Quirky, beautiful & self contained holiday let. Cosy converted wash-house, set within grounds of stunning Georgian townhouse in arty, small market town. Gateway to the Peak District National Park. Double bed on sleeping platform. Microwave & toaster. Use of garden, courtyard and new for this year our cozy Garden room with record player , books and seats with sheepskin throws to chill out in .
  • Stayed at the Wash House from June 10th - 12th to escape the city for the weekend and take in some walking around the Derbyshire Dales. we were made to feel right at home the moment that we walked through the door of Steve and Sue's beautiful Georgian house. After a bit of a chin wag with Steve and some recommendations for things to do around the local area we were shown to the wash house, one of two gorgeously decorated out-houses. After that we were shown the garden area, which unfortunately due to bad weather we were unable to make the most of. In one of the draws is an old school record player complete with some of Steve's favorite LP's which were great to have on while we were in the room. just a stones throw from the house are some lovely pubs and restaurants and just a short drive away is some picturesque walks around the peak district. A recommendation of Steve's was to head to Monsal head which did not disappoint and provided some dramatic scenery. all told we had a lovely weekend and even the rain couldn't dampen our spirits. U would not hesitate to recommend the wash house to anybody and we look forward to visiting again next year. Hopefully the weather will be a bit kinder next time.

  • The Wash House is a stylish bijou bolthole in a vibrant little town. Really cosy, eclectic space, gorgeous decor inc flagstone floor (although would recommend slippers!). Wirksworth is definitely worth a visit, very close to Matlock Bath too. Thanks for having us!

  • Throughly enjoyed our stay - Harriet was very helpful, the wash house was very clean and well located. Thank you! :-)

  • Steve was a really good host, he welcomed us happily and described Wirksworth and surroundings. Then he gave us some advices in terms of visits or restaurants. The Wash House has what you need: it's cosy, good wifi, nice facilities and lovely people. The sleeping platform is fine for most, but if you have any mobility issue it might not be for you... Beautifully furnished, we really enjoy the quirkiness of this appartement!

  • The Wash House is a special place. The hosts Steve and Sue are not only very kind and helpful but have great attention to detail with thoughtful little touches such as chocolates and lovely soap. We'd recommend The Wash House and would love to return . Wirksworth is a fantastic little village to explore with great restaurants and pubs. We also recommend 'The Northern Light Cinema' - a great atmosphere, really friendly staff and comfy seats.

  • Steve and Sue are the perfect hosts. Great place to stay, great tips on where to go from Steve and made to feel welcome from the start. Will be back in the summer!

  • We had a fantastic stay at The Wash House and loved how quirky and cosy it was. Having the bed on the mezzanine was a novelty and fun for a few nights. We had plenty of space, and really enjoyed the record player. Nice shower, beautiful garden, and sweet welcoming touches. Lack of oven didn't affect us - we used the microwave to make porridge and we had the kettle for tea :) plus we enjoyed eating on the local highstreet - there's a good pizza place, a number of pubs and a lovely French restaurant we visited twice. Wirksworth is a fab location if you have a car to visit Bakewell, Matlock and want to walk (we followed the nine ladies route). Thank you Steve and Harriet for making us very welcome, would highly recommend for a long weekend away.

  • Such a great stay, Steve and Sue were so welcoming and helpful. The wash house was decorated fantastically and very clean. Had everything we needed! Really great location, so close to Wirskworth. Would definitely recommend!

  • Alistair and Christine made us feel so welcome in their lovely cottage and were extremely friendly and recommended things that we could do. The cottage was a really great place to stay and perfectly nestled in a tiny village - with its own village shop and pub! Winster is in a great location and we were able to travel on to Chatsworth, Bakewell and Stanage Edge. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants to get away from it all and enjoy a beautiful little cottage and wood burning fire!

  • The flat was immaculate and such a pretty cottage in a lovely area of the peaks! We really enjoyed our girls weekend, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a stay in the peak District. Our host was great with communication and the homemade cake was such a lovely touch Thanks Jane:)

    Katy2017-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely little house, in a good location and maintained by a great host. The house had everything we needed for a short stay, including a hairdryer, DVDs and decent WiFi. The house is even better in person than the images make out. Wirksworth had quite a few decent places for such a small town. The Blackshead is a great little pub to go for a quite drink. The Featherstar is also a great place for a drink, it's a bit more lively but they have a wider selection of beers Mercia was a great place to go for lunch - I'd highly recommend it. Ginos, which is just at the end of the street to the house, is brilliant. The shop looks a little tired and it does have a slight air of madness, but the pizza that we had from there was incredible - don't judge a book by its cover. Jane was a great host with clear and friendly communication.

  • We had a fantastic Christmas away from home in Jane's beautiful cottage. It is located right in the middle of the village & is the perfect place for a getaway on the edge of the Peak District. Our stay was great, the cottage is beautifully styled and a must stay for the area.

    Laura2017-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • The communication from Jane was superb right from the start. The cottage is simply stunning, it's beautifully decorated and so well equipped. There is nothing Jane hasn't thought of, from the beautiful cake on my arrival and the welcome card to the local information about Wirksworth. She really is a super host and I can't recommend her highly enough. I can't wait to stay there again in the future.

  • We had lovely three days in Number 10. The cottage was stylish and cosy, with thoughtful touches and all the amenities you could want for a break in the Peaks. The cake was delicious, and the log burner welcome after a long walk in the snow. No fuss with check in and check out - easy to follow instructions. Jane was a great host.

  • A very enjoyable stay in this cosy and well-equipped cottage. Anya goes out of her way to provide all you need for a comfortable holiday. Toodles would be a lovely cottage to visit at any time of year and there is so much to do locally that you would never be bored.

    Janet2016-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is absolutely beautiful, and the hosts were so easy to deal with throughout the process and even afterwards to check if we had a good time. They left lovely little gifts and essentials which made us feel really welcome. The surrounding area is beautiful with plenty to see and a short walk to Matlock and Matlock Bath. The highlight for me was the log burning fire. Plenty of wood was left to make lovely cosy fires, there was even a fire ready to be lit when we arrived, which was a really nice touch. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. A perfect New Year's Eve.

    Chris2015-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Four of us had a fantastic stay at Toodles and it serves as the perfect base for exploring the Peak District. The cottage was just the right size and had everything you could possibly think of to enjoy your stay. It came included with towels, tonnes of kitchen utensils and pots and pans and they kindly stocked us up with fire wood for the cosy long burner. Thanks so much for having us, I would absolutely recommend.

    Alice2015-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We were made to feel very welcome by Anya at Toodles Cottage, Cromford via emails and texts. We found the cottage warm and comfortable, and it was easy to relax and feel at home. The interior is stylishly furnished. It was a great place to stay.

    Peter2015-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. It is very comfortable and has everything you would need (including a well stocked kitchen). The hosts have clearly taken a lot of pride in arranging and decorating it, with lots of nice little thoughtful touches. The cottage is on a reasonably busy road but we didn't notice much, even though I am a light sleeper! The location is perfectly situated for the Peak District and Cromford is a beautiful little village with a great butchers and a choice of pubs.

    Erica2015-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Toodles Cottage is absolutely beautiful and was the perfect setting for our few days away from work and the city. It is perfectly positioned amongst stunning countryside with a host of activities (walks, Chatsworth, Matlock town etc) on the doorstep and all the local amenities you might need. We did not get to meet Anya, however that's only because everything is so well explained and we were so well equipped with what we needed to know! The garden was an added bonus and the cottage is well stocked with the basics, and then some. I would absolutely recommend staying here and we had a lovely time.

