Double bedroom which includes a King Sized Bed. The bedroom is located at the front of the house, looking onto a quiet street. There is a conservatory and kitchen to the rear of the house which guests are more than welcome to make use of. The garden has a large very sunny patio area, ideal for sitting out in summer weather.
The house is 18 years old, I have lived in the property since new so has always been well looked after and maintained. I have been awarded super host two months running.
The neighbourhood is very quiet, especially during the day

  • A very warm welcome awaits you here in Dunbar. The accommodation was perfect for us and one of the most comfortable beds we have ever had when using accommodation away from home. The house was spotless and our hosts were so helpful in providing local information and anything we requested of them.     Private double room and attached single room with bunk beds and private bathroom. The house is just off the pleasant high street of Dunbar and is accessed through a typical historic corridor, so it protected from any traffic and noise. Edinburgh is 25 minutes away by train. The cottage is an ideal place to stay to enjoy the Edinburgh festival.

  • Elspeths house is in the perfect location in the middle of Dunbar and a short walk from the station. Very easy to get to Edinburgh but don't forget to look round Dunbar it is a friendly place with a lot of history, a harbour with 3 seals,a bridge to nowhere, a golf course, leisure centre and a great Italian restaurant and much more. Elspeth herself is and absolute treasure and a font of knowledge. She has a dog and a cat that are very friendly and are also happy for you to stay. Enjoy.

  • I have stayed at Elspeth's lovely place before and this time it was just as good as I remembered it. It is very convenient to everything in Dunbar and Edinburgh is easily reached from the local train station. The accommodation itself is very homely and in such a lovely quaint cottage style home. But - what makes the place is Elspeth herself - she is such a great host - very friendly and helpful; happy to spend time chatting to you if you so wish - but isn't intrusive- if that is what you want - it's your choice. I have had to stay in other AirB&Bs in Dunbar when Elspeth's wasn't available but hers is by far and away my favourite.

    A cosy home from home with lots of space to entertain and one good sized double room. Tucked away up an alley, the flat is just a stones throw from the harbour, a lively high street full of good shops , two museums and plenty of places to eat and drink. Dunbar is popular with walkers, cyclists and water enthusiasts and offers some fabulous leisurely walking on the John Muir Way and our beautiful East Lothian coast.
    A cosy home from home with lots of space to entertain and one good sized double room. The apartment is also advertised as a two bedroom , so it remains sensibly priced for those requiring one bedroom only. You may want to book early to avoid disappointment!

  • The flat was very spacious for two, the kitchen is the most impressive room with all you need for a stay. The design is simple and functional, nothing fancy or stylish but very well equipped, even 30 or so DVDs and lots of books for the rainy days. Lucy is a kind and fast contact, the check in is very easy thanks to the locker box at the door. It is a very quiet flat (except for the seagulls, they are everywhere in Dunbar) but also within 1 minute from the town centre, literally around the corner. All in all a definite recommendation.

