  • I booked a night in the Brew House for my Mum & Dad as an anniversary treat. Here’s what they had to say: The Brew House is a lovely little self contained flat, that’s really cute, quirky and beautifully decorated. It might be very compact, but has everything you need for a really comfortable stay. Steve and Sue were fantastic hosts, very friendly, welcoming and informative. Wirksworth itself is a great little place, and as our stay coincided with the annual arts festival, there was lots going on around the town Would definitely recommend booking a night or two if you happen to be in the area :)

    Graham2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Sue were perfect hosts. A warm welcome was given and a guided tour followed of the wonderful and quirky Wash House and garden. The Wash House was exactly as shown/described and we totally loved it! Even the vertically challenging stairs were entertaining for the person watching the other navigate their way up them, and I only hit my head once :-) The bed was really comfy, though it took a while to get used to Whale sleeping next to you lol. The atmosphere was very relaxed and Steve and Sue were both on hand should we need them. It was home from home. Wirksworth was the perfect base and central for all the trips we had planned. We did find that the local pubs lacked somewhat in comfort but there were several good places to eat only minutes walk from the house. We loved our stay and will definitely be returning. Thank you Steve and Sue.

  • Steve was a lovely host, we really appreciated him staying in to meet us on New Year's eve and giving us some advice on the village night life. The wash room was adorable and we both loved the whale! Thank you! :)

  • Great stay in Steve's lovely Wash House. Steve is really friendly and the Wash House is beautifully decorated. Only wish it hadn't been raining so we could've spent more time in the incredible garden!

    Malaika2015-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely few days staying in the Wash House. The weather wasn't great but we found plenty to do in the area, including some rainy walks in the spectacular Peak District landscape. Wirksworth itself is charming and quirky and the Wash House is situated right in the centre of the town. Steve and Sue were impeccable hosts and provided us with brilliant suggestions and advice. We can recommend (as Steve did) the pizza at Gino's and the veggie breakfast at Mercia.

    Andy2017-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent stay! It's a really cosy place with everything you need. We would highly recommend hiring bikes from Middleton Top, great views and fairly priced.

  • This is a delightful property, ideally situated on the edge of the Peak District, with a cosy pub and outstanding bookshop close by. The house was spotless and very comfortable with good heating and hot water. Linda has taken care to provide high quality beds and bedding, good kitchen equipment and decorated the house to a high standard. It was simple to access and Linda replied very promptly to any correspondence. I would recommend this house as an excellent base to explore the beautiful peaks and dales.

    Corinne2016-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is really well presented and in a beautiful setting. The description is accurate and although the kitchen is small the rest of the cottage feels spacious. Linda provided us with all the information we needed and replied to questions promptly. Plenty to do in the village and surrounding areas.

  • Wonderful location, great place that had everything we needed!

    Samantha2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage, warm, clean and plenty of room. Linda respond quickly to all our questions and was very helpful. Loads to do in the local area, perfect for exploring the Peaks - we had a great stay! The kitchen is small but very functional and clean. Other reviews have talked about the 'sensitive' fire alarm I would echo this, it was very loud and set off very easily! We would definitely go back for another stay!

  • It was such a great experience for us. We've had a great night and the view in the morning was fascinating. The barn is very lovely and interestingly designed with a great location. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a break, for a lovely and romantic night.

  • A truly wonderful, quirky unique property perfect for couples on the doorstep of the Derbyshire Dales. Although small, the space was more than adequate, a very comfy double bed & great outdoor space for dining, star gazing! Absolutely hassle free check in & communication. A true hidden gem hosted by the most gracious of hosts, Penny & Andrew. Would recommend over & over.....

    Jason & Hazel2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely an intimate place for quiet days and birdsong. Sipping your favourite tipple whilst gazing at spectacular views on terrace. Inside is small but adequate for two adults. You need to be nifty to ascend a ladder to bedroom. The shower room and toilet is attached to cottage and is accessed down a few steps from front door which means going outside to use it. This was for us the only negative . If you need to use toilet during the night you have to descend the ladder and go outside to get to shower room and toilet. Nice touches were the supply of fleecy or wooden throws to keep you snuggly when outside. Bowls for dog water/food. CD radio player and DVD player with supply of films and TV. And even a hairdryer. Coffee tea and sugar canisters full. Although we never needed to meet with hosts it was reassuring they were nearby if needed.

  • Had such a lovely time in Winster, the accommodation was your typical quaint British cottage with lovely original features and cosy fire place. We went during a cold spell in the winter so that helped the place warm up! The village is adorable with a lovely local pub just a short walk down the hill offering great local dishes and friendly advice. It was only a short drive to some of the Peaks most spectacular beauty spots namely Stannage Edge and Dovedale! Both highly recommended!