    Cazz2015-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic weekend in a wonderful little cottage! Great location with really easy access to lots of nearby sites. Beautifully done out with everything you could want for a break and more! Highly recommend!

    Grace2016-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • We could not fault the cottage at all. It was very warm and homely and was very neat and clean. The cottage was very well looked after and well equipped. The 2 information books were extremely useful as we did 2 of the lovely walks in there during our stay. All 4 of us would definitely stay at the cottage again and will highly recommend it to anyone.

    Matt2015-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon was welcoming. She kindly left some basic provisions in the kitchen, which was well equipped, and the flat had everything you may need , including a spectacular view. Matlock Bath is in a steep sided valley and the flat , which is very private , was right at the top of the hill. The car journey is fine but you would have to fit to walk up from the town. I think it is a good choice for a holiday as there is plenty to do locally and the area is beautiful .

Parking tight-but had no problems. supplied with soaps/wash liquid/milk tea etc. Nice touch-good location for travel-which increases the rating. Walking distance to fish & chips! Sanja2018-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lucy has a wonderful cosy cottage. We didn't want for anything, everything we needed was available including an abundance of games to play as a family. The cottage was clean and very presentable. We love the peak district and found this to be a great location to explore from. As described there are steep stairs inside and outside but we didn't find this too much of a problem. The cottage and surroundings are beautiful. Definitely worth a visit!

  • Lucy is a fantastic host. The cottage is even nicer than the photos. Immaculately clean and furnished beautifully will definitely be recommending to friends and family and would love to come again.

  • Lucys place is lovely! The cottage is beautifully decorated and a great place to stay. Lucy is a great host, very helpful and accommodating. I would highly recommend!

  • Had a lovely three night stay here and would certainly go back! We found the cottage to be exactly as described; cosy, clean and extremely well equipped. All of the furniture, utensils and crockery appear to be virtually brand new, along with the kitchen itself. Parking directly outside the cottage was never a problem for one car but would imagine it might be tricky to find parking for a second. The cottage is on quite a busy road but traffic noise is not disturbing due to double glazing. The Boat Inn and the Greyhound hotel are both within a few minutes walk and we can recommend both. The food at The Greyhound was incredible! Overall a lovely place to stay and a good base from which to explore the Peaks.

  • We were a family of staying in the cottage for 3 nights. The cottage is set in an idyllic location right in the heart of the village. Linda is a great host, very quick to respond and forthcoming with advice and suggestions. Cottage is clean and well equipped. We had a brilliant time and will come back. We spent many hours (and pounds!!) in Scartjin Books which is a lovely bookshop just a few doors away.... And Huntley Green just down the road serves up fantastic food, cakes and coffee!

    Keng2015-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was just as described: cosy and equipped with everything we needed for our short break. We loved the log burning stove and especially the good board game collection! It was in a great location near a fantastic bookshop and within walking distance of a couple of nice pubs. It was also well placed for lots of nice walks in the surrounding area. Linda was very helpful and responded really quickly and comprehensively to all our queries.

    Kate2014-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous location, loverly little cottage and very comfortable. Plenty of room and two bathrooms was great. Nice clear instructions and Linda checked to see everything was Ok. Great time and excellent place to stay!

    Peter2015-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is really well presented and in a beautiful setting. The description is accurate and although the kitchen is small the rest of the cottage feels spacious. Linda provided us with all the information we needed and replied to questions promptly. Plenty to do in the village and surrounding areas.

    Jane2015-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Millers cottage is a place to fall in love with! We felt very at home, and there was absolutely everything we needed. The kids loved the steep steps.Linda was very helpful in answering our questions quickly by mail.also the neighbours were very friendly and helpful. Cromford is historically a very interesting place. The guided tour in Cromford mill is to recommend, also the local ice cream.curry in The Boat Inn is delicious. We should have stayed longer, as there are so much things to do and explore!

    Esther2015-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful cottage and exploring the quaint village of Cromford. The cottage had everything we needed for a lovely, relaxing weekend in the countryside. Particularly love the wood burner! Would definitely recommend staying here. Linda was helpful, considerate and provided everything we needed to feel welcome and at home in the cottage.

    Jessica2014-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house in a lovely spot! Log burner was great and the house had everything we needed. Kitchen was tiny but worked for a short break. Beds were really comfy, although there were a few lumpy pillows! Overall a great stay.

    Anne2015-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at the cottage in Cromford! The house was small, but tidy and nicely decorated. Unfortunately, the wi-fi was not working during our stay, but these things happen. Also, the fireplace was out of order, but we wouldn't have wanted to use it at summer anyway. Our host always responded quickly to our messages, mostly about the wi-fi and tried to sort it out already during our stay. From the local sights, we can recommend Speedwell cavern, Chatsworth stately home and the town of Matlock Bath. Cromford is a nice and compact town. It had most of the shops and services we needed at close proximity.

Set in the heart of a beautiful quaint stone built UNESCO village full of shops, pubs, restaurants. No hill to climb as I’m right in the centre. Bed settee, brand new from Ikea and is clean and comfy. Bedding is put away underneath. Quick to get out. It’s huge. Please note that I have the whole holiday cottage available for rent for larger families at school holiday times., however, by renting just the small snug, I can offer a cost effective stay to couples and single travellers. I live in the other side of the cottage myself but there will be little noise as the cottage has thick stone walls and I sleep on the 3rd floor. I have 2 little dogs who may on occasion bark if someone comes to the door, but I keep that to a minimum, and have sound proofed the adjoining locked door. My garden at back. Which you can share which is ideal for dogs and has a Moroccan gazebo, decking seating area, pizza oven (by request extra charge)and fire pit. This is located around the back of the property, down the drive. It is secure for dogs to play in. The drive can be used to drop off luggage and by negotiation with the owner. Chip shop. Antique shop. Cafes at the canal. The boat Pub has live bands every Friday. Right on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Matlock Bath 15 minute walk. ( Cromford is quieter and in my opinion has nicer pubs and restaurants). 20 minute drive to Chatsworth. Haddon hall. Live bands at the boat Pub every weekend. Thu night quiz. Great food. See Facebook. Barley Mo Bonsall a short 3 minute drive or steeper walk is the most quirkiest Pub I’ve ever known. My friend runs it, amazing bands every Saturday. Yearly hen race. Attracts a quirky eclectic crowd. Food fantastic. A real heart of the Peak village Pub and always a fantastic experience. (On Facebook too).
  • Amazing, quirky and unique cottage! I stayed for 3 nights with my partner and my dog and we had a fantastic time. Debora was so friendly, as were her two adorable pooches, who welcomed my cheeky terrier into the pack. The garden and Morrocan-esque gazebo seating area is a beautiful addition to the inside space. We were lucky enough have great weather, and drinking wine by the outdoor fire in the evening before retiring to the comfortable (and huge!) sofa bed made for a fabulous first night. The kitchen is well equipped, and thoughtful and practical touches like tea, wine and condiments were provided. The location is handy if arriving by train, or driving, finding a parking space was no issue. An ideal base for walks by the canal, the Black Rocks and just a stroll to the shops, deli and pubs! (The Boat Inn and Scarthin Book shop cafe I can HIGHLY recommend for scrumptious food!!) But what made our stay truly memorable was the warm welcome and hospitality we received, thank you Deborah and we will most definitely be back soon!

