, fridge freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. New bathroom suite complete with grey tiles. This apartment is a perfect place to stay while on your mini break to Dublin with easy walking access to the city centre. Please note that the Bedroom and Kitchen are in one large room.
The apartment is located on the Ground floor of the property and benefits from lots of natural light via a large Georgian sash window.
  • Fantastic location and apartment. I would highly recommend to stay here.

  • This place was a dream come true after having to immediately exit a bad situation in a previous place. Elaine accommodated me last min and I was overjoyed to walk in & see such a stunning brand new place lovely view of Croke Park stadium! This place is so new that it doesn’t have wifi yet and needs just a few things for one to stay a little longer than 1 night - a mirror in the main room would help to make it look bigger & aid for dressing & hair grooming tools as there isnt an extension for the bathroom. It could use a little decor & maybe some alternate lighting; a small lamp & nightstand. But all things aside this place is really lovely & if i come back hope to stay there again!

  • This spot was incredibly clean and comfortable. The bed was incredible, the shower and bathroom was incredibly clean, and a full kitchen was ready to go. It was a walk from most of the pubs in town, but there was one right on the corner outside if you wanted a quick bite. It’s also right next to the stadium so if you come for a game, this place is perfect.

    Thomas2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here for three nights. This bedsit is bright, modern, warm and comfortable. Furthermore it was impeccably clean. Right in the heart of Dublin City with so much on your doorstep. Ideal for both lone travellers and couples alike

  • Elaine's place was modern, stylish, sparkling clean, and in an excellent location. Check in was super easy and the place has everything you need for a stay in the city. Highly recommend Elaine's place.

  • Excellent location. Easy to communicate with the host

    Emilie2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • The unit is very clean with all the necessities. We spent most of our trip out exploring, and the unit was perfect as a place to rest our heads at the end of the day. The area is nice and quiet, and about a 20-25min walk (or a quick cab ride) from Temple Bar. It’s slightly far if you’re looking for something right in the action, but if you’re looking for a spot that’s close to Temple Bar, yet far enough away that the noise won’t bother you at night then this place is great! Elaine was very responsive during check in, and gave us some great suggestions, which we appreciated! Overall, I definitely recommend this place!

Small self contained studio (newly redecorated) with double bed, kitchenette and ensuite bathroom available in central location. The studio is small but has everything one should need for a short to medium stay.
The studio is located approximately 1km from O Connell street and is easily accessible from the airport via the 16 or 41 bus.
  • Good value stay. Good for single travelers or two people okay with tight space. Good location not too far out. Keep an eye on events at the sporting ground as it can get very busy and very loud if you're not aware.

    Ashleigh2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
Pulizia perfetta e self check-in comodissimo. Per concludere, un ottimo rapporto 'qualità/prezzo'.

    Federico2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Although we did not meet Elaine face to face, everything was very well organized and Elaine has provided us with all necessary information on how to get to the place and explained how everything works in the apartment in such detail. The apartment was quite small, but it did not get in our way since we didn't spend much time in there. The place was sparkling clean and in a very central location, walking distance to the city center.