  • We absolutely loved Lucy's cosy cottage in Cromford. It is a beautiful home with everything we needed. Lucy was a wonderful host, easy to communicate with and very friendly. Her home was clean and very comfortable. We loved all the decorations and the feel of her home. We would definitely stay here again and recommend Lucy's Cosy Cottage to anyone visiting the area. The stairs are steep but we found that the winding staircase and three levels added to the charm of the house. If you are looking for a quiet location close to the peak district and a quaint little village to explore this is the place for you. Thanks, Lucy.

    Cass2017-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Faultless. Everything from communication with Lucy to the comfort and cleanliness of the home was just perfect. Beautiful house in a beautiful village. If you stay here make sure you go to Arkwright’s stores for Derbyshire oatcakes but they do sell out quick. Also there are 4 drinking establishments in the village. The Boat - great food at reasonable prices. The Greyhound - posh but nice. The Bell Inn - real ales, single malts and gins. The Community Centre - pool and a good all round venue. Also definitely worth visiting Scarthin books, Masson Mill, Cromford Mill and Parky’s eatery does a fantastic breakfast worth every penny. Try the black pudding it’s like butter! Lucy’s place is the perfect base to explore Cromford and you will love it. All the best. Paul and Kim

  • A vey comfortable cottage wit lovely décor. Location is great. Within very easy walking distance of a handful of pubs and restaurants. Cromford is a nice small town with a few shops for basics and is within easy reach of many Peak District towns and attractions.

    Tracey2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • What everyone else says!!! Lucy is an excellent host - a great communicator who has set up her house perfectly for guests. It is clean, cosy and well appointed. Also great value for money! The main road is quite noisy, but the house is double-glazed. My family and I would definitely come back!

Cromford is a must for those with an interest in industrial history and exploring the beautiful Peak District. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent and surrounded by wooded hills and cliffs, the village of Cromford is famous for its connections with Sir Richard Arkwright and the cotton trade, and often referred to as the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. North Street is the earliest planned industrial housing in the world and the finest of its type, built in 1771 by Richard Arkwright to house the workers from his pioneering cotton mill. Surrounded by countryside, it is at the heart of a designated World Heritage Site. Cromford offers a selection of quality bistros, pubs, shops and cafés, as well as Arkwright’s Cromford Mill and canal. You can also enjoy a visit to nearby: Matlock where antique hunters can enjoy a range of interesting shops (3 miles) Matlock Bath where the cable cars of the Heights of Abraham will offer you a whole new perspective over the area, known to the Victorians as Little Switzerland (1 mile) Chatsworth House & Country Estate (10 miles) Bakewell, a charming market town and home of the Bakewell pudding! (10 miles)
  • Karen's cottage is simply perfect for exploring Derbyshire. Situated close to Matlock and many many tourist attractions. The cottage is ideal for up too a family of four. It's very well kept, tastefully decorated and immaculately clean. The bathroom is lovely and we would absolutely stay there again. I'm sure many guests have commented on the steep stairs but as a experienced Amsterdammer, they didn't phase me one bit. Karen has equipped the cottage with lots of local info and helpful leaflets. What more can I say, we had a great time. Thanks you Karen!

  • Very clean comfortable cottage. Good location, Cromford is a great place to base yourself for a trip to the Peaks. Steep stairs!!

  • This is a beautiful house in a perfect location for walking , cycling and history ! Karen's home is beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable with everything you would need for a relaxing stay . We loved the wood burning stove ! There are lots of activities in the surrounding area and we could easily have spent a week here . The beds are so comfortable that the only problem was getting up and the shower is amazing !

  • This was a really great base - we chose this place as it was close to the attractions in the Peak District that we wanted to see. The house itself was lovely: really comfy bed, easy to use shower, and kitchen with all the bits you would need if you wanted to dine in. Karen kept up communication throughout and left very detailed guides on things to do in the local area. Cromford itself is quite quiet and has a couple of pubs and a restaurant in - ideal if you want a peaceful place to enjoy the Peak District.

  • The reviews of Karen's cottage speak for themselves. A lovely cosy cottage with all the amenities and extra touches you would need. We really felt at home and had it made our weekend very special. Cromford is a wonderful, quaint little village that I would definitely like to return to and is well situated to get to other parts of Derbyshire and the Peak District. Thanks for a lovely stay.

  • Enjoyed a lovely long weekend stay at Karen's. Perfect for escaping the city and relaxing in the country. Plenty of choice of local pubs and restaurants all within a short walk.

  • We had the most wonderful stay in Karen's home. An absolute gem!

    Harriet2017-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely, delightful cottage this is. My partner and I had a lovely, long weekend despite the weather not being the best. Karen is an amazing host and very quick to reply to queries and make suggestions. We would certainly recommend Parky's Eatery for eating locally. Great food and fabulous service.

  • There was lots of detailed information from Anya the host in preparation to our arrival and she responded immediately to enquires. The property is on a busy approach road into the village but this did not detract from the pleasant surroundings overall. The garden is lovely!