  • Stayed for the bank holiday weekend with my girlfriend and Deborah was so lovely, welcoming and accommodating with everything. The space is a great space for two people who want privacy with good kitchen facilities a lovely comfy pull out sofa bed and nice bathroom. It was a pleasure to stay here and we definitely will stay again in the future

    Nathan2018-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little place. Deborah was great. The cottage was really cute - very warm and the shower and oven etc all very good. We had the luxury of the drive way space for parking as well, not sure this is always available. Deborah was kind enough to do a last minute booking for us when another place has cancelled and she hadn't been expecting guests. The place was spotless despite this. Did result in us not having sheets for the pull out bed - but I'm sure that's not the norm! Thanks again Deborah.

Set in a conservation area, this rather quirky, converted 18th century stable, renovated in 2018, looks out on a lovely cobbled courtyard, away from the road. There is a charming private garden and the town centre is just a minute walk downhill. Wirksworth is very close to the attractions of the glorious Peak District, as well as having a good range of pubs, restaurants and shops.
Downstairs has a useful kitchen corner with microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge. There is a small dining table, and a sitting area with TV, DVD, CD and radio facilities, with a few CDs and DVDs - but you might like to bring your favourite CDs and DVDs. Upstairs has a small but cosy double bed and a shower room with toilet and wash basin. The exposed sandstone walls give the bedroom a special charm, and the room is approached up a lovely oak staircase.
Greenhill is a well known and much loved part of Wirksworth, but quite a climb! The Star DIsc, at the top of the hill, is a wonderful instillation, showing the main stars. Also there are some good walks that start at the top of the hill.

Cromford is forever associated with Sir Richard Arkwright as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Arkwright's first mill, just off the A6, is undergoing long-term restoration by the Arkwright
  • We had a fantastic stay. Deborah was a great host - easily contactable and left some very thoughtful welcome goodies for all of us - including the dog! This is a lovely cosy, quirky cottage and we would definitely stay again. Thank you Deborah!

  • What a charming little cottage, the decour and the surrounding areas of this place were fantastic. Deborah was a brilliant host, easy to get in contact with and gave some great suggestions on where to go and what was in the area. Will definatly be coming back here to take advantage of the wonderful walks and scenery. Would be a great place for dog lovers and those who admire the beauty of the peak district.

  • I've never used airbnb before. I had a lovely message from Deborah about our booking which was nice. Everything went to plan, when we arrived found it easy to find and was in a good location. Cottage lovely - lots of nice details and nice welcome gift from Deborah. We found it comfortable and a good base for Matlock, Bakewell and Chatsworth farm shop. Thanks Deborah for letting us use your house - will be back in the summer hopefully!

  • Lovely quirky cottage in a great location. Lots of room and cozy place to stay. All though we never met Deborah, she was an excellent communicator via messages when we had a few issues on trying to use the TV.. Will definitely return and highly recommend.

  • We had a lovely stay at Deborah's place and she was a very accommodating host with good communication. We found everything we needed in the house and loved Cromford! Lots of pubs, restaurants, cafes a couple of chip shops and a local store and deli, so plenty to choose from for breakfast or on an evening and the locals are all very friendly. I would especially recommend The Boat Inn for both a relaxing drink and an evening meal. The cottage is ideal for those wanting to explore the surrounding countryside, the history of the Mills and even go further afield, as it's just off the a6 so easy to drive around. It's not a countryside setting being in the village and on the main road, but the road was quiet on an evening so the traffic noise didn't bother us and we prefer to be near places to go on an evening, so that suited us perfectly. The only downside I could say was that I didn't find the bed comfortable and it was very creaky every time I moved so I didn't sleep great. But it didn't spoil the stay and it was a lovely base for a few days.

Rose Cottage is a cosy space, only a stones throw away from the High Peak Trail. Easy access to Wirksworth, Cromford, Matlock, Ashbourne, Bakewell, Chatsworth and all that the Peak District has to offer. Great location for many walks and bike rides.
Rose Cottage is a grade II listed cottage recently sympathetically renovated to incorporate modern day requirements. Kitchen area includes cooker, fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. There are two TV’s, both with DVD players and one with Netflix. Log burner for cold winter evenings and a cosy lounge to relax in. Placed within easy reach of what the Peak District offers Rose Cottage is a comfy place to relax and chill.
Middleton is surrounded by beautiful countryside and views. With easy access to many towns, attractions, pubs and restaurants this makes Rose Cottage an ideal place to stay and explore.
  • The cottage is perfect for couples or small familys. Jane was quick to respond and helpful, i would highly recommend a stay here. They have put together a book of the area with things to do etc which was helpful. I liked that there was netflix, dvds, coffee machine and cosy log fire; there was also a amazon echo dot in the kitchen which i've never used before but loved it. I would definatley stay again.

    Andrew2018-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Just returned home from a lovely stay in Jane’s cottage. Was a shame about the snowy weather preventing us from getting out much but the cottage more than made up for that. Lots of extra touches like jars of sweets and butter/milk in the fridge. Jane replied to our questions very quickly and was a lot of help, even taking us to the train station when public transport wasn’t running! Would definitely recommend and would love to return one day.

  • The cottage is so lovely! It’s very modern but with a rustic, authentic touch. Everything has been thought of, and there are so many little thoughtful touches that make it feel homely! It’s in a great location, and very close to some great walks! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it, definitely could have stayed for longer in this pretty, cosy cottage :)

  • This cottage is very well located with a pub serving meals literally over the road. There is a lovely walk to the next village of Wirksworth, where there are shops and several points of interest. The local people that we encountered were all very friendly. The cottage was very easy to find, and was absolutely charming. I would recommend it to anyone.

  • Wonderful place with a great host. Fantastic attention to detail in the cottage, with lots of nice touches such as milk, butter, sweets, crisps and a starter fire pack for the log fire. Also an iPod with a docking station and amazon echo. Jane responded to my numerous emails in super quick time and made local suggestions for nice places to visit. We ate in the pub just across the road, literally not 50m away and had a lovely meal and a few drinks. Thanks Jane, great stay.

  • Wow what can I say. Janes place is amazing, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and curled up in front of the log fire in the evenings after being outdoors each day with a lovely bottle of wine... the extra touches were great mini jars of sweets to nibble on and muffins and pancakes left for breakfast with real butter.... can highly recommend Janes cosy cottage xx

A beautiful cosy cottage just 2 minutes walk from the centre of Wirksworth whilst located at the edge of some of the best walks in the Peaks. We have a walled front garden for the morning sun and an enclosed rear garden for evening barbecues and views over the hills. Inside is comfortable with wifi, TV with recorder (and some saved films). The log-burner, rolltop bath and country kitchen add to the charm.
We've added as much kitchen equipment as we find we need when we stay; plenty of pots and pans, a hand blender, toaster, various implements (corkscrew included!) and we leave a welcome tray for you with some tea, coffee and biscuits so you can relax as soon as you arrive. Fresh towels and bedding, warm duvets and comfy mattresses make for a peaceful night's sleep for all guests. There's a washer/dryer in case you want to do your laundry, a freezer too in the outhouse and gas central heating and unlimited hot water throughout the cottage.
Wirksworth truly is the Jewel of the Peak; a great town with pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars, a recently-opened arthouse cinema and with plenty of curiosity shops, a lead-mining museum tucked away, a steam railway and not a single high-street chain. Should you choose to, you can get all you need from the town for your holiday without using the car. Carsington Water and other attractions are only a short cycle or drive away, with major towns and attractions just a stone's throw (Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne, Chatsworth House, even Alton Towers for the brave). The leisure centre, a short walk from Matchbox at the bottom of the town has a gym, pool and a climbing wall.