We love to share our home & garden with like minded people. @Templelands is a listed building, sensitively restored. Exclusively for no smokers.
    Stay with us in our centrally located and comfy period Georgian home (@Templelands) conveniently located on Dunbar's historic High Street 3 minutes from the railway station and handy for Edinburgh and Glasgow in one direction and Berwick upon Tweed, Newcastle and London in the other. You'll be fending for yourself, but light breakfast is available on a DIY basis. If we're up to it, you may partake also in a delicious supper, if we are up to it. If it is offered a bottle of something "extra special" is adequate recompense. Our home and garden is compact but still has a spacious feel with 2 reception rooms - a drawing room which pleasant outlook over the sea and spectacular sunrises in summer and a morning room which if not blessed with full sun (in the afternoon) has a cosy woodburning stove. The kitchen and dining area looks out to the garden and sea, with everything you need to knock out a quick light meal (strictly no junk food please). All we are lacking is a dishwasher and microwave - we're a bit old fashioned and eccentric. Please use the recycling facilities. Direct access to the old walled garden is across the bridge. Mostly quiet apart from noisy gulls in summer that nest nearby. Swifts and swallows also play noisily in the sky, while gannets fly past at low level out at sea. Bats in the evening too. Everything is shared except your bedroom and bathroom, decorated with hand made lustre tiles by the ceramicist and author on the subject Margery Clinton, who lived here in the 80s and 90s. Very retro and seventies. If on holiday you'll have miles of coast to explore from Northumberland through to the Scottish Borders and East Lothian. Historic houses, gardens and estates a plenty to visit, and a haven for wild birds (the colony of gannets - the largest in the world - at the Bass Rock is essential viewing) Cycle, walk, surf, fish or dive, But if none of that is your bag, here are a number of conventional attractions too. The city is not far away and you will be spoilt for things to do, but can get away and be home in 20 minutes and avoid the tourist crush. Handy for the arts, business, research, contemplation and education too. Plenty to do if your space is feeling cramped. Plenty of local walks - long and short, cycle hire, surf or paddle boarding lessons.
    Dunbar is off the beaten track and off the traditional tourist trail, even though the father of environmentalism John Muir was born here. Plenty of sea walks and spectacular wildlife (100k gannets nest nearby and there are porpoises and dolphins for those patient enough to spot them). Much of the coast is protected by international legislation for its wildlife, but the geology is fascinating too. The countryside and hills are accessible by foot, bike and car and you'll find many hidden gems and sleeping beauties. We can be bribed and will reveal their location, but please don't publicise them to death (online that is). We have a little artisan bakery, run by local shareholders. There's a great veg shop a few doors away with great ready to eat - fresh fruit and veg (sometimes cheaper and always better tasting than the supermarkets - but pick carefully) and dozens of varieties of spuds, many local. Fish shop too. Avoid the overpriced minimarts run by the co-op-oly and McColls, Nisa. Eating out is limited to takeaways, but you can grab an authentic pizza on a Thursday from the travelling Blue pizza van man.
  • Ruth & Phillip provide a space that has the feeling of being in a beautiful country home with the added bonus of sea views. It was a treat to have access to their colourful garden and veggie patch. The room we stayed in is generously large and bed really comfy. Location is perfect to wonder around the historic walks along the seafront, easy train commute to Edinburgh and to feast on the on the peace and tranquility of this very friendly village. In addition to all that our hosts were warm, interesting, incredibly hospitable and very easy people to be around. We are still feeling the waves of their kindness. So yes, do not pass up an opportunity to stay and get to meet such wonderful people.

  • This was such a lovely place to stay. Ruth and Philip made us feel so welcome by making us tea with shortbread and strawberries on our arrival, which we enjoyed in their stunning garden. The house was just as described in the listing - a lovely place to stay. The bed was very comfortable and the bedroom could be blacked out nicely by the shutters and curtains on the window. The house is right on the Main Street, so ideal for exploring the town and getting around. Ruth and Philip were always very quick to respond any questions we had by email before our arrival and they were so welcoming. I'd heartily recommend them to all of my friends, and we hope that we might make it back there sometime soon too!

On top of that, Ruth provided us with amazing breakfast alternatives, even if we wanted to prepared our own. The kitchen and eating area is really ample so we were very comfortable. During check-out she was kind enough to allow us stay for an extra-hour so that we could have breakfast before continuing with our trip. Ruth was absolutely friendly and service oriented, prior and during our stay. I cannot think of a better host for us in Dunbar. Thank you very much for your hospitality and hope to see you again!