    Richard2015-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely beautiful little cottage set in beautiful Cromford. A real home away from home which is perfect for couples who enjoy walking and getting cosy at night next to the log fire. A newly wonderfully refurbished cottage with all mod cons including free view tv, iPod docking station and wifi. A beautiful garden with fantastic views from the top tier perfect with a morning brew. The log fire got so warm that the central heating wasn't required and enough logs left to last us all weekend. A couple of good pubs are available along the same road. The local chippy at the end of the road is worth a visit along with a tiny cafe also at the end of the road perfect for breakfast too and popular with local cyclists. I'll be back next year.

  • We had a beautiful stay at Toodles Cottage. Anya was fantastic with her communications, and we were not disappointed at all. The cottage was exactly as presented online, and the personal touches exceeded our expectations.

  • We enjoyed a fab stay at Toodles Cottage. The location of the property is great for exploring the peaks and we would also recommend Cromford as a good place to say, the boat inn is well worth a visit for a meal and the quiz night on a Thursday. The cottage was well equipt in essential items for the kitchen and bathroom. There was also a superb amounts of games and things to do in the evening or on rainy days. The garden was beautiful especially from the top level where the views over the hills were fantastic. Overall a great break at Toodles cottage and we would definitely return again. Thanks Anya for your excellent service and your lovely cottage.

**Autumn 2018 update- I’ve put the dates on the photos for the Matlock Illuminations. Matlock Bath gets very pact with parking restricted so it’s ideal to stay here, park and walk 10-15 mins past the crowds and frustrated drivers!. It’s well worth a visit. For booking Autumn and Winter please note you have a log burner and it’s beautiful to visit. Lots of walks and festive events. Pubs have roaring fires, dogs welcome most places. (It’s what enticed me to the area as it’s a lovely time of year). Chatsworth Christmas house decor as well as Haddon Halls decor is a must. Also look out for Autumn and Christmas markets. Come and stay. You won’t be disappointed. (Maps and info and waking books all in the snug). Deborah. Please see video: (Website hidden by Airbnb) December - bbc put a programme on about Cromford. It’s on iplayer. The pubs ponds and power programme. A very arty, historic, unique little space. Own entrance and full private use of your lounge/bed settee, kitchen/diner and shower/bathroom. Stocked kitchen ideal for cooking. So no need to buy everything. Please replace anything excessively used. Tea and coffee including fresh coffee. Hand blender. Pestle and mortar. Some herbs growing in the garden. Cottage (built 1740) is central village on the main road. Set in the heart of a beautiful quaint stone built UNESCO village full of shops, pubs, restaurants. No hill to climb as I’m right in the centre. No need to use your car if you want to explore the surroundings. Welcome to store bikes around the back. For yourself is the Lounge with bed settee Alexa tv with Netflix (use guest account), Amazon prime and iPlayer and log burner, full working kitchen with sink, new induction hob and oven with bistro table and chairs plus monks pew seat and a wet room/ shower with toilet and sink. Bed settee, brand new from Ikea and is clean and comfy. Bedding is put away underneath. Quick to get out. It’s huge. I’m not one for ironing but it’s all laundered immediately after each stay. Please note that I have the whole holiday cottage available for rent for larger families at school holiday times., however, by renting just the small snug, I can offer a cost effective stay to couples and single travellers. I live in the other side of the cottage myself but there will be little noise as the cottage has thick stone walls and I sleep on the 3rd floor. I have 2 little dogs who may on occasion bark if someone comes to the door, but I keep that to a minimum, and have sound proofed the adjoining locked door. My garden at back. Which you can share which is ideal for dogs and has a Moroccan gazebo, decking seating area, pizza oven (by request extra charge)and fire pit. This is located around the back of the property, down the drive. It is secure for dogs to play in. I will be in it most of the time with my dogs. You can pull up in the pavement outside to drop of luggage. Free parking is across the road also. I’ve had really good feedback with the snug but please note it is on the main road (but double glazing is good and your right in the hub of it all), the roads tend to quiet down in the evening and it’s quieter than Matlock a Bath. Autumn/ winter much quieter. I’ve had mostly 5 stars for cleanliness for the snug and its bedding which I spend a good deal of time on, however a someone who seem to want to find fault and appear to be ‘looking’ for any slight defect has spoilt 1 review, therefore if you know you are extreme in your cleanliness requirements and are wanting fine hotel quality, please leave that pressure to someone else. For the rest it’s all hot washed, clean and ready for lovely happy appreciate Airbnb guests who I will take pleasure in hosting and helping with any of your requirement.
Good public transport right outside, train station near by. Lots of shops, pubs restaurants on your doorstep. Cromford beautiful UNESCO village with canal and Historical mill and buildings. Lots of restaurants, pubs. An amazing butchers and deli right across the road. Convenience store. Paper shop. Postoffice. Chip shop. Antique shop. Cafes at the canal. The boat Pub has live bands every Friday. Right on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Matlock Bath 15 minute walk. ( Cromford is quieter and in my opinion has nicer pubs and restaurants). 20 minute drive to Chatsworth. Haddon hall. Live bands at the boat Pub every weekend. Thu night quiz. Great food. See Facebook. Barley Mo Bonsall a short 3 minute drive or steeper walk is the most quirkiest Pub I’ve ever known. My friend runs it, amazing bands every Saturday. Yearly hen race. Attracts a quirky eclectic crowd. Food fantastic. A real heart of the Peak village Pub and always a fantastic experience. (On Facebook too).
  • Great space with a comfy bed settee, everything you need. Don't be alarmed by it being on the main road through Cromford - when the door is locked shut you hardly hear anything through the thick stone walls! Lovely, quirky cottage with a friendly, accommodating owner :)