Loved the movies saved on the TV. Bed was great too. And enclosed garden for our dogs. 5* from all of us. We will definitely return here. Stoney Wood just up the road is good for off lead time. Blacks Head & Red Lion in town are both dog friendly too

Beautiful 3 bedroom Grade 2 listed stone cottage in this historic village, formerly one of the Arkwright workers' cottages. Large and welcoming kitchen with island and seating, lovely dining room opening up into the lounge with original stone fireplace and impressive log burner. Original stone tiled floor throughout. Downstairs also has a 'snug' with sofa bed and utility area which leads to a small outside seating area. Very large master bedroom and fully refitted bathroom with separate shower.
Would suit a couple or large group alike. Cyclists, walkers, outdoor, adventurers, young and old....
Cromford is a wonderful and friendly village, steeped in history and providing ease of access to number of key Peak District towns, great walks, trails and attractions. Local village shop, a few take-aways and restaurants and two lovely pubs.

A lovely, traditional little terraced cottage located high above Matlock Bath, with stunning views over the Derbyshire countryside. Pretty, comfortable and sympathetically furnished throughout, this Matlock Bath cottage is ideal for a small family or group of friends to enjoy the delights of this beautiful part of the Peak District.
Despite being only a few minutes from the centre of Matlock Bath, the cottage is on a tranquil terrace high above the bustle. It's warm in winter and cool in the summer. Despite being new to Airbnb, we have been letting this property to great reviews for over four years.
The immediate neighbourhood is quiet, but Matlock Bath is full of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are lots of things to do including taking the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham or walking along the river and canal or up in the hills. There are many other towns and villages close by such as Bakewell and Cromford.
  • Highly recommend Painter's Cottage as great value for money and experience. Lovely views, very well equipped, was great to be able to cook as we found a lot of local eateries were closed.Cottage was clean, very warm and cosy. Many thanks

  • Great place, fab views, very comfortable. Highly recommend this place.

  • We had lovely, comfortable stay at Painter's Cottage, especially when the wood burner took the chill off the November evenings. Ideally located up a (very steep) hill from Matlock Bath, to explore the surrounding towns and wonderful countryside. A compact but well kitted out kitchen was perfect for preparing simple family meals.

  • Lovely cosy and comfortable cottage - great value for money - well equipped, walking distance to Matlock bath centre - lovely log burner great to return to after a snowy walk - highly recommended

  • We spent a lovely weekend at Painters Cottage. We all thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the children! The communication was excellent throughout and Anne even let us stay a little later at check out. The hill is steep but we managed it, and we are from flat Norfolk! This is mentioned though before you book. We parked in the town, there is a car park at the bottom of the road and only cost £4 to £5 for the evening until 11am the next day. We have a rather large car and found it easier than going up the hill. The area is lovely and the cottage is in an excellent position to allow one to wander into matlock bath and we enjoyed some yummy fish and chips, a play in the park, a walk up the hill and some arcade fun!! We would highly recommend Painters Cottage and will stay again if in the area. Thank you.

  • We really enjoyed our short break at the Painters Cottage. Amazing views from the bedroom and lounge and beautiful artwork too. We travelled from London and it was a perfect location for us being just five minutes walk from the station and very easy to get around without a car. The weather wasn't great on the Saturday so rather than trying out a walk (which looked excellent) we caught a bus to Bakewell which only took 30mins. It is also easy to walk or get a bus to Matlock for more restaurant/pub choice. We eat locally at the balti restaurant and the China Rose - both would recommend. On the Sat eve we went to a lovely pub with stunning views, called the White Lion (a short walk on a bit on the incline through the woods behind the cable station) and back to Matlock Bath for live music at the Fishpond. We both found the bed v comfortable and it was peaceful at night to enjoy a good sleep! Anne was great too and allowed us to check out a little later to coincided with our train heading home. A lovely stay all in all! Thank you Anne

  • This cottage was adorable! We had a nice and quiet stay. It was easy to find and check in was simple and flexible. It wasn’t clear to us that access to the toilet was outside of the main cottage. Be aware! It wasn’t a big issue, but it was a surprise to us. The cottage was smaller than we anticipated, but it suited the two of us just fine. The bed was warm and comfortable and the heaters in the cottage warmed the space up quickly. Overall, it was a nice stay with a great view.

    Jennifer2018-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy little barn, had everything we needed and incredible views. Could do with a little TLC and the bathroom lights weren't working. Penny was very helpful on the phone and we had an enjoyable stay. Lovely for a quiet stay in the Peak District.

  • This is a great place to stay; loved Wirkswoth and this house, just off the main street and next to the Church, was a great find. Paul was very helpful and responded quickly to all enquiries. I'd have no hesitation staying again and happily highly recommend to others.

    Stephen2018-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Stone floors, old windows and doors that show you their past. This place is steeped in history and yet furnished with all you need in this century. A great find, so I’m not going to shout too loudly!

    Katie2018-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Paul was very helpful, giving advice of events happening in Wirksworth and where to eat. We each received a voucher for the micro brewery, which is located at the front of the cottage. The people there were friendly and welcoming, and we spent an enjoyable few hours looking through the records for sale upstairs and making a few purchases. Location great for walking, there was a small market on the Saturday with a great food choice and local produce. The cottage was just what we were looking for, quirky and cosy. Lovely bedrooms and bathroom. Good laundry and kitchen facilities. We stayed just for the two nights, would have been great to stay longer. Would definitely stay again.

    Carol2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • The property was as gorgeous as the photos. Very comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, and a useful manual that covered everything you needed to know about the house. Paul kept in touch and provided useful information prior to arrival, and welcomed us in person shortly after we arrived.

    Jane2018-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, spacious cottage with quiet, pretty garden. Centrally placed in Wirksworth for shops, restaurants & pubs with easy access to the beautiful Peak District. Paul and his wife were friendly, welcoming and informative.

  • This cottage is ideally located near the hills and climbing crags, in the centre of beautiful Wirksworth. Everything is convenient, and the pub across the yard is quirky and fabulous. Paul was a great host, and had added many thoughtful touches to the cottage. We were made to feel very welcome and we really enjoyed this spacious and beautifully renovated cottage. We’d love to come back soon, particularly to try out the local cinema, which is highly recommended.