KARIN'S GUIDE TO THE CITY LOCAL GROCERY SHOPPING, SERVICES AND BREAKFAST OPTIONS In general, shopping hours are 9.30-6pm, with late-night shopping till 8pm on Thursdays. Sunday opening is from noon. BREAKFAST The Kingfisher Café, a Dublin institution, on the corner of Parnell Square and Parnell Street West is great for a 'Full Irish Breakfast', and numerous variations, including porridge. Everything is cooked to order and the sraff are professional and friendly. Breakfast served 9am-12:30, 7 days a week. Later in the day they have excellent fish and chips. Koffee and Kale, on the corner of Hill Street and Gardiner Place, two blocks away has great coffee and pastries, and soup/salad/sandwiches at lunchtime. LOCAL GROCERY SHOPPING Tops in Pops, just down the street to the right, for fresh local produce and basic groceries, 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. They are a fourth-generation local business, who have been trading on the site since 1931. The Londis corner store next door opens 8am to 10pm, but charge for privilege. There is an ATM machine at the back, right hand side of the store. Dunne's Stores, is the indigenous supermarket and department store chain, and has branches in every sizeable town throughout the country. There are two local branches. In North Earl Street, opposite O’Connell Street’s Spire, the Off-Licence (liquor store) is in a separate premises, a few doors apart - look for the James Joyce statue. You will find a bigger branch in the ILAC Shopping Centre, flanked by Henry Street, Moore Street and Parnell Street West . There is Metro Tesco on Parnell Street West, just past the Rotunda Hospital. A main branch is to be found in the basement of the Jervis Centre, off Henry Street. Carney’s Butchers, is another multi-generational local family business, which prides itself on the quality of its meat. In keeping with local tradition, they sell fresh fish on Friday’s. F.X. Buckley’s Butchers have two local branches; Moore Street and Talbot Street. This is a very old Dublin business and they have everything; free-range pork, beef and lamb from their own herds, poultry, game in season and fish, and, in the Moore Street branch, a deli counter for cooked meats next door. They are very obliging, and the lads have a great line in smart (sassy) chat. PHARMACIES Foley's Pharmacy on Parnell Street East is a 100+ year-old family business; they are very helpful. Opening hours: Monday-Saturday 9am 6pm. Michael recently (May 2017) won the National 'Community Pharmacist of the Year' award, and a nicer, kinder, or more helpful man you will never meet.... There is a late-night pharmacy, Hickey’s at 55 Lower O’Connell Street, (west side, within the block closest to the river). Opening hours: 8am -10pm M-F, 8.30am-10pm Saturday. 10am 10pm Sunday. Web: (EMAIL HIDDEN) POST OFFICES Nearest Post Office is Parnell Street East, at corner of Marlborough Street, but much nicer is the GPO, O’Connell Street. 1828 façade, but badly damaged in the 1916 Rising, and largely rebuilt in 1928. The main hall is beautiful, with its entire original, 1928, fittings intact. It also contains the iconic statue, by Oliver Shepherd, The Dying Cuchullin. You will find a booklet with postal rates in the black folder. BANKS Allied Irish Bank has a branch on O’Connell Street, at the SW junction with Parnell Street, opposite the Rotunda Hospital. ATM in the wall. Bank of Ireland has a branch at Lower O’Connell Street, on the east side of the street, between Middle Abbey Street and Ashton Quay. ATM inside, opens MEDICAL AND DENTAL PRACTICES Mountjoy Medical Practice, Dr. Gerry Roebuck, Dr. Holly Porter (female) Dr. Colm Killeen. 2-3 Baker’s Yard, Portland Street North. Tel (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Opening hours 9-1.30 and 3.30-5.30. You can just drop in. €50 per visit. (Five blocks away, going North East) Frederick Dental Clinic, North Frederick Street. The dentist is happy to see people on an emergency basis. Call for appointment. Tel:(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) blocks away, going West) NORTHSIDE LOCAL RESTAURANTS: 'The Cobalt Cafe', in a beautiful Georgian house on North Great Georges Street, which doubles as a gallery, is great for lunch. Parnell Street, Dublin's emerging 'Chinatown' is just a half a block to the south. Newly opened, on Parnell Square West is 'Mr Fox', serving modern Irish food in a smart and comfortable setting, by the same team who operate Dublin's much lauded 'The Pig's Ear' on Nassau Street, overlooking the Trinity College playing fields.. '147 Cafe' at 147, Parnell Street East, opp the Marlborough Street junction, serve good Illy coffee, and great sandwiches, daytime hours. Nearer the river, 'Le Bon Crubeen' (crubeen=pig's trotter- it's a modern Franco-Irish restaurant) is on Talbot Street, as is the venerable and immensely popular 'Talbot 101'. It is packed to the gunnels with locals between 5.54 and 7.15, enjoying their pre-theatre supper before the Abbey curtains rise at 7.30, when they relinquish their seats for the rest of us! On the riverfront, I love Panem, facing the Millennium Bridge, for a quick coffee and a delicious Sicilian almond biscuit, baked on the premises. A few doors down, you'll find a cluster of Italian bars, cafes and restaurants serving good quality food. Half a block to the east is the trendy 'Winding Stairs' restaurant, with its book-lined walls (relics of a former second-hand bookshop-cum-cafe of the same name); The woollen Mills on the corner of Liffey street does great casual food, including excellent brunch. Back on Capel Street, locals rave about Brother Hubbard, and the Soup Dragon, for lunch. Blas cafe in the Chocolate Factory, on Kings Inn Street, off Parnell Street West has an interesting, casual menu, in a bright, spacious and funky former factory (daytime). LOCAL PUBS include the 'Hill 16' just opposite the house, on Gardiner Street - very popular with the GAA crowd on match days (the Gaelic Athletic Association Stadium, Croke Park, is just 3 blocks to the east), they pull a superb 'pint'. ‘The Heritage Parnell’, on Parnell Street West, just around the corner from O’Connell Street, does 'pub grub'. 