    Quirky, newly refurbished one bed apartment located in the heart of Dunbar town centre. It is perfectly situated for the beach, bars, coffee shops, restaurants and shops. The train station is a 5 minute walk away. The apartment sleeps two people in a king size bed and has a fabulous walk in shower, there is a very comfortable lounge and access to a private, south facing sun terrace off the kitchen which is an absolute sun trap. It is an ideal place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or a meal.
    The apartment is on the first floor (no lift). The lounge is separate from the bedroom and kitchen but easily accessed across a small entrance hall. Gas central heating, microwave, electric hob, washing machine, fridge, toaster, kettle, dishes and utensils. Free WiFi, Freeview TV with Amazon Prime and Netflix, DVD player, TVs in lounge and bedroom.
    Dunbar is an historic, market town in East Lothian, just 30 miles east of Edinburgh. It is an ideal base during the annual Edinburgh festival in August with a good train service. Dunbar was once a thriving fishing port and garrison town, it is now a peaceful, quiet haven for sailors, golfers and nature lovers. With the glorious Belhaven Bay on the doorstep and the distinct beaches of Tyninghame, Rockcliff, North Berwick and Gullane all less than half an hour away, there is a seaside space for everyone. Families will love East Links Farm Park with its new play fort and there is tennis, golf, surfing and swimming all in the town. For those who enjoy culture try the castles of Tantallon, Dirleton and, of course, Edinburgh. Walk on the John Muir Way, tracing the footsteps of the famous environmentalist. Go bird watching at North Berwick or Aberlady. Try beach riding at Seacliff or Longniddry or micro- lighting at East Fortune. And when your day is over, come back to the apartment and relax on your private sun terrace. There is lots to do but also peace to enjoy a relaxing break.   • This flat is in an ideal location with the High St. shops almost on the doorstep. We used it for our visit to the Scottish Open Golf which was only a 30 minute drive away. The "check in" was easy and the flat lovely and clean, with a very comfortable bed and super additional touches such as breakfast goodies in the fully equipped kitchen, shampoos etc. in the bathroom, including lovely towels. The added bonus is the outside space, where we sat for a glass of wine.

  • We had an excellent stay at Wendy’s place. Everything was as described yet our stay exceeded our expectations. The flat has a lovely seaside decor theme which we enjoyed. The bed is very comfy and we loved the terrace. We were very lucky with the weather and got to sit on the terrace and enjoy drinks and snacks. Wendy is a brilliant host. She answered all of my messages very quickly and she was extremely flexible and accommodating. She provides breakfast, toiletries, dvds and cds. There are many extra, thoughtful provisions which made us feel very welcome and valued as guests. The location is great too. We heartily recommend this place if you’re going to Dunbar.

Dunbar is nicely landscaped and great for surfing and golfing and takes its passions seriously. Very beautiful coastline for walking and also jogging with soft forest and sand dunes. A picturesque harbour full of history. The area is great for bird watching, boat trips possible to Bass rock for bird colony. I'd recommend The Rock hotel & restaurant with great menu and on the High St try a shmancy Haggis brunch panini with chili mayo ! Awesome. And It's only 21mins to Edinburgh... Enjoy,

  • Very cosy and clean apartment. On the whole I enjoyed my stay here. Ross was a great and very responsive host. He was quick to get in contact with Airbnb when the app glitched and gave me directions to an address that was almost identical except for two digits in the post code and therefore sent me on a 20min walk, alone and in the dark, away from the correct address. I have been assured that it’s all working now. I was disappointed that there was no WiFi but to be fair this is on the listing. I just didn’t even think to check as I assumed that everywhere has WiFi these days. If having no WiFi is not a deal breaker for you I’d recommend this flat.