Come and stay in my beautiful and stylish barn in the quirky little town of Wirksworth, known as the 'gem of the peaks'. The barn is situated in a quiet conservation area, minutes from the heart of Wirksworth with outstanding views of the town and countryside. Being on the edge of the Peak District, it is an ideal base for exploring this part of England, with great walks from the doorstep . Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and many other attractions are just a short drive away.
The barn is situated in the grounds of my home, but is completely independent and detached with its own entrance. Upstairs features an attractive large open plan living space comprising of a sitting area at one end, and a well equipped kitchen and dining area the other. Downstairs there are two double bedrooms, each with ensuite shower rooms. The property offers a small outdoor terrace, ideal for having breakfast outside on a warm morning. For those with bikes there is a secure area for storage.
Crofter's Barn is up a steep hill close to the centre of Wirksworth and all its amenities, including an independent cinema and plenty of eating places. Star gaze, meditate or enjoy local fish and chips in our delightful shared folly located in the grounds, while taking in the incredible view. There is also a shared seating area which you are welcome to enjoy. Great walks from the doorstep and ideally situated for the Peak District's many attractions, with water sports on nearby Carsington Water. Wirksworth is a vibrant little market town with a selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops. Browse for antiques, books, toys and gifts. The town is also home to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, running seasonal weekend trains to Duffield. The annual Wirksworth Arts Festival held in September offers a mix of live performance, art trails and exhibitions.
  • A magical little barn in a wonderful location. Everything about our stay with first class. And Nicola could not be more helpful. A gem of a place!

  • Crofter’s Barn is a quiet and comfortable place to stay in a very central location with an amazing view across Wirksworth. The barn is fully equipped for self catering. The bedrooms are comfortable for a good night’s rest and sleep with good shower facilities. Nicola gave us a warm and friendly welcome and was nearby if we needed any help.

    Peter2018-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely converted barn in the prettiest part of Wirksworth, great for walking in to town and for improving your fitness on the walk back up the hill afterwards! Nicola was a friendly and accommodating host, and the views from the garden are spectacular.

    Lisa2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent accommodation the barn has been done to a very high standard. Central location within easy walking distance of the countryside and the town. Only downside is the drive way which takes a bit of getting use to.

    Kevin2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cottage in very pretty Peak District village. Nicola was a fantastic host. When we arrived in the torrential rain 3 hours late, she welcomed us with a smile and showed us around. She also provided milk, tea, coffee and some prosecco! A lovely place to unwind

    Elena2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Nicola was a great host and she was quick to respond to my emails. We had a wonderful time and slept well on the very comfortable beds. The location was perfect for commuting to our course at the Chatsworth House.

    Trista2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is lovely, situated in a nice quiet town, Nicola was very welcoming and it had everything we needed during our stay. We enjoyed a great couple of days and definitely would have stayed longer if we could.

    Samantha2017-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I really enjoyed our bank holiday weekend stay in this lovely property. We really enjoyed a couple of local walks, there are endless choices of public footpaths, and enjoyed hiring bikes at Carsington Water and cycling the perimeter. From the property, you can easily walk into Wirksworth for a meal. We enjoyed eating lunch at Mercia and an evening meal at Le Mistral. Both very nice food and comfortable atmospheres. We both slept well at the property, it's very quiet and safe. Please note it is a very steep hill (Nicola is a wonderful host and gave directions a few days before) but do consider a small car with height if possible! It requires first gear up a steep hill and the driveway from the hill can scrape the bottom of your car. I drive a standard Seat Ibiza and it grounded on entrance and exit. Meeting another vehicle on the hill can also cause some clutch problems! Overall, a fantastic stay at a lovely, homely and very clean property in a great location!

Hidden away in beautiful Wensley Dale, locations don't come much better than this. There are superb views across the valley on all the lovely walks from the cottage. A brisk evening stroll along the road by the river will soon get you to the Three Stags and Square and Compass pubs in Darley Bridge. Matlock, with all its county town facilities is just five minutes drive over the hill.
The Hayloft has been carefully created out of a mellow stone hay loft in the midst of the sleepy little hamlet of Snitterton. It has a lovely vaulted lounge, dining and kitchen area. The lounge has a comfortable settee and chair, flat screen T.V. D.V.D, SKY and Wi-Fi together with a glowing inset electric fire. The superb kitchen has quality fitted units, halogen hob, oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and automatic washer/dryer. A vaulted double bedroom. An adjoining bathroom with bath/hand held shower and W.C.
Don't forget to visit nearby Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the Peak Steam Railway. Other treats include Calver Edge's breathtaking views, Monsal Dale's wonderful waterfalls, the 'little Switzerland' of Matlock Gorge, Sunday breakfast in the Devonshire Arms in Beeley and the ultimate of meals in Stone's restaurant in Matlock. Make sure you get back in time for a drink on the little patio as the swifts and house martins swoop overhead
  • Lovely conversion in a secluded but accessible spot. Stylish and well presented with everything you could want. Outstanding attention to detail.

    Lorraine2018-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great little loft conversion. Perfect space for a weekend away. Only downside is the distance to things means driving but if you just want a secluded retreat then you’ll struggle to find a better choice.

The views out of the kitchen and bedroom windows are spectacular and there are lots of sweet spaces to relax in. Wirksworth itself has some great shops - we recommend the bakery and butcher's! There are also some really beautiful walks close by. The only difficult thing is driving up the hill to park your car!

The cottage is perfectly sized, very well equipped and uses the space available exceptionally well; it really felt like a home from home. We enjoyed every minute we were there. There are plenty of places to visit without needing a car too, we highly recommend walking to the top of the hill and exploring the available walks, The Northern Light Cinema is but a stroll away and well worth catching a film in!

  • We had a wonderful time in Wirksworth, much of it due to our stay in Tiina's immaculate cottage. The interior fittings are tasteful and of a high quality. The bed is a dream to sleep in, as is the kitchen to cook in. The setting of the cottage affords a lovely view of meadows and woods.

A unique opportunity to stay in one of Derbyshire’s historic country homes; Riber Hall Manor. Riber Hall dates from the 1400’s. This beautifully restored Elizabethan manor house is situated in Riber, a tiny hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall. In 1724, the hall was split it into two halves. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with its deep history and authentic English country charm.
The hidden secret of Riber Hall Manor. Built by the Ribergh family, this Grade II* listed Elizabethan manor house was home to the famous Derbyshire Wolley family until 1668. During the Civil War, Riber Hall was a royalist stronghold and it is rumoured that a secret passageway exists from the hall to Dethick where the Babington’s lived. Anthony Babington was an English nobleman who was convicted of plotting the assassination of Elizabeth 1st of England and conspiring with the imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall and indeed one of our bedrooms would suggest this. By 1724, the hall was owned by the Chappel family and two sisters divided the hall and split it into two halves. One half of this romantic home was previously known as a highly regarded country house hotel. Meanwhile, the other untouched side seems to have been forgotten over the years, until now. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with authentic and fascinating English country charm, plus a deep history that we love to share with our guests. Riber is a hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales, situated high on a hill overlooking Matlock; boasting some of the most dramatic views in Derbyshire.
Riber is a tiny hamlet, just two miles from the spa town of Matlock, 5 minutes by car from Cromford and Matlock Bath. Local attractions include Gullivers Kingdom, The Heights of Abraham, Chatsworth House (home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire) and Haddon Hall. Bakewell and Ashbourne are both a short car journey away.
  • This is likely the best AirB'n'B I've ever been to (and I've been to quite a few). The manor is a beautiful, carefully and lovingly renovated historical building and as a guest you get to enjoy both a spacious room with an insanely comfortable bed and the dining room, as well as the lovely surroundings. The full English breakfast we got in the morning was also very very good and satisfying. Alison is a wonderful host - very welcoming and knowledgeable about the house and its history. My husband and I will definitely try to make sure to come back!