'The Flowing Tide', on the corner of Marlborough Street, opposite the Abbey Theatre, is one of my favorites - after the curtain goes down in the Abbey, half the cast are likely to be at the bar. A few doors closer to O’Connell Street is Mulligan’s, another very nice pub, dating from the Edwardian era. 'The Church' on Mary Street, in a converted 1720's church, is another fine place for a drink; the former owner won many accolades for the high quality of the restoration. Capel Street has many typical local pubs, which have the added benefit of serving a largely local population. They include 'O’Neill’s' and 'Slattery's which is good for music. 'The Black Sheep' has the local craft beers covered, and does good bar food, (as does its sister pub, ‘The Brew Dock’, on Store Street, at the bottom of Gardiner Street. The north side traditional music 'musician’s' bar is 'The Cobblestone', at the top of Smithfield, and is suitably grungy. DEPARTMENT STORES AND FASHION Henry Street, off O’Connell Street, at the SPIRE, is the premier shopping street on the north side of the river. Here you will find Arnott’s the local department store, which highlights Irish fashion and design, throughout the store, and has several nice cafes. Henry Street also contains large branches of Debenhams and Marks&Spencers, as well as branches of most of the high street fashion chains. There are two large shopping centres, the Jervis, with a large branch of Tesco’s in the Basement, and the ILAC, which has a Dunne's Department Store, with a Food Hall in the basement. (You can shop for fresh produce on adjacent Moore Street, Dublin's oldest street market, now also home to a thriving cluster of ethnic food markets and restaurants.) NORTHSIDE CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS The North side of Parnell Square is home to the city's Hugh Lane Gallery of Modern Art; we share a significant collection of Impressionist painting with the Tate Gallery in London, part of the Hugh Lane Bequest, which is rotated in seven-year cycles. (The cafe, overlooking an interior garden, is called 'Hatch'; the original is in the basement of the 'Little Museum of Dublin' on St. Stevens Green). Next door is the Writer's Centre, and next door again, is the Writer's Museum, with a Michelin-starred restaurant in the basement, the amazing Chapter One. Down on the East side of Parnell Square is the beautiful jewel-box that is the Gate Theatre - part of the 18th-century entertainment complex established by the entrepreneurial Dr. Bartholomew, to help support his new Rotunda Maternity Hospital (the oldest purpose-built such hospital in the world, and still delivering babies on a daily basis, 270 years later (9000 in 2012). You could be seated in either the Abbey or Gate Theatres within 10 minutes of leaving the house, and the James Joyce Cultural Centre is even closer, on North Great Georges Street (don't forget to check out the Cobalt Cafe, opposite). Hop on the Luas Red Line, going west, in Abbey Street, halfway between Mountjoy Square and the river, and alight ‘Museum’ stop. The National Museum, Collins Barracks, housed in an old military barracks, dating from 1702, contains the Decorative Arts Collections, (basically, everything post 1700). Descend at the next stop, ‘Heuston’ for IMMA, Ireland's National Museum of Modern Art, housed in the old Kilmainham Hospital, built in the1660’s. It pre-dates its more famous sibling, the Chelsea Hospital, in London by several years. Not to be missed is the Old Jameson Distillery, in Smithfield. Jameson was distilled here until 1971, when three historic distilleries amalgamated, and centralized distilling in Midleton, Co. Cork. The Museum is very well presented; one is guided around the distilling floor, among the huge old pot stills before retiring to the Bar to sample the goods. Nearby is one of the oldest churches in Dublin, St.Michan’s, on Church Street, dating from the mid-11thC. There are several mummified bodies in the basement, thought to be Crusaders. When I was a child, one was allowed to shake their hands….. SOUTHSIDE In the south city centre, the RESTAURANT HUB is in the pedestrian streets to either side of Grafton Street, and in Temple Bar. Particular favourites of mine include: * The Pig's Ear, Nassau Street * Nede, Temple Bar Square * Eden Bar and Grill, South William Street * The Green Hen, Wicklow Street * Fallon and Byrne, Exchequer Street, basement wine-bar, full service restaurant first- floor, and coffee bar within the food-hall on the ground floor. * Fade Street Social, Fade Street, tapas bar and full-service restaurant. * The Rustic Stone, Exchequer Street, upmarket, sophisticated and healthy ‘fast food’. * Cornucopia, Wicklow Street- vegetarian café day, full service by evening. * The Port House, South William Street, wine bar and tapas. * Stanley's, St. Andrew Street, off Wicklow Street- wine bar and full service * Pinxto, Crowe Street, Temple Bar, as above, same management. * Cleaver East, Clarence Hotel - chef Oliver Dunne had a Michelin star in the parent restaurant, Bon Appetit, Malahide village, until he decided to hand it back and get a life Southside city-centre TRADITIONAL PUBS we like are: * Mulligan's, Poolbeg Street * Neary's, Chatham Street * Grogan’s, South William Street * International Bar, Wicklow Street * O'Neill's, Suffolk Street * The Dawson Lounge, Dawson Street * The Stag's Head, Connaught Court * The Long Hall, South Great Georges Street * Doheny and Nesbitt’s, Merrion Row * Kehoe’s, South Anne Street * The Duke, Duke Street Fronting the river, TEMPLE BAR, with its vibrant mix of independent shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, markets and cultural institutions occupies an area three blocks deep and ten blocks long. At the western end, look out for the two branches of the Queen of Tarts- a wonderful tea shop that offers really good home baking and teas and coffees, all served on mismatched antique china (Lord Edward Street and Cow's Lane). Piglet Wine Bar, on the same pedestrian street had a lovely wine selection and great tapas, at good prices. TEMPLE BAR FARMERS MARKET, is held every