Everything was brand new and so many small details had been considered. Fresh towels, comfy bed, milk in the fridge and well received basket of cereal & shortbread. The flat is a stones throw from the beach and Dunbar town centre.     Charming, private, ground-floor flat with the harbour, restaurants, high-street and beaches all a short stroll away. An ideal base for exploring the stunning East Lothian coastline, or the sights of Edinburgh, just a 20 minute train ride away.
    The ground floor flat features a well-appointed kitchen, comfortable living space, one double and one single bedroom. The bathroom has both a shower and a bath. Please note that the shower is accessed by stepping into the bath, and up one step. Full gas-central heating will guarantee a cosy stay in the colder months. There's plenty of parking on the harbourside, even if you have more than one car.
    The Old Harbour House is literally a stone's throw away from both of Dunbar's historic harbours and ancient ruins. There's always plenty to see on a walk around the neighbourhood with the day's catch coming in, the harbour seal saying hello, the lifeboat crew practising their drills, or you can just soak in the natural beauty. Whether you enjoy fine dining, a craft beer, or both, just a 30 second walk will take you to either Creel Restaurant or the Volunteer Arms. Dunbar high-street is a short walk away and features great craft-shops, an award winning community bakery, several cafes and restaurants and the birthplace of John Muir. A real effort is made in the town to support local businesses and the benefits of this are apparent. Dunbar leisure centre is about 1 minute away and has a swimming pool, gym, fitness classes, and a sauna. There are two golf courses in close proximity, a surf-school operates from Belhaven Beach and for adrenaline lovers, learn how to wakeboard at Foxlake - approximately a 15 minute drive from the Old Harbour House.

    Dunbar is a happy, super friendly town with a lively bustling high street that offers a good range of shops, two fascinating museums with plenty of pubs and places to eat. The high street runs parallel with the sea and beach with two lovely harbours. Dunbar has much history and also happens to be John Muir’s birthplace. This part of the coast is very popular with surfers and kayakers and the walking is undemanding and spectacular.

It is in a quiet location, just tucked up off a residential street, and is in one of the older character properties in the area. Having wi-fi was great, letting us check menus and opening times for local eateries and museums. A few minutes walk away are restaurants, takeaways, a community bakery and a small co-op, so fab for self catering. Dunbar is a lovely small town and this wee property is right in the heart of it.   • We had a lovely time in Lucy’s flat. a simple check in which came with advise on local pubs and restaurants (all the advise was spot on and we really enjoyed them). The flat is much bigger than it looks in the pictures and it feels very homely which we loved compared to staying in a stale hotel. Less than a minute down to the harbour then a lovely walk along the cliff tops to the beach north of Dunbar. Would definitely recommend staying here.

You can enter Harbour View via the steps to the front from the harbour side, or at ground level to the rear, the modern wooden floor and fresh décor give it a real homely feel. Spend your downtime in the spacious, bright open plan living area with everything that you need from comfortable seating in front of the TV, plenty of dining and a well-appointed kitchen allowing you to prepare your favourite meals for everybody to enjoy.   • We spent a lovely weekend in Dunbar. The house is ideally located and has stunning views over the harbour and great walks along the cliff tops. The house has been thoughtfully restored with carefully coordinated colour schemes and is very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the new sofa which had been installed that day! We appreciated too the thoughtful touches such as the bottle of Prosecco on arrival in the fridge and the toiletries provided. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything we needed provided.     I live in a beautiful sunny house with its own private garden - lovely for breakfast outside. The house is 5 minutes walk from the main East Coast railway station. 7 minutes walk to the East Beach in Dunbar and all local amenities including great restaurants, coffee shops etc. and a newly opened micro pub. If guests wish to visit Edinburgh it is only 20 minutes by train. I have previously been a airbnb host in Edinburgh but now live in Dunbar