    Barbara2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous and unique property with generous sized rooms and private facilities. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had in my travels with product sourced locally. The location is perfect, right on the doorstep of the national park for those wishing to explore. You can expect the warmest of welcomes from Alison & co and they are exceptionally helpful & forthcoming with their extensive knowledge of the stunning beauty of Derbyshires famous Peak District!

  • Fabulous!

    Melanie2018-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • A relaxing and fascinating stay at a captivatingly historic house with excellent hosts amongst a community of delightful people, with one of the finest views in Derbyshire a two minute walk from the door! What’s not to like? Go!

    Liam2017-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Riber Manor Hall for 5 days. It was our first experience of AirB&B and I think we have been thoroughly spoilt. Alison and Nick worked hard to make our stay comfortable, relaxing and wanting for nothing. We so appreciated all the extra little touches....lovely toiletries, sweet treats and beautiful flowers from the garden in our room. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have slept in. Nick's breakfasts were so delicious and plentiful and enjoying them in the candle lit dining room added to the experience. Riber Manor Hall is almost 600 years old so if you want a stay in a fascinating and ancient home then this is your chance to experience that. We stayed at a very cold time of year and yes this is not a modern centrally heated home but the heating was adequate and we very soon adapted. Itcertainly did not detract at all from our stay. We found Alison and Nick to be both friendly and fascinating to speak to and very much enjoyed exchanging (Website hidden by Airbnb) We so enjoyed our stay that we hope to book again in the Autumn so that we can enjoy the beautiful scenery again and the wonderful hospitality.

  • This is an amazing place to stay. Everything is so lovely and well thought out. A great base to go an explore the beautiful countryside. Alison and Nick are wonderful hosts.

    Nina2018-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • Alison and Nick are warm and welcoming hosts with lots of interesting stories to tell. They were very accommodating, and set up a bed for our dog in the kitchen, and looked after her in the morning before we got up. Nick did a great job with breakfast! The house has many interesting features and the bedroom was clean and spacious. Unfortunately it was dark when we arrived and the weather the next day was grey, but from the photos it looked like a nice view...! I'd be happy to stay again on a sunnier weekend :) My recommendation for an evening meal is the White Lion pub, just one mile down the road. It's an old, traditional pub with several vegetarian options. The food is well cooked and good value for money! They are also dog friendly.

    Emma2017-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • This beautiful old house located just outside the Peak District park is absolutely stunning! The room is huge, the bed is super comfortable and needless to say that the bathroom is impeccable. Alison, the host, is lovely, very welcoming and kind. I would highly recommend this place!

  • Very warm welcome to the accommodation and a tour of the facilities, i.e Garden etc. Overall we had a wonderful stay at the Brew House, Even my Road Traffic accident on the way home didn't spoil the trip, The brew House was a delight and we would love to return in the near future

    Paul2016-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Steve was a perfect host. The place is quite snug but was perfect for us- very charming place and lovely garden to chill out in. We will definitely be returning here next time we are staying in the area.

  • Wow.... is all I can say! What a perfect little gem... stayed here with a friend it's so cosy and quaint. Sue was incredibly welcoming and told us everything we needed to know. The Brewhouse is a lovely space, perfect for a getaway. The hosts added some lovely touches... complementary chocolates, soap, tea, milk etc. Perfect location. We really enjoyed the garden snug too... so warm and perfect for relaxation. Wish we spent longer than a night! Thank you so much for a lovely stay :-) definitely will be back. P.S we also loved the record players!

  • What a little gem of a place. Beautifully decorated with upcycled vintage furniture. Set in beautiful grounds with a walled garden with the addition of a newly created and gorgeous summer-house bolt-hole, which we took our breakfast up to on a tray. Such a treat! The hosts are also Incredibly warm with wonderful tips on the area. The little personal touches are everywhere - don’t hesitate to book.

  • Our first trip to the Peak District and this was such a perfect base. The Brew House really is the most beautifully designed and decorated accommodation. Every detail has been thought through making this such a great stay. Steve and his wife were the most generous hosts, giving wonderful recommendations and knowledge of the local area. I cannot recommend a stay here enough - so cute and we can't wait to return!

    Jen2015-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really great time staying in Wirksworth, Steve and Sue were brilliant hosts and made us feel very welcome indeed, The Brewhouse is really quirky and unusual which is just what we like, the Ginger and Chocolate busicuits were very nice with a good cup of coffee. Wirksworth is centrally located and it is easy to travel to the local sights, there are plenty of walks in the surrounding area. We took our bikes and Steve very kindly allowed us to keep them secure in his garage. The High Peaks Trail and Monsal Trail are very local. Communication by email and mobile with Steve was excellent. Overall we had a great experience and we will definately visit again

    Nigel2016-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay at the brew house! Everything met my expectations and beyond. The little touches from cushions to biscuits really made the place feel homely and welcoming. I will definitely be recommending this accommodation to friends.

A den of tranquility hidden away in the Derbyshire Dales. Beautiful airy cottage with all new fittings . A very relaxing atmosphere. Lots of Parking just up the road .Fabulous walks and days out on the doorstep. Including all linen, towels etc and wifi. Central heating and wood burner . Enclosed courtyard . Wirksworth is a fabulous little historical town (more like a village really) that is very quirky . You may want to stay , a lot of people do! There is a discount for a full week or longer.
A cosy , quirky cottage in the heart of Wirksworth hidden away in the Derbyshire Dales. Perfect for walking and trips out to Chatsworth , Buxton , Bakewell or just soak up our unique village atmosphere. We have fabulous shops , restaurants , pubs and bistros. Now with wifi ! All linen provided. Warm in winter and a stable door into the enclosed courtyard that you can leave open in the summer. The bedrooms are light and airy and the living room lovely and cosy. Always clean and welcoming. We will also take a small dog if it's clean and well behaved.
Wirsworth really is the quirkiest little town in the Peak District , many visitors stay for good as it's just so friendly . The perfect retreat for artists. Wonder through the puzzle gardens and discover hidden gardens. Wirksworth still has a tuesday market and a farmers market every first saturday in the month. Throughout the year we have a big book day , well dressings , a scarecrow festival , an arts festival , Antiques in the streets , makers markets and much more. Visit our cinema and watch the film on a sofa with a bottle of wine. Visit there website Northern lights cinema Wirksworth. We have a railway run by local enthusiasts. There are pubs , an award winning French restaurant (Le Mistral) , Spanish restaurant (Mercia) , a chip shop , cafes , delis , grocers , butchers , a bakers , fair trade , organic , gifts , crafts and many other small independant shops. Try the Sour Cow cafe for the best homemade waffles or breakfast just a minutes walk from the cottage. Just come and soak up the Wirksworth vibes , they're fantastic.
  • Would we stay again? Yes. Definitely. It's a super location to access the high peak trail and lots of local attractions. The outside picture makes this cottage look dreary but it isn't. It certainly is very 'Cosy' and swinging a cat would be fatal but it is very tastefully decorated and, apart from the bathroom, the rooms are spacious enough. Headroom is almost exactly 6ft on all doorways and low beams. The bathroom is absolutely tiny and feature a 2/3 size bath. and a half size sink however the shower over that bath is super and the windowsill on the hall was a good place for our bag of 'toiletries'. The kitchen is all very new and lovely and the facilities are very good but again it is small. The heating system is modern combi with a room stat you can adjust. The courtyard outside the kitchen is just large enough to put 4 bikes in (though not covered) they were secure as there is no rear access. In yorkshire we used to call these courtyards a 'Light Well' as they are walled on each side by the 2 stories of stone walls of other houses. Be careful when maneuvering bikes through the house to this area. Access to the house is via a coded key lock. Very handy. It has a TV and DVD player though it's not a large TV is was ample to watch a movie on and still enjoy it. It's a good quality TV. We found we had H+ internet speed on our virgin mobiles which was useful as there is no wifi. Parking in front is a real pain. When we were loading up I kept having to move the car as there was no way past. We had an Audi A4 and it was too long to park in front. There is ample parking 60 seconds walk away on the main road. There is a supermarket a further 60 seconds walk away from that.