Saturday in Meeting House Square, 9-4.30, now has a smart new tensile roof for wet days, and is a good place to rub shoulders with the locals, whilst sampling local food culture. Don’t miss the Oyster Stall, , or David Llewyllan’s fantastic ‘Double L’ local cider- 100% apple (not even water), and the two local cheese stalls, among others. Don’t’ forget to check out the overflow stalls on Curved Street, where Rossa Crowe’s fantastic bread is on offer- Rossa took himself off to France for two years to train, and now produces slow fermented breads, made with the very best organic flours. SOUTHSIDE CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS TRINITY COLLEGE is a good orientation point; from here it is easy to find the mediaeval core, the cultural/political hub of the country around Kildare Street, and the Grafton Street fashion hub. The campus occupies a 40-acre (16ha.) site, and is over 400 years old, though what one sees today are mainly beautiful eighteenth-century buildings. It is worth a wander around, after a visit to spectacular Long Library, to see the Book of Kells and other illustrated Celtic manuscripts. From Front Gate, look south to Grafton Street or west up College Green and Dame Street, which lead to the mediaeval core. At the brow of the hill you will find: * Dublin Castle (visit the State Apartments, the Chester Beatty Library and the lovely garden in front (which is actually the helicopter-landing pad for the Castle). * The City Hall with its 'Museum of the Capital' in the basement is worth a look- the Hall is free, and there is a nominal charge for the Museum. * Christchurch Cathedral * Dublinia-in the Christchurch Chapterhouse (Viking Exhibition). * Old Saint Audeon's Church, built almost into the city wall. * St Patrick's Cathedral, and historic park beside. * Marshe's Library-the oldest public library in these islands, 1701. * Francis Street- the Antiques Quarter. * Thomas Street/Meath Street, for a touch of 'Old Dublin'. * The Guinness Storehouse. * Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, (IMMA) Ireland's National Gallery of Modern Art, with its wonderful, recently restored formal garden. KILMINHAM GAOL is worth a visit, and tells the story of Irish Nationalism. It can be reached via the grounds of IMMA, passing Bully’s Acre, and old graveyard, where Brian Boru was reputedly rested on his way to his final burial place in Armagh. Alternatively, exit onto Nassau Street, with its cluster of high-quality shops showcasing the best of Irish crafts - fashion, knitwear, weaving, glassware, ceramics and contemporary jewellery - the Kilkenny Shop has a great cafe upstairs, with views over College Park. The Pig's Ear restaurant is one of my all-time favourites. Continue along the College Park railings till you reach Kildare Street, the cultural-institutional hub of the country. All of our national cultural institutions have free admission. Here you will find the National Library, and the National Museum, facing each other over the forecourt of Leinster House, home to the Oireachtas, our National Parliament. The National Library has a lovely exhibit on the poet, W.B. Yeats, and the Treasury, in the National Museum houses both the Bronze Age and Early Christian collections. On the opposite side of the block, on Merrion Street/Merrion Square, you will find the National Gallery, and the Natural History Museum (known to Dubliner's of my father's generation, as 'The Dead Zoo’. This is a very refreshing look to the past, with absolutely no interpretation, and nothing, not even a postcard, to buy). The National Gallery is almost through a four-year renovation programme; in the meantime, the Millennium Wing, on Clare Street, has a ‘highlights of’ exhibition, and the Café and Gift Shop are also accessed via the Clare Street Entrance. GETTING AROUND Two operators offer Hop-On/Hop-Off tours: (URL HIDDEN) (URL HIDDEN) They both offer a 2-day ticket, and cost roughly the same price - check them out online before you make up your mind. One can buy an integrated LEAP card in most newsagents, at train stations, and in the Dublin Bus Head Office at 42 O’Connell Street (on the west side of the street, just north of the Spire). This can be used on the LUAS, DART, some suburban mainline trains, and on Dublin Bus routes. There is also a 3-day tourist pass, the Freedom Ticket, which provides good value. €28 will give you 72 hours transport, starting at the Airport; Airlink from the airport, the Hop-On-Hop –Off tourist bus and all local bus routes. Web: (URL HIDDEN) •The DART, the local electric commuter train, runs north/south along the coast. The north-side city centre station is Connolly, on Amiens Street, facing Talbot Street, but I usually suggest people use Tara Street, as Connolly is also a mainline station, and is very big, and a bit confusing. Tara is purely a commuter station, and is about the same distance. It is on George’s Quay, just south of the Custom House. The other south-side city centre station is Pearse, on Westland Row, at the south end of the Trinity campus. •The LUAS Red Line runs east-west through the north side of the city, as far east as the docks, and serves both Connolly and Heuston mainline stations. The nearest stop to Mountjoy Square is Abbey, on Middle Abbey Street, opposite the Abbey Theatre. The LUAS Green Line serves the south suburbs; Ranelagh, Dundrum, Leopardstown Racecourse, and on out to Cherrywood, on the county boundary with Wicklow. •Main cross-city bus routes run north-south through O’Connell Street. The No.7 terminates on Mountjoy Square North, and there is a ‘shopper’s fare’ of 50c, to Grafton Street- alight at Trinity. On the return journey it skirts the Trinity campus and comes along Pearse, to the east of the campus - catch it on Clare Street, at the Millennium wing of the National Gallery. •DUBLIN BIKES are free to use for the first half hour, and have a stand on Mountjoy Square West, but one needs to go to the Princes Street stand (to the right hand side of the General Post Office (GPO)), to purchase a short term card. It costs €2, and is only available to credit card holders. SHOPPING WITH A DIFFERENCE Those