    Light and spacious traditional stone built ground floor flat with private entrance in the centre of Dunbar. Situated in a quiet street central to all the amenities. With sea views and a small enclosed garden to the rear, this property is friendly and cosy, in a prime location and is suitable for couples or families.
    There are 2 double bedrooms , one at the front of the house and one at the rear. There is a single bedroom also at the rear. A single fold down bed (suitable for a child) and travel cot can also be made available. There is a dvd player with many movies to suit all ages including the children. There is a small box of toys for very young children and there is a small playpark in front of the property. There is on street parking and a small car park close to the property.
    Dunbar is a small fishing town and is the birthplace of John Muir, Scottish-American naturalist, author and early advocate for the preservation of wilderness in the United States. Our property forms part of the old John Muir town walk. The High Street, with many individual small shops, is a 2 minute walk. Dunbar train station, which is on the main London - Edinburgh line is a 5 minute walk and the beach and harbour are both a 5 minutes walk away. There are many beautiful beaches to visit in the surrounding area and an abundance of stunning coastal walks and cycles routes around the town. For young children, there is a small park in front of the property, with larger Lauderdale Park a short walk away. The Leisure Pool, complete with wave machine and flume can provide many hours of entertainment for all ages. Also, East Links family Park is a fantastic opportunity to get close to small farm animals and enjoy a short train ride through the park. There are fun activities like a climbing wall, trampolines, go karts and a play fortress within the family park. For the more adventurous, Foxlake Adventures provides cable wake boarding, a ropes course challenge as well as a newly installed zipline experience. There are 2 stunning golf courses in Dunbar. Both are links courses and whilst Winterfield is a delightful municipal course, Dunbar Golf Course is a championship course. There are many excellent golf courses nearby including Muirfield which hosts the Open Championship and is only a 20 minute drive. There are many lovely bars and restaurants in the town which are provided with produce fresh from the sea or surrounding farms. However if you fancy something further afield, the vibrant City of Edinburgh is only a 20 minute train ride away.