  • Stayed for the bank holiday weekend with my girlfriend and Deborah was so lovely, welcoming and accommodating with everything. The space is a great space for two people who want privacy with good kitchen facilities a lovely comfy pull out sofa bed and nice bathroom. It was a pleasure to stay here and we definitely will stay again in the future

  • Deborah is a lovely host, she makes sure you have everything you need and is very friendly and attentive, she even took the time to show me round the village on my first night. The snug is quirky and authentic and the pull out bed is very comfortable. There is beautiful countryside a short drive away. Kitchen is well kitted out for your cooking needs. Great stay.

    Victoria2018-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • As a non driver a great location for public transport. Deborah is an excellent host. It's right on a main road on a hill and on arrival was worried about road noise but it was never a problem. Never fully mastered the 'Amazon TV' but got BBCs, Sky News....,but never ITVs. Probably says more about my 68 years than the TV. Butcher, newsagent and general store almost opposite.

  • This cottage ticks all the boxes. Location is great, the space big enough for a family and well presented. Came as a family of three with our grown up daughter for a few days in order to explore the area. Wirksworth is close to Matlock Bath and other attractions. There is no on-site parking but a residence permit is provided for the Market Square between 4.00pm and 11.00am which is a two minute walk from the property. A pleasant surprise was the provision of a voucher for a free drink in the next door pub!

  • I stayed with my 6-year-old son at the Pauls place for 4 nights. he gave clear and detailed instructions for our arrival and check-in and it was a relief to find the parking was only a stone's throw from the Angel Forge cottage. We were greeted with a nice welcome pack of fruit, fresh flowers, biscuits and a pint of milk in the fridge. Pauls description of the Angel Forge cottage, the adjacent area's and Wirksworth itself were accurate so no need to repeat that here. The cottage was clean and well equipped with plenty of clean towels, bedding and all sundries required for a comfortable stay. The downstairs WC and utility room was a 'nice to have' for us and probably essential for larger groups and longer stays I enjoyed the setting and found several interesting paths and alleys leading back to the churchyard which was next to the cottage. Paul provided information things to do in the area and I particularly liked the folder detailing a number of walks in the peak district. All the instruction for the house and appliances were present and accurate and I could find no reason to contact Paul other than to say thank you at the end of our stay. I can see why Paul has super host status and I would definitely return.

    Conrad2018-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • What a find! This place was perfect for exploring the Peak District. Cosy and comfortable and in the middle of a beautiful town with all the amenities you could possibly need within walking distance. Would certainly recommend to friends and family.

    Jenny2017-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • As you can see in the AirBNB pics, Angel Forge is a lovely spot and bigger than we had expected. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Paul was there to greet us and show us around, which we really appreciated, especially as it it a bit of a secret garden tucked away behind its own wall. We stayed there as a base to visit Chatsworth House, which is only a half-hour drive away, but the village of Winksworth is charming in its own right, full of tiny lanes and alleyways and historic houses. The Airbnb description says it is behind a pub, and we thought that meant attached to the pub, but not at all - It is down a laneway and in its own private garden spot. Very quiet and scenic with the churchyard behind it. Paul has practically rebuilt the old Forge, using quality materials and authentic hardware. It was pretty chilly outside while we were there but the house was quite comfortable. In the evenings, we briefly put up the central heating a couple of degrees and were cosy in no time. We were charmed and think you will love it as well.