  • What a fantastic weekend we had at the Cosy Cottage! Thank you very much to Sally-Anne for the lovely chocolates that were left for us for valentines weekend. What a lovely gesture. We fell in love with Wirksworth, what a beautiful place! The local pubs and shops were extremely friendly and we made use of the dvd rental at the local shop; £1-£2 for 24 hours! The cottage was perfect, it lived up to its name; definitely cosy and snug! It was great for us! Thanks for such a great stay. It was the perfect cottage in the perfect location and we will definitely be back!

    Jenna2016-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We found the cottage convenient, comfortable and beautifully furnished. Our little car did struggle up the hill on arrival (turning around & pulling in to drop off bags) but we were aware that it'd be steep. We parked elsewhere as advised. We had everything we needed: walks from the doorstep, shops to browse, restaurants to eat in (yes, Le Mistral was a worthwhile recommendation) and, luckily, great weather for a superb weekend stay. Thanks a lot.

  • Such a homely cottage. Everything you could possibly need. Such a lovely place to stay in such a lovely location

  • We had a lovely few days here. The cottage was perfect for us (3 adults) and was very comfortable, with lots of character. Wirksworth is a great base and has good restaurants, pubs and is a pretty place to stay. Highly recommended!

  • Lovely cottage and really well located in the heart of the village and Sally-Anne was incredibly friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend staying here.

  • Cosy Cottage is just that - cosy. It's a great little house in a great location, perfect for exploring the Peak District. I had no problems parking on surrounding streets (no restrictions in the marketplace on Sunday, and a combination of Harrison Drive on-street parking, and the free car park a few minutes walk away on Canterbury Road the rest of the time). I'm certain that I will be returning.

    Mat2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at this cottage with 3 friends of mine for a weekend where we enjoyed some hikes and rock climbing. The cottage was very clean, tidy and almost everything was provided. Sally-Anne was very helpful when she provided me with local walking maps as I had requested before arrival. I definitely would book again and highly recommend such a beautiful place and a helpful owner.

Set on Matlock Bank in the centre of Matlock the cottage built in 1742 has a garden, patio, log burner in the lounge, full kitchen and bathroom with bath and separate shower, two bedrooms with super king size double beds (one of which can be split into two single beds upon request).
Homely warm cottage with lots of attention to detail - having worked in the hospitality business all my life I try and make sure the cottage is presented with everything I need and look for when travelling.
Matlock Bank at one time was a village in its own right so there are still a number of useful shops on the street.
  • The cottage was beautiful and our stay was everything we wanted it to be. Thank you Martin

    Ryan2015-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Gate cottage was beautiful and made for a great countryside getaway! The cottage is very tastefully decorated and was spotlessly clean. It had everything we needed and more - including a bottle of wine and made up fire. The arrival and departure was made easy by being able to collect/deposit the key to suit us and although we didn't need to meet/contact Martin I have no doubt from the finishing touches and correspondence prior to our stay he wanted us to feel at home! We visited a restaurant recommended by Martin and it was great. Matlock is a lovely town with wonderful views and walks. Thanks again Martin and the two Carols for making us feel so welcome!

    Jodi-Lee2015-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • Martin's cottage was gorgeous; very comfortable and full of character. I was only sad that we couldn't stay longer, and would love to come back for a longer holiday. Thanks for the bottle of wine, that was a lovely touch. Matlock is a cute little town, and we would recommend Moja for a curry.

    Hannah2016-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this adorable cottage. Loved the huge bed and cosy sitting room. Enjoyed sitting out in the garden for breakfast and thought Matlock was a pretty vibrant town. We were just passing through but we'd love to come back for a few days exploring and we'd be very happy to come back to martins place. Thank you Martin and Carol!

Tower Cottage is a detached, 3 storey stone cottage for up to 4 guests in the heart of Wirksworth with its rich history and beautiful situation. The cottage has a double and a single bedroom (with pull out bed) and a shower room. There is a fully fitted kitchen and a sitting room with log burning stove. There is a patio garden, bike store and terraced gardens around the house with beautiful hill views. Sorry, no pets.
When we first set our eyes on the cottage we fell in love with it. We christened it Tower Cottage as everyone who has seen it, says it's like a little tower... which it is. The cottage is in a beautiful & quiet location tucked away up 'The Dale', which is one of the oldest parts of Wirksworth. It is rare to find such peace in a town dwelling, with virtually no traffic in the vicinity and yet just minutes away, the activities and amenities of a bustling market town. We don't know much about the history of the cottage yet but it was probably a miner's or quarry man's cottage, like many of those around it. It has been lovingly restored to modern standards, with double glazing & good insulation, whilst retaining original features. We have decorated the cottage with a mix of old and new and reflected the colours and images of nature and the stunning Derbyshire Dales and Peaks. Please note the second bedroom is on the ground floor next to the living room and the main bedroom is 2 flights of stairs away on the second floor and so children sleeping downstairs will be some way from you. The second flight of stairs are steep and have a tight turn and so may prove tricky if you have mobility issues. Wirksworth is famous for its quirky alleyways, jittys and ginnels - a network of walkways that run between the houses, perched perilously on the edges of the old quarry workings. Many say 'The Dale' area reminds them of a Cornish fishing village but without the sea. So, come and visit our cottage and explore for yourselves and let the stresses of life just slip away!
The market town of Wirksworth ('The Gem of The Peak') is of considerable historical interest and is a popular location for the exploration of the Peak District. Its uniqueness and friendliness make it one of the most appealing and fascinating towns in the area. There are fabulous walks from the door, cycle trails, a leisure centre with swimming pool and climbing wall, individual local shops, farmers market on the first Saturday of each month, restaurants, tea rooms, bistro, several public houses, an independent cinema and a heritage centre. Every year at Spring Bank holiday, Wirksworth holds its annual Well Dressing ceremonies and carnival. In September the town celebrates the talents of local, national and international artists, along with performers of all descriptions, when it holds its prestigious annual Arts Festival. Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is Derbyshire's longest heritage railway and operates passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel rail cars. An eclectic range of events run throughout the year in Wirksworth. Many of these take place at the Town Hall but also at the Star Disc (a representation in granite of the Northern Constellation), on a hill in Stoney Wood, near the cottage. With easy access to attractions in the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District, Wirksworth is also convenient for Cromford, Matlock, Ashbourne, Buxton and Derby.
  • The description online for Tower Cottage is very accurate. The cottage is absolutely gorgeous and provided us with a fun and relaxing break. It's beautifully decorated interior was exceptionally clean on arrival and the cottage is set in a beautiful location. Parking was a little challenging but Karen the host gave us perfect advice about this and we always found a space. Karen communicated arrival procedures very well indeed and we felt incredibly welcomed in her cottage. We would undoubtedly look to return to Tower Cottage time and time again.