    A deceptively spacious beautiful two storey traditional stone cottage fully renovated internally to modern standards, decorated and fitted out to reflect its seaside location. Edinburgh city centre is as little as 20 minutes away by train. Situated on a quiet street in a Conservation Area between the High Street and the seafront, with parking place. The coast to coast John Muir Way is a short distance away. There are a number of famous golf courses, sandy beaches and tourist attractions nearby.
    The Wee Hoose is a recently refurbished period cottage that makes optimum use of the space available. It is an ideal base for a couple or small family. It has a private parking space to the rear. The property has full gas fired central heating with a Hive heating control system, thermostatically controlled radiators and a heated towel rail in the bathroom. There is free wireless broadband internet access. Accommodation comprises a hall with plenty of space for coats and footwear, off which opens a fully fitted kitchen and a separate Lounge/ Dining area. There is also direct access to the Lounge/Dining area from the Kitchen. The Lounge has a wall mounted Samsung smart TV with Bluetooth sound bar and a leather sofa and armchair that comfortably seat 4. It also has a dining area with an extendable dining table and 4 chairs. There are an additional 2 matching chairs on the first floor. The Kitchen is fitted with twin stainless steel sink, ceramic hob and oven, cooker hood, microwave, fridge/ freezer, washing machine and contains a good supply of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. We keep it stocked with washing up liquid, laundry soap and fabric conditioner that is suitable for sensitive skins. There are also a few recipe books should you tire of eating in the local restaurants and want to sample the wide range of local produce! There is a large cupboard off the Lounge with an iron, ironing board, clothes drying rack, high chair, vacuum cleaner, etc. Off the Kitchen to the back of the house is a small paved courtyard which catches the afternoon sun, with a two seater bench and a lockable shed containing a bistro set and space for your bicycles, etc. Adjacent to the courtyard is a private parking space for one car (marked “Wee Hoose”) with further free parking available nearby. Upstairs there are two Bedrooms with coomb ceilings and a Bathroom. Bedroom 1 has a double bed from which you can see the sea view through the front window, plus a Velux roof light, both with blackout blinds, and has a double wardrobe and other storage space. There is a seating area at the front end looking out to the sea, with a bookcase containing books about the sea, binoculars and a telescope. Bedroom 2 also has a Velux rooflight with blackout blind and two large single beds, storage cupboards and a hanging rail. The beds all have good quality orthopaedic mattresses. Although we do not supply a travel cot, there is ample space for one in either bedroom. The bathroom has a thermostatic shower over the bath, and a shower screen, a non- slip mat for the bath, a heated towel rail, assorted toiletries and plenty of storage for your own. We supply large hand towels for use by guests. There are socket outlets with built-in USB charging points in the Lounge and main bedroom. Safety features include a CO alarm in the Kitchen, interlinked heat and smoke detectors, emergency lighting in the stairwell, a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. Please note that we supply a safety gate rather than a stair gate, for use only across the entrance to the second bedroom. Because of the configuration of the space downstairs, it is easy to shut off access to the foot of the stairs, external doors, and the kitchen, using the internal doors.
    The town of Dunbar is on the North Sea coast of East Lothian, about 30 miles east of Edinburgh. The town is renowned for its high sunshine record, rugged coastline, sandy beaches and attractive countryside. It is steeped in history and was one of the most important Scottish Fortresses in the middle ages. Our grandson calls it Sea Glass beach! (Buckets and spades can be found in the shed). Other family fun attractions in Dunbar include East Links Family Park and Foxlake Adventures. East Links Family Park is a farm-based activity park suitable for all ages. A train safari runs through paddocks of friendly farm animals and there are lots of activities including go karts, trampolines, soft play ball blast area and a tree-level multi activity fortress. Foxlake Adventures, Scotland’s first wakeboard cable tow is great fun for beginners and experienced wakeboarders. They have also opened a unique ropes challenge taking place over water. Dunbar is home to a leisure pool with wave machine, beach area, flume and other exciting water features. It also has a health suite with sauna, solarium and steam room, and a fully equipped gym.     Fully equipped, bright and spacious two bedroom 2nd floor flat situated in Dunbar Harbour conservation area.
    Easy walking distance to the the High Street, Leisure Pool, train station etc. Lots of good restaurants, bars and cafes are also within easy reach. Situated in the conservation area the flat overlooks picturesque Dunbar harbour. Living/Dining room with sea views. Smart TV. From this room there is a lovely sea view over to the rolling countryside of East Lothian. Bedroom 1 - King size bed Bedroom 2 - single bed with extra trundle bed if required. Fully equipped kitchen with washing machine and dishwasher. Electric oven and hob. Large fridge/freezer. Bathroom with electric shower over bath. The whole flat has been newly decorated and furnished. It is entered via a clean and bright communal stair and is on the top (2nd) floor. There is free parking at the harbour as well as one designated parking space for the flat. One well behaved dog is allowed by arrangement with the owners. There is an extra cleaning charge of £25 if there is a dog present and also it must not be left in the flat on its own.
    Dunbar is a picturesque town with a great mix of people. There are interesting shops, restaurants and bars and also some regular festivals and events. Lifeboat Day is always a great event to attend and the Dunbar Christmas Lights put many larger towns' displays to shame. Dunbar has a great deal to offer visitors. It is on East Lothian's Golf Coast and has two courses - Winterfield and Dunbar which is an Open Championship qualifying course. The Coast to Coast Surf School is situated at Belhaven beach on the outskirts of the town and offers surf coaching and paddle board sessions. Foxlake Adventures is a 5 minute drive and one of the UK's biggest wakeboarding centres. It also offers rope courses and a zip wire. East Links Family Park continues to please with its selection of animals (farm and more exotic), railway and other activities.

    Welcome to our holiday home, a spacious & bright 3 double bedroom apartment, located on Dunbar High Street, a busy seaside town in East Lothian. Ideal location for golfers, with Dunbar Championship links course and Winterfield links course both in Dunbar. There are also beautiful beaches, country walks in John Muir Park, a great family park with lots for the kids, along with picturesque Dunbar harbour within walking distance. A 20 minute train ride takes you into Princes Street Edinburgh.