    Quiet retreat adjoining open countryside
The Anchorage cottage is situated in a peaceful corner of the village of Winster in the Peak District National Park adjoining open countryside. Photo 10. There are beautiful walks literally from the door step. Photo 11 is taken from the field behind the cottag (Website hidden by Airbnb) Dating from the 18th century this lead miners cottage has been sympathetically restored and now offers self catering accommodation throughout the year. The Double bedroom overlooks the village and surrounding countryside (Website hidden by Airbnb) The en suite shower room has a wash basin shower and toilet. The sitting room has a TV and a DVD player. The kitchen is separated from the sitting room by a breakfast bar. It is equipped with gas hob, fridge freezer, microwave and small cooker. Washing machine in separate building. The cottage is heated by gas central heating..There is a large well kept secure garden. Car parking on the premises, and free wifi.
  • Lovely cottage (open plan lounge kitchen downstairs, bedroom / kitchen upstairs) with cooking essentials and great gardens. Brilliant base for exploring the Peak District, c. 15mins to Bakewell, same again to Chatsworth house and c. 20mins to Matlock & Matlock Bath. John's a great host (had lots of good recommendations on activities) and was always quick to reply to emails.

    Sean2018-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • John’s little cottage was ideal for two, a cosy and well equipped place, good for a short stay. We enjoyed Johns beautiful garden in the evenings and John himself was a welcoming and helpful host.

    Simon2018-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay. The cottage is located in the garden of the host, John. It is directly opposite their house but you get access to their garden which was useful with our dog. The cottage is small but has everything you need. I found it very useful that the host leaves washing up liquid, soap and toilet roll and also puts linen on the bed and supplies towels. There are many beautiful walks nearby. The Old Bowling green pub is a two minute walk and serves wonderful food (be sure to book in before you stay, it’s very popular). We found we probably wouldn’t want to stay much longer than two nights as the cottage is small and we found we didn’t really want to sit in the small downstairs area for long. It’s perfect for a stay where you will be out a lot but there’s not much space to sit and relax on an evening and the downstairs is a little cold. The cooking facilities are limited and the parking is very tight. For the price though it’s in a lovely location and had what we needed. The host is very friendly and accommodating with useful info of the local area.

  • Wonderful helpful and informative hosts, beautiful garden,

    Pam2018-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What a lovely comfortable and tidy place, set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. All was well thought out to make our stay restful, with no need to rush out to the village stores - everything from soap to salt was already provided. Our host John was very welcoming and gave us lots of ideas and directions for places to visit whether walking or driving. Our dog had a great time as well with a superb garden to roam in, and straight up into the hills for lovely long walks. The village of Winster itself is a very picturesque place with its lovely stone cottages, well stocked village shop, two great pubs and friendly folks all around. There are well marked footpaths all around for walking and hiking, with superb views from the hills, and if you're driving anywhere the towns of Bakewell and Buxton are nearby, with Bakewell market on a Monday. Matlock is also a nice town with plenty of good shops. M

  • We loved our time at Johns cottage and enjoyed meeting him with all his knowledge of the local area. We had a very relaxing time and enjoyed walking around the village.

  • Jane's cottage is absolutely beautiful, and Jane is clearly a thoughtful host. The little touches in the cottage made everything so special - bath bombs, homemade marmalade, fresh bread and little jars of sweets! (I've never stayed somewhere with straighteners and curling tongs either!) I had a lovely time with my sister and we both felt so relaxed. Rose Cottage was everything we wanted and more! Thank you!

    Lois2017-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jane was an exceptionally great host, we felt very comfortable and cosy in her place and everything was very neat and tidy with a bit of small touches that made a difference, not to mention the fireplace that adds a lot more charm. The area is very quiet and close to all the good sights, definitely recommend the place.

  • Must have been the best airbnb we ever stayed at! The cottage is just lovely, very spacious for the two of us, lots of romantic old-world charm without seeming outdated. We really appreciated all the lovely details Jane took care of. Only sad we didn't get to stay longer.

    Jenny2017-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely, cosy cottage and a very thoughtful host who provides everything you could need, from sweets to books to CDs! We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer!! Thank you, Jane!

  • Absolutley fantastic value for money! Both myself and my partner loved it and didnt want to come away. we felt very at home at rose cottage. We had a walk into wirksworth on the first day, lovely walk with beautifull views and very welcoming pubs. The local pub "rising sun" was very welcoming, friendly and with a relaxed feel, shame they dont do food. We also had a day in the cottage relaxing and we did come away feeling very relaxed! Jane was fantastic at responding and communicating with myself. The cottage was a delight and would happily stay again..only for longer next time.

A lovely simple semi detached 2 bedroom bungalow, situated on a quiet private road in the heart of Derbyshire. From its courtyard garden Sunnyside over looks the beautiful Amber Valley and is a superb place to locate yourself for exploring the local countryside and towns such as Matlock, Belper and Cromford.
Sunnyside A is a semi detached bungalow, on a private road in the village of Crich. Inside is a spacious lounge with a sofa, chairs, TV/DVD and fantastic views across the valley. The kitchen diner has all guests need to prepare meals, you don't need to bring any salt and pepper! The bedrooms have open wardrobes and comfy beds. Outside is a courtyard garden with a picnic bench over looking the Amber Valley.
  • Joe's property is basic no frills but has everything you could need. Little touches such as milk, tea, soap when we arrived all went a long way. The bungalow is set up a little lane and is very peaceful. Crich is a great location for exploring the peak district and in our case Drayton Manor as well. It was clean and tidy and accommodation was larger than expected. For the price, you can't beat it.