  • What a beautiful home and great location. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring stoney wood and the star gazing platform. We would definitely return. We all loved that the tower was unconventional in its layout x

  • I thought it was lovely I enjoyed my stay and Karen was wonderful.

  • Such a wonderful cottage, peaceful, homely, clean and cosy. Really welcoming and was perfect even on my own.

  • Great cottage. Minutes from the centre yet very quiet. Communication was great. Just looking for an excuse to visit again :)

  • The Tower Cottage is fabulous. Great amenities, walk to village, comfortable beds, and the best shower in the U.K.! We fell in love with it, and will come back for a longer stay.

  • We loved this charming and cozy little cottage. It has real character, and the owners have put so much thought into how to make the most of the compact dimensions. The cottage is really well equipped but doesn't come across as cluttered at all, thanks to all manner of ingenious little cupboards and storage solutions. We also liked the colour coordination everywhere, and the use of good quality equipment and furnishings. It all combined to make the cottage feel very special. We also loved the main bedroom at the top of the 'tower' with windows on three sides. The cottage is in a very quiet and peaceful area of Wirksworth and yet is only 3 minutes walk from the shops in the main street. It is possible to walk from the cottage out of the town, past a disused quarry, and in only a few minutes be at Middleton Top with great views over the surrounding countryside. The cottage was warm and snug in November when we visited. We'd love to come back in the warmer months when the little terraced garden looks to be a lovely place to sit with a good book. Overall we'd warmly recommend Tower Cottage to others looking for something with character and charm!

  • Tower Cottage is beautiful. I almost don't want to review it in case I can never book it again. Karen was the perfect host, giving clear instructions and letting me get on with enjoying my break. Wirksworth is a beautiful town with lots of interesting places to explore but it is also on the doorstep of the Peak District which opens up many opportunities for sightseeing and exploring. I highly recommend Tower Cottage, it really is the perfect hidden gem.

Our house is situated on the edge of Wirksworth in Millers Green, its 15 – 20 minute stroll into the centre of town either over the fields along a well-defined footpath or along the road. It is in a private cul-de- sac of just four houses so does not suffer from any traffic noise.
The guest bedroom which has one double bed is an excellent size with wonderful views of the rolling Derbyshire countryside. There is a wardrobe and drawers available for you to use, there is also tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The separate newly renovated bathroom is for your private use. Our conservatory is lovely place to sit and watch the sun go down over the hills in the summer. Our garden is very colourful during the summer months and is constantly evolving, and provides another lovely place to sit and relax - bring your own wine and use our outdoor furniture for a ‘chill out’ evening. We will provide a simple breakfast of juice, cereals, toast, fruit and yogurt along with preserves (all homemade where possible). You can also use our kitchen for the preparation and cooking of evening meals (by arrangement so were not falling over ourselves). If you wanted to eat in from the local take outs or have a simple supper or lunch of cheese, bread and wine etc. (there is a bakery & Co-Op in the center of Wirksworth which offer delightful treats) then we’ll make crockery, cutlery, glasses and space available for your use.
Wirksworth is a fairly unique and historic town full of odd nooks and crannies and the ancient and fascinating church of St Mary nestles in its small cathedral-like precinct in the centre. It has many independent shops and coffee / tea establishments. There are a number of fine pubs, some serving meals. There is also a splendid French style bistro (La Minstrel) which opens daily - advanced bookings are recommended for weekends. A little further afield many of the surrounding villages also offer additional fine dining. Wirksworth has a fuel filling station and a large Co-Op. Wirksworth also has its own heritage railway (The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway) who operate passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel railcars and occasionally steam locomotives. The town has well-dressings during Whitson week, and every September there is the unusual ceremony of 'Clypping', in which the church is encircled by the congregation holding hands around it. Wirksworth has the well-known Arts Festival, which happens over a September weekend. The Festival includes all forms of Art, with the Market Square the centre for music, dance and street acts while many of the houses around the village play host to many different forms of artistic expression. Tours and tour maps can be bought in the local shops during the festival. Being on the edge of the Peak District National Park and the White Peak there are many fine walks available to suit all abilities and a number can be done from our front door. Carsington Reservoir circular track is within a 30 minute walk of our home as is the traffic free High Peak trail which is suitable for walking and cycling (cycle hire is available locally). Famous Dovedale with its ‘stepping stones’ is only a short drive away. For the more energetic the gritstone edges and wild moors of the Dark Peak are only a 50 minute drive away. The historic town of Bakewell, the stately homes of Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and Kedleston Hall are all within 30 minutes by car. Matlock and Matlock Bath with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham a short 10 minute drive. The National Stone Centre, Derbyshire Eco Centre and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre also have their homes in Wirksworth. We are also with easy reach of a number of local wedding venues including Haarlem Mill (10 min walking distance), Shottle Hall and Alison House among others.
  • Very good value for money, friendly hosts, very comfortable bedroom and overall highly recommend. They do a great breakfast!

  • Excelente ! Andy and Sue are perfect hosts, they made us feel really welcome throughout our stay. They have a lovely house, with great views, and we enjoyed their company, and a great breakfast. Highly recommended !

  • I spent one night at Andy&Sue's place: the pictures are completely accurate, the room is clean, spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is brand new. The view from the bedroom is just gorgeous but what really makes this place great is Andy&Sue: they made me feel welcome into their home, gave me recommendations for dinner and a short trail through Black Rocks, and fed me a great breakfast in the morning (fresh fruits from the garden, homemade jams

  • Located only a few minutes' walk from Wirksworth centre, and in an ideal location for day trips into the Peak District National Park. A lovely bedroom complete with tea and a view of the garden and fields, clean and pretty bathroom. Andrew and Sue were kind and helpful, and provided a nice breakfast of yoghurt, fruit, toast and jams, as well as lent us maps and gave us lots of tips on where to walk and visit.

  • We enjoyed our stay with Andrew and Sue in their lovely home. We were made very welcome and had a lovely room with a beautiful view over the hillside ! Andrew and Sue were very friendly and helpful and served us a delicious breakfast. We would like to return again soon.

  • Andy and Sue were the best hosts! We had a great stay with them. We arrived to a cup of tea and a great conversation. They recommended a lovely restaurant in town where we had a very nice dinner. On our return Andy and Sue were still up and we had another great chat. The bed and bathroom were spotless and very inviting. The room has a great view of onto Sue's garden and the fields beyond. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and lovingly prepared with ingredients picked from the garden. We couldn't be more pleased with our stay and we left wishing we had longer. Thanks for a great stay Andy and Sue!

  • Really lovely house in a great location. Andrew was an excellent host and gave us lots of useful information about walking/cycling

    James2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Andy and Sue's house was amazing, incredibly clean and welcoming. Lovely people to get to know and very helpful. Home made jams from the garden for breakfast were an excellent touch and they even managed to produce a knot tying book to help me practice for the climbing course I was attending. Strongly recommend and I will definitely be staying again on my next trip to the Peak District! Thanks!

Our family group of 7 had such a lovely stay at Maggie and John's cottage. Maggie was very welcoming and accommodating. The size of the cottage was perfect, with great open space in the living-dining room, ideal for family meals and downtime! The place was cosy and very clean and 5min walk from the local shop, butcher, bakery and fish and chips =) We will definitely recommend it!