A great location for visiting the lovely East Lothian coast, with the buzz of Edinburgh within easy reach (We drove to Ingliston park and ride and took the tram into the city, £8.50 family ticket great value and no hassle).     Our wee (small) self-catering Garden Flat at Templelands, Dunbar is available for Holiday Lets only. Suitable for singles, couples, or small families or 2 sharing. Recommended max group size of 3 e.g. 2 adults and 1 child. The flat comprises the LOWER 1/3 of a listed Georgian townhouse, known as the garden flat (as in the olden times it was the main access to the garden). Once the kitchens and servants quarters, now a cosy/compact self-contained cottage-like accommodation with 1 double bedroom and 1 twin room, and a galley kitchen cum sitting / dining area, furnished unpretentiously in a shabby chic style. The garden is shared with us, but we'll always try to give guests priority use. Our pictures using a portrait lens, so that we portray size accurately. It is hard to convey size with a wide angle. The space has a un-refurbished country cottage look and feel, with lots of old fashioned charm, which along with the ever changing northern light attracted us. It is probably not going to be suitable if you're planning a "stay at home holiday", although some have visited us for respite and recovery. Others have loved the garden so much that they have missed out on the local wildlife secrets, old sleeping beauties and other hidden garden gems that the East Lothian countryside conceals. The bathroom has a full sized bath - but no one has baths these days. The powerful Mira shower has hot water on demand, not a piddly electric thing. The flat has its own private entrance to the street (through a lockable gate down some steps). Guests have free access to the small quiet Templelands garden at the rear (up some steps). The pleasant outlook and glimpses of the sea are just a taste of what the locality conceals. The garden is a working garden, so take care. It is a bit formal (the plantings and curious garden objects) but naturalistic (we let nature take over.) The kitchen is equipped with an electric hob and everything you need to cook at home. There's a dishwasher and a washer-drier. But we recommend that you use the old-fashioned line for wonderfully sea-fresh clothes. The TV is minuscule and has access to iPlayer and something called Netflix. There is an ancient DVD player, and you can enjoy our small collection of obscure old films and a smattering of books (or borrow, if you promise to return). The wifi (is that how you spell it?) is apparently good too (up to 80Mbit). Templelands is a 200+ year old property - a pair of townhouses, built in the late Georgian style when Dunbar was wealthier. There are thick and substantial walls and working shutters. The elegant ashlar block frontage of the property gives way to the more rustic rubble wall of the Garden Flat, and to the rear there is a contrasting red sandstone rubble wall, more typical of the local vernacular (in truth the harling came down some years ago and it is expensive to reinstate in the traditional style). Lots of charm and wonky features, reflecting its age and multiple past uses, including a doctor's surgery and artist's ceramics studio. It is not luxurious but far from soulless. Watch the gannets fly by from the garden - the Bass Rock is the largest colony on earth just around the corner. Or just gaze at the swifts screaming in ever diminishing circles in the evening sky, and bats too. Some guests take breakfast/lunch or tea on the patio or by the pond. Sun from early morning and into the early evening. Perfect sunrises in summer (4 and 5am unfortunately) and moonrises in autumn, again straight from the sea. For perfect HDR sunsets take a short walk away towards Belhaven. Miles and miles of wildlife-rich and geological cornucopia coast to St Abbs and beyond. All this is protected by European designations. The flat and garden are suitable for non-smokers (we are super strict about no smoking anywhere - even outside on the street) and we do operate a strict no pets policy. This includes alligators, snakes and other reptilians, however cute you believe they are. In case the above was not clear, sleeps abs. max 3 including infants (from 10 years letting experience we don't want to oversell and disappoint).