    Lucy2018-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing accomedation, we found the place to be much bigger than expected and everything was spotless clean! Everything was easy to use and joe kindly supplied us with necessities. Highly recommended if you want to visit Peak District! Easy to get to.

    Selina2018-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay in Joe's bungalow. Everything was as described and was nice and clean throughout. Location was good, even though outside of main Crich village, but good buses to get around if needs be. Really enjoyed our stay!

  • The property states no frills that's correct, but it was great for the price. We were not in very much as so much to see and do. Chatsworth House and gardens is a must see. Easily accessible to the Peaks and surrounding area. Great time had by all!!

A lovely, traditional little terraced cottage located high above Matlock Bath, with stunning views over the Derbyshire countryside. Pretty, comfortable and sympathetically furnished throughout, this Matlock Bath cottage is ideal for a small family or group of friends to enjoy the delights of this beautiful part of the Peak District.
Despite being only a few minutes from the centre of Matlock Bath, the cottage is on a tranquil terrace high above the bustle. It's warm in winter and cool in the summer. Despite being new to Airbnb, we have been letting this property to great reviews for over four years.
The immediate neighbourhood is quiet, but Matlock Bath is full of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are lots of things to do including taking the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham or walking along the river and canal or up in the hills. There are many other towns and villages close by such as Bakewell and Cromford.
  • Lovely long weekend away. Though steep, so not necessarily for those with mobility problems, the cottage had the perfect location for us having come without a car. Just 5 minutes walk from Matlock Bath Station those not fancying the walk into Matlock can pick a return ticket for just 80p. Matlock Bath "strip" is under 10 minutes and, though steep it is only a 20 minute walk up to the Heights of Abraham. As well as the train, the 6.1 bus runs from the bottom of the hill into Derby, or a more country route towards Bakewell via Haddon Hall and Matlock Farm Park, and with a hop on and off bus ticket choice, it really opens up the exploring possibilities... The cottage itself was lovely and homely and enjoying evenings by the fire certainly added to the charm. Stunning views for the master bedroom and living room were complimented by the painting throughout. If traveling in the area, whether couple, friends or family, I cannot recommend this cottage more.

    Tina2017-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy and comfortable cottage - great value for money - well equipped, walking distance to Matlock bath centre - lovely log burner great to return to after a snowy walk - highly recommended

    Angela2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Nice scenery and close to several points of interest. But kitchen is like the size of a toilet, so we've to put away the thought of making a feast in the house and have to eat out every evening. Dustbin and freezer are out in the shed. Also no allocated parking space.

    Soh2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cottage in a truly stunning location. The hill may be steep but the view makes it more than worth it! Anne was an excellent host who was happy to help whenever we had a query. We found the cottage well located to enjoy almost all of the Peak District and had a relaxing few days. The homely touches, including the cookies were really appreciated. Thank you Anne!

    Anna2018-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Everything you need. Beautiful views. A bit of a treck up the hill in hot weather but worth it

    Julie2018-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed our stay at Painters cottage which had lots of special touches that other Air bnb properties are without. Tea and coffee and other sundries. Steep hill to walk up from village but in central location. We had difficulty finding on-street parking but had a pleasant stay.

    Natalie2018-07-15T00:00:00Z

Hidden away in beautiful Wensley Dale, locations don't come much better than this. There are superb views across the valley on all the lovely walks from The Forge. A brisk evening stroll along the road by the river will soon get you to the Three Stags and Square and Compass pubs in Darley Bridge. Matlock, with all its county town facilities is just five minutes drive over the hill. The space The Forge has been carefully created out of a mellow stone barn in the midst of the sleepy little hamlet of Snitterton. It has a lovely open lounge and dining area adjacent to the cosy sleeping area. The lounge has a comfortable settee with flat screen internet T.V.Freeview and Wi-Fi. The studio has a separate kitchen has with fitted units, microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge/ freezer. The bathroom has a fabulous shower area along with sink and W.C. Guest access The apartment is accessed through patio doors seen in the photo, completely self contained and detached from the main house. There is an allocated parking space adjacent to the entrance and a small patio with table and chairs for enjoying the rural setting
Don't forget to visit nearby Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the Peak Steam Railway. Other treats include Calver Edge's breathtaking views, Monsal Dale's wonderful waterfalls, the 'little Switzerland' of Matlock Gorge, Sunday breakfast in the Devonshire Arms in Beeley and the ultimate of meals in Stone's restaurant in Matlock. Make sure you get back in time for a drink on the porch!!
  • Excellent value for money, nice modern finish, in a great location, rural but very easy to get to Matlock/takeaways/shops etc. Hosts very helpful

    Gemma2018-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely space to come back to after a days walking, warm, private and comfortable.