interested in the local fashion, art and design scene should look out for the following addresses (in no particular order): •Designist, South Great George's Street (stock chosen for good design) •Irish Design Store, Drury Street •Article, Powerscourt Townhouse Centre (housewares) •Irish Designer Store, Top floor Powerscourt Townhouse Centre •Cow's Lane Gallery, Temple Bar (artist’s collective) •The Jam Factory, Nicholas Street (artist’s collective) •Avoca, Suffolk Street •Kilkenny Shop, Nassau Street •Designyard, South Frederick Street (jewellery) •Louise Kennedy, couturier, Merrion Square, and Tipperary Crystal •Gallery Zozimus, Francis Street (art gallery and carefully chosen crafts) •Graphic Studio Gallery, Temple Bar (artist-printmaker’s gallery) •Malthouse Design Centre and Shop, Distillery Court, 537 North Circular •Magee's of Donegal, Wicklow Street, and, •Kevin and Howlin, Nassau Street have hand-woven tweeds covered. •Dubarry's, College Green produce wonderful, country-style outerwear, including the most perfect alternative to sweaty, waterproof Wellington boots… •Monaghan's, Hibernian Way, the House of Ireland on Nassau Street and the Sweater Shops on Wicklow Street and Nassau Street has the best selections of traditional knitwear. Monaghan's specialise in cashmere. •The Cloth Shop, St. William Street, for interesting designer fabric, including a good selection of Irish Linen, and Liberty of London INDEPENDENT BOOKSHOPS and MUSIC STORES Eason’s, O’Connell Street, is a Dublin institution for over 100 years. It encompasses a large stationery department, a branch of Tower Records on the top floor, academic books in the basement, a nice café and two floors of general books. It is a good place to browse books of Irish interest, and they have a really good Information Desk. Chapters, Parnell Street West is my ‘local’. John Gannon is one of the best booksellers in the business, and his staff are hand-picked enthusiastic bibliophiles, one and all. Stock is a mixture of the latest releases, and carefully chosen remaindered books. Their ordering service is superlative, and they ALWAYS know exactly what one is talking about, even with just the vaguest, half-remembered clues from a newspaper review. Very strong on contemporary fiction, natural history, non-fiction and books of Irish interest. Extensive second-hand section upstairs. The Secret Bookstore, Wicklow Street is another favourite. It’s tucked away down a passage, near the L’Occitane shop and often throws up gems among its large second-hand stock. An eclectic music store occupies the rear of the shop. Cathach Rare Books, Duke Street, specializes in Irish first editions, and have an interesting selection of Irish maps and prints. Stokes Books is another interesting antiquarian/secondhand shop, specializing in books of Irish interest. You’ll find it in Georges Street Arcade. Claddagh Records, Cecelia Street, Temple Bar, is primarily a music publisher, but they have a retail outlet in Temple Bar, which is the oldest independent music shop in Dublin, and specializes in traditional Irish music, with some interesting World Music additions. SHORT TRIPS OUTSIDE THE CITY BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT NORTH: Catch the No.46A bus, (heading north on O'Connell Street to the Phoenix Park- the largest enclosed urban park in the world, 1750 acres behind a seven-mile-long stone wall. Ashtown Castle Interpretive Centre, with its wonderful walled garden and café is a good place to orient oneself. From here, on Saturdays, it is possible to visit Aras an Uachtarian, the official residence of our President. One can also visit Farmliegh, the Official State Guesthouse, a former Guinness mansion. Among it’s attractions are an art gallery, café, occasional free concerts, and regular weekend Farmer’s Markets. The Park also houses the Dublin Zoo, (1827, the second-oldest Zoo in the world, after London’s Regent Park Zoo). Several herd of Fallow Deer roam at liberty. Many sports are catered for; there is Polo ground, a cricket club, and lots soccer pitches. The Duke of Wellington is commemorated by a marvellous Sobelisk, and the Forty Acres affords superb views over the city, with the Royal Hospital and Guinness Brewery in the foreground, along the south side of the River Liffey. Phoenix Park can also be reached via the LUAS Red Line, direction Tallagh, heading west. Alight at 'Museum' and take a detour into the National Museum-Collins Barracks, which houses the Decorative Arts, post-1700, wonderful collections of silver, furniture, glass and other artifacts. Just up the road, in Glasnevin, there are three worthwhile attractions: Glasnevin Cemetary, was founded by Daniel O’Connell as one of his first initiatives, post Catholic Emancipation in 1829, to provide a dignified place for Catholic burial. The Glasnevin Museum is new, and has superlative displays of Nationalist history. They also have a very good Geneology Department. The National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, date from the end of 18thC. Though relatively small, they contain an internationally-aclaimed collection of plants and three iconic Glasshouses, by Turner of Dublin, which have all been restored in the recent past. There is a nice café in the Gardens, and entry is free. The Gravedigger’s Pub, over-looking a Green, is not to be missed. It acquired its name from the fact that there used to be a hatch in the rear wall, through which the gravediggers were served. They do nice simple pub food, and one can sit outside on sunny days. Walk back into town, and stop at either the The Botanic Bar at Harte’s Corner or the Brian Boru, typicl local bars. The Whitworth, at Cross Guns Bridge, with nice food, is on the corner of the Royal Canal. Take a stroll east down the canal bank, and you will see swans, and moor-hens going about their business. At the next bridge, at Dorset Street, look out for the lifesize bronze statue of Brendan Behan, a local author. From here is just a few minute’s stroll up Belvidere Place, with its charming stepped terraces of tall Georgian houses, to Mountjoy Square. Another favourite is the Marino Casino, in Fairview/Clontarf, an early 18th century pleasure house, built to the design of Sir William Chambers, for Lord Charlemont, purely for entertaining, also just a few miles by bus, north of the city centre. Catch the DART, the coastal commuter train, heading north, at Tara Street Station, on the South Liffey quays, at Butt Bridge, and take a short ride. You have the choice of Howth (a working fishing village) or Malahide. Howth Demesne or Howth Head, behind the village will both afford walks with great views; the Harbour has a dozen restaurants along the quay- ranging from take-out fish and chips to the very upmarket. Book an early-evening window table at Aqua, and be astonished by the sunset over the coast, looking north-west. Another favourite of mine is Deep, midway along the quay (and do watch out for the local tame and greedy Harbour Seal, who begs shamelessly from the trawler men, who tie up alongside). Malahide is a charming village, with some of the most expensive urban residential properties in the country. Good food and good shopping are to be had here. On the edge of the village you will find Malahide Castle and Demesne, open to the public, which includes a renowned private Arboretum, as Milo de Malahide, the last of his family, (who had occupied the castle continuously since Norman times, in the 10th-12th centuries) was a significant plants-man. The Castle contains the National Portrait Collection, as was as magnificent furniture and other contents. There is a smart new branch of the AVOCA Shop and Café in the Courtyard. Oliver Dunne's restaurant, Bon Appetit, on St. James Terrace, has superb food in elegant, relaxed surroundings.(This restaurant had a Michelin star for years, but the chef/patron decided to return it, and simplify his life - a case of 'been there-done that'.) SOUTH: South of the city you will find Rathfarnham Castle, and its Berkeley Costume and Toy Collection (No. 16 bus). Marley Park is a little further, just at the foot of the Dublin Mountains. It has wonderful parkland with easy walks, and a magnificent walled garden with a nice cafe. The No.16 bus, from O’Connell Street will leave you close by. Powerscourt is at the edge of Enniskerry, its associated estate village, at the end of the No.44 bus route, which winds its way through the south side suburbs, into Wicklow, through the Scalp, a deep and picturesque glacial valley. The 19th century gardens are fabulous, and make great use of the 'borrowed landscape' beyond. The terrace and Nepture fountain are centred on the Sugarloaf mountain, which marks the beginning of the Wicklow Mountains. The Powerscourt Waterfall, part of the same estate, is a few miles further on, and there are beautiful, way-marked, woodland and moorland walks in the hills nearby. Do be mindful; these ‘mountains’ can be deceptive- while not high, they can be treacherous, as weather conditions can change in minutes. Stick to the way-marked paths, and do keep an eye on the weather. Take the DART south to Bray and Greystones - via Dun Loughaire, Dalkey and Killiney - all interesting villages, with many cafes and restaurants. Killiney Hill, with its eighteenth century obelisk at the summit, is a short climb that results in amazing views over Dublin Bay, and down into the Wicklow Mountains beyond. There is a nice pub in in the ‘village’- ‘The Druid’s Chair’. Dalkey is a charming village with old-fashioned shops and lots of nice pubs, cafes and restaurants. The local Dalkey Castle Heritage Centre, is worth checking out, and in the summer run a theatre programme, and walking tours. Bray Esplanade is a classic Victorian seaside amenity, sturdily built from local granite - the perfect place to enjoy an ice-cream. Campo di Fiori, either the Restaurant or the Café, both near the train station and the north end of the Promenade, are particular favourites of mine. If one is feeling energetic, one could contemplate the Cliff Walk from Bray to Greystones - 4miles/6km along the rough cliff path. Lots of nice pubs for a pint of Guinness at the other end, The Hungry Pear is my favourite café, among many. The DART will take you straight back into the city. But.. make sure to do it in the morning, as by mid-day the path is in shade, and it can be windy and cold. WEST: Travelling into the rich plains of Kildare, by the No. 67 bus route, you will come to the historic village of Celbridge, just twelve miles from the city centre. Castletown House is Ireland's finest Palladian mansion, and was saved from destruction by Desmond Guinness, in the early 1960's. He purchased it from the construction company who had acquired it. They intended to demolish it, to make way for a vast suburban housing estate. The Irish Georgian Society, founded by Desmond Guinness, restored the house and furnished it with the help of many volunteers and sponsors, and opened it to the public, a heroic task for a small membership conservation society. Today, it is in State ownership, and it is the flagship Georgian heritage property of Ireland. It is beautifully presented, and the parklands are undergoing restoration. A local bus, or the commuter train from Connolly Station in Amiens Street, will take one to Maynooth, a charming University town, with another magnificent Palladian mansion, Carton House, now operating as a very upmarket hotel and golf club. Lots of companies offer day-long coach tours. Some involve very long days, i.e, Cliffs of Moher in Clare and the Giant’s Causeway on the Antrim coast. Two more local, and very worthwhile ones are either: The Boyne Valley Tour (Newgrange Neolithic ( 5000 yr old World Heritage Site) / Mellifont Cistercian ruins- (12thC.)/ Monasterboice Early Christian (6th-8thC.) The Wicklow-Glendalough Tour (Powerscourt / Wicklow Mountains National Park and Glendalough (Glen of the Two Lakes) a 6thC. Early Christian site, in beautiful wooded valley. Details of both of these trips, and others, are available in the big black folder in the apartment.
A beautiful, historic residential square, built in 1790's, within 5-10 minutes walk of the city centre. Elegance and convenience combined with a bit of inner city grittiness. I have loved it all, since 1978!

  • A wonderful stay, location, apartment, comfort, all perfect, look forward to coming back, thanks for everything!

  • Karin's space was great. We enjoyed our stay and are forever grateful for her recommendations. She made our stay in Ireland an enjoyable one. Her rental was a perfect introduction to the Airbnb experience for my mom. She provided supplies for a yummy breakfast as well as comfortable bedding. I would stay again.

    Jonathan2012-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Karen is simply the best host I have ever had. She is extremely knowledgeable about Dublin and Irish history. She is generous with her time and will make you feel at home in Dublin. That includes some homemade bread and local jams. The apartment is very nice and located on a historic square withing walking distance of most of Dublin's attractions. If you aren't up to walking or want to go a bit farther, cabs were readily available out the front door. The only negative we had were a few late night or early morning domestic disputes on the street late Friday. Saturday and Sunday nights, although there was a huge celtic football match at the nearby stadium, were very peaceful and quiet. We would definitely stay again at Karin's apartment. A great spot and even better host (Website hidden by Airbnb)

  • A beautiful flat in an historic area, with the most welcoming host imaginable. The flat has been tastefully, sympathetically restored, with high-quality antique furniture and an extremely comfortable bed! Everything you could possibly need is provided - fresh ground coffee and cafetière, leaf tea, fresh sourdough bread - and it all adds up to an ideal place to stay in central Dublin. Very highly recommended.

    Rob2014-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Dublin with Karin in her flat was fantastic. We were there for three nights over St. Patrick's Day. We arrived to the flat about 2 hours earlier than expected but Karin graciously sat with us for over an hour, discussing the neighborhood, local restaurants and good haunts. She left us fresh fruit, banana bread and local eggs, which was a very nice touch. The flat is described perfectly and a beautiful place to stay - a 5-minute walk to O'Connell Street and about a 15-20 minute walk down to Temple Bar. Highly recommended for short stays in Dublin!

    Caroline2015-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Karin was welcoming and gracious. Her flats provide all the information you need to enjoy the city with all the comforts of home! She was there to make recommendations and to make sure we had everything that we needed. The grocery store was just down the street and the pubs were all within walking distance. Perfect location for getting around Dublin and see the city.

  • Great apartment. Very clean and great location. Good communication from host

    Donna2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • The Apartment is smaller than expected and it would be nice to have a few more household utilities.

    Janik2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • A modern and functional flat, not far from the center, but quite noisy as it is located on a busy street with car and ambulance noises. It is also tiny if two, but good-sized for one person.

    Johanna2019-07-26T00:00:00Z

  • very close to city center. Nice host.

    Jeffrey2018-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • The listing is just as described and looks like the pictures. It is perfectly located and the room is clean and has enough space! It is a little hard to find as the location on the listing pulls up a dry cleaners a couple blocks away from the actual apartment. The apartment complex name is not included in the description which also made it difficult to locate. The host is nearly impossible to contact unless you see her in the apartment. We messaged her multiple times during our stay all with no response, which was aggravating. A good location if you don’t mind 0 contact with your host!

Self contained basement apartment in an old Georgian house within walking distance of Dublin's City Centre. Close to Croke Park and not far from the airport with plenty of local pubs shops and restaurants as well as an award winning Community garden.
Built in 1848 this house is in a terrace of similar houses in an historic area within a 20min walking distance of our main thouroughfare O'Connell St and a short taxi ride from the airport and a two minute walk to Croke Park. Although close to the centre the house is in a quiet area. with our award winning community garden just behind the house. The basement is completely self contained along with it's own entrance. I have lived in Dublin all my life and am happy to assist with your itinerary.
I love my neighbourhood- it has a good mix of people from all walks of life but the architecture dates back to the Georgian period. There is plenty of history around here but also some good pubs and restaurants. Being so close to the city means we have all the options. We are also in walking distance to the sea at Clontarf. We have a great community spirit with our garden and other events organised locally.