    Unlike clone towns in much of Britain this town has a variety of local facilities, though they are are not always so well known. The town is a designated Conservation Area, a designation designed to encourage care of the built heritage. Maybe it is not so well known, because the external condition and fabric of very many buildings is poor. But this belies a high concentration of Listed Buildings, and over 135 are listed by national designation. A great many line the High Street and Old Town. There are some fine A listed buildings, but the most magnificent of them all is the c1900 tenement next door to Templelands, and also B listed, which has the symbols of the union a Lion and Unicorn peering over passers by. We also like the 1904 urban baroque Post Office next door, unlisted. Like many seaside towns, tourism is no longer a mainstay industry. Tourism is now caravan park orientated. Nor is Dunbar anything like North Berwick. But that is why we like it here. The working harbour, once the mainstay of the local economy is busy enough, though it is great pity that the crab, langoustine and lobster are more popular in France where most of it is exported. :-( The Battery, now restored (amazing what a million quid will buy), Dunbar Castle (derelict) and Cromwell Harbour have a fascinating history. Visit them and the the colony of Kittiwakes, by far the most beautiful of the gull family (Rissa). BTW don't feed the herring gulls, or they will eat your lunch and steal your babies. Gulls breed in large numbers in the town, on the cliff-like tenements. We counted a dozen young chicks in 2019, all visible and very audible from the garden. All gulls are protected by UK law. On arrival a short walk down to the harbour to de-stress is highly recommended and if the evening is good, discover the complex geology and outcrops which give rise to a myriad of colourful rockpools, havens for all sorts of small sea life. Most days you'll see lots of birdlife, and seasonally nesting kittiwakes, gannets flying by or terns fishing, curlew, plovers, and a myriad of shorebirds, and keep an eye out for the very occasional pod of dolphins or porpoise (anywhere from Musselburgh to St Abbs). The rockpools are delightful. The coast is of international importance for birds and wildlife habitats, a stone's throw from St Abbs, special also for its marine life. Diving, sea fishing, great surfing, walking and increasingly cycling friendly (you can rent kit when you arrive). Also golf, but you probably knew that? The seashore and the harbour are 5 mins walk or less. A number of unexceptional eateries and pubs all within a short walk, but the Blue Pizza comes recommended. No car required. Shops include fishmonger, butcher, friendly fruit and veg shop with organic offerings, and other fair trade outlets and an artisan baker. Railway station just a 3 minute walk away, with Edinburgh 18-25 mins travel time. Connections to villages by bus. Local bike hire. Co-wheels a nationwide car-club. Nightlife is not as family friendly as it could be, but a number of our guests loved the experience all the same - please ask. Takeaways a plenty. There are an increasing number of grown up events throughout the year, art, music and more.
  • Fantastic little flat in the heart of Dunbar, only a short stroll away from the swimming pool, and just round the corner from the railway station so easy to take the train into Edinburgh for a day trip. Unfortunately we didn’t meet Ruth during our stay but Phillip was there to greet us on arrival and was most welcoming and helpful. The flat was clean and comfortable, and the garden was just beautiful.

  • The flat was lovely and Ruth and Philip made us feel very welcome. We were met on arrival and given a tour of the flat and (stunning) garden. As well as a fully kitted out flat (and very well kitted out kitchen) there was a gift of fresh fruit, home made marmalade and artisan bread - lovely touches! They were both very responsive to our needs and very friendly when we met them again on our last day. We enjoyed our trip and would happily stay there again, and recommend to our friends. In terms of Dunbar, it is a very nice coastal town, with some nice local beaches and parks - great for young kids. A bit quiet on Sundays with most shops closed but overall a relaxed atmosphere. The flat is really well situated with all amenities close by.

  • A relaxing and pretty flat with everything we needed for a week away from it all. The weather was of course wet and windy but it was easy to get cosy with the old style shutters, throws etc. A lovely welcome with a bottle of wine, delicious cake and little added touches, including the lovely fragrance of real lavender through the flat. We had everything we needed to cook our Christmas Dinner, along with a number of other family meals. Dunbar is a little town with a few shops, mini supermarkets and pubs, and getting into Edinburgh was easy with the station just 5 minutes away. The beach was great for brisk walks and shaking away the cobwebs. Our hosts were attentive but not intrusive, living upstairs, it was possible for them to respond quickly when we got stuck with something. Highly recommended