  • Fast communication, excellent conversion, little touches that make a difference. Quiet village setting but only a mile or so from big Sainsbury's and Buxton town. Brilliant.

  • The Forge is the loveliest, most wonderful little hideaway tucked amongst beautiful scenery. We literally couldn’t believe our luck as we sat on the grass with a glass of wine watching the sunset on the hills. Wendy and John are outstanding hosts, and they made us feel welcome from the first instant. This was one of the best stays we’ve had in an Airbnb and we would highly recommend!!!

    Erika2018-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location, the friendliest pets ever and just an all-round amazing place. Definitely the best value for money!

  • Nice quite place

    Eve2018-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect wee place tucked away in a picturesque village in the Peak District, The Forge was a fantastic place for our weekend away! There were lots of yummy restaurants in the villages nearby (I can heartily recommend Firejacks in Matlock and Kosta's Fish and Chips in Matlock Bath), and with a Sainsbury's nearby all bases are covered. The apartment has a basic well stocked kitchen (no oven but good microwave) for breakfasts and preparing picnics. It was very comfortable - loved the couch! - and clean. Wendy was a lovely host and the resident cat and dogs were happy to come and say hello and have a cuddle :) Chatswood House and its farm shop are well worth a visit, and there are lots of wonderful walks nearby too! You will need a car to easily get around.

My place is close to public transport but a car would be advisable. You’ll love my place because of exposed beams and stonework, the homely cosiness, the views, and the rural location of a working Organic Beef and Sheep Farm. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
In the heart of the beautiful Derbyshire Dales and on the edge of the Peak District, Owslow Farm is a working organic beef and lamb farm and the cottage offers a combination of traditional features and modern accommodation. The property is approximately 400 years old and stands in its 400 acres overlooking Carsington Reservoir. It is very welcoming and boasts exposed stone and beams, and fabulous countryside views. **New for 2018** A beautiful blooming enclosed courtyard of trailing colourful flowers and pot plants, comfortable rattan furniture and coffee table for your enjoyment and relaxation at the back of the cottage. Everything will be clean, warm and welcoming for your arrival including linen and towels, and cosy beds (single beds have memory foam mattress toppers for more comfort and luxury). We hope that your stay at Owslow Cottage will be as enjoyable as possible.
You could make the most of the outdoors and our fields, and enjoy a 10-15 walk from the cottage directly down to the Carsington Reservoir track. You could also walk approx 20 minutes to 3 local pubs/restaurants. The nearest village of Carsington is quiet and lies between the market towns of Wirksworth (4 miles away) and Ashbourne (5 miles away) in the Derbyshire Peak District area. Matlock and Belper are also other towns which are easily accessible by car or bus. Dovedale in the Peak District National Park is ideal for walking and is 15 minutes drive away. For anyone wishing to hire bikes the Tissington Trail is just up the road and provides traffic free road all the way to the High Peak Trail in the Buxton area. The Manifold valley can be accessed in Dovedale. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Sudbury Hall, and Kedleston Hall are all only 30 minutes away. Alton Towers and the potteries are 30/40 minutes away making this a very central position for all these Derbyshire and Staffordshire attractions and many more as well.
  • Due to the weather situation we've been unable to get to Natalie's place. She's been great and offered to exchange dates for us. Many thanks for your understanding!!! We look forward to seeing you soon.

  • Lovely accommodation attached to the owners farmhouse. There was a welcome pack full of useful information and the cottage had everything we needed. The beds were extremely comfortable. The hosts were around if we needed them but otherwise kept a low profile. The cottage is on the farm in the middle of beautiful farmland very close to Carsington Reservoir.

    Catherine2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Myself, my two friends and our two dogs had a fantastic stay at Owslow Cottage. The location is perfect and Natalie and her family were very welcoming and helpful. The cottage is very clean and has everything you need. We all had a great time, we loved that we could hand feed the llamas :) Not a bad word to say about this property, ten out of ten!

    Anna2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Owslow Cottage as a group of five friends and had a really enjoyable weekend. The cottage is easy to find just off the main road and is in set in the stunning Derbyshire countryside - equally the noise of intermittent 'moos' and baas' don't let you forget your surroundings! Natalie and her family were very welcoming and provided some great local insight - The Old Gate in Brassington is one of the best pub meals you will find anywhere. I would highly recommend a stay here!

  • We stayed here for primarily for work as I was co-ordnating a wedding in a field the village so it was THE perfect spot me to be on hand over the weekend; it was also such a lovely place, in a lovely little village to stay in that it made me feel like I was actually on a mini break and (almost) not working! The hayloft was just perfect too it was just to our taste, old stone building, wooden beams, modern interior, tastefully decorated, well maintained and clean and was a lovely retreat to come back to after a few long days. Wendy was on hand/contactable if needed but left us to our own devices which worked well. We were befriended by a friendly black cat who seemed to be used to making herself at home but we enjoyed the company! Everything was great and would definitely recommend staying there.

  • If you are looking for a quiet, clean house which is also close to lovely Matlock,-this is it! This Airbnb is perfectly located for a stay in Matlock. Close to the main street, restaurants and attractions but very quietly tucked behind it. There is no street parking directly in front of it, but for long stays, permits might be purchased. Just a few minutes from the house is a large, secure station car park, with reasonable rates ( £1 overnight, and hourly rates during the day- which I thought were very reasonable) The room is large, with a comfortable bed, wardrobes, cosy armchair, and tea and coffee-making facilities plus biscuit snacks. Everything was clean and bright, including the shower and bathroom, and fluffy towels are supplied.

A beautiful cosy cottage just 2 minutes walk from the centre of Wirksworth whilst located at the edge of some of the best walks in the Peaks. We have a walled front garden for the morning sun and an enclosed rear garden for evening barbecues and views over the hills. Inside is comfortable with wifi, TV with recorder (and some saved films). The log-burner, rolltop bath and country kitchen add to the charm.
We've added as much kitchen equipment as we find we need when we stay; plenty of pots and pans, a hand blender, toaster, various implements (corkscrew included!) and we leave a welcome tray for you with some tea, coffee and biscuits so you can relax as soon as you arrive. Fresh towels and bedding, warm duvets and comfy mattresses make for a peaceful night's sleep for all guests. There's a washer/dryer in case you want to do your laundry, a freezer too in the outhouse and gas central heating and unlimited hot water throughout the cottage.
Wirksworth truly is the Jewel of the Peak; a great town with pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars, a recently-opened arthouse cinema and with plenty of curiosity shops, a lead-mining museum tucked away, a steam railway and not a single high-street chain. Should you choose to, you can get all you need from the town for your holiday without using the car. Carsington Water and other attractions are only a short cycle or drive away, with major towns and attractions just a stone's throw (Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne, Chatsworth House, even Alton Towers for the brave). The leisure centre, a short walk from Matchbox at the bottom of the town has a gym, pool and a climbing wall.
  • We enjoyed a lovely long walking weekend based in Matchbox Cottage. We were able to join Wirksworth circular walks from our doorstep and never felt the need to drive our car anywhere. You will find everything you need in the cottage, it was very cosy, clean and comfortable and a short 2 min walk into town, we didn't find any problems in the cottage and felt at home. The Hope and Anchor has now closed down in the town, but we enjoyed the 'Blacks Head' and had a lovely meal in the Mistral.

  • A great base for exploring the Peak District. A cosy and inviting cottage with all the aminities you could need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Local shops and pubs are a 5 minute walk and we would highly recommend a visit to The Feather Star. A quirky little pub with a great selection of beers and Ales. Friendly staff, board games and a roaring fire, what more could you ask for. Would highly recommend this cottage and location.

  • Great little match box cottage! Lovely place to escape for a night or two. Lovely touch with the log fire and enjoyed the roll top bath too. Thanks

  • Absolutely loved our stay at Matchbox Cottage. Great location with views from the front and back garden. The cottage had everything we needed and most importantly to us it was somewhere we could relax and feel comfortable. Also, the cottage was very clean and all of the house instructions were clear and easy to understand. We would definitely recommend Matchbox Cottage :) Also it's worth mentioning we stayed for 3 days and parked opposite the cottage with no tickets or problems.

    Emma2017-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, cosy cottage with all the basics needed for a short break. There’s a great wood burner in the living room and a luxurious bath upstairs to make you feel relaxed. Wirksworth is a lovely place and close to many attractions and amenities.

  • This cottage may be called ‘matchbox’ but it’s surprisingly spacious. Perfectly situated for lovely walks. Everything you could need. Definitely recommend

Nestled in pretty picture-postcard Winster, in the heart of the Peak District National Park, 300 year old Lancaster Cottage is the perfect luxury bolt-hole for those who want to get away from it all. In a peaceful, tranquil position with original features including cosy fireplace, huge settee & a dreamy, romantic bedroom with king-sized comfy bed with lovely views over the hills & private cottage garden. Ideally situated, only minutes on foot from 2 cosy real-ale pubs & lots of great walking.
Built in 1701 out of local limestone and Grade II Listed, Lancaster Cottage oozes character and is the ideal retreat for a luxury romantic escape. Recently renovated with cosy luxury in mind, it is packed with original features with beautiful wooden beams throughout, unique gritstone fireplace with cosy stove burner and thick exposed stone walls, it is a wonderful haven all year round. Maybe you want to snuggle up on the gorgeous comfy settee by the fireside or listen to the birdsong in the beautiful cottage garden with a glass of wine – the weather will help you decide! The position is perfect – situated in a little row of cottages with a car-free frontage with outdoor seating for enjoying that morning coffee. It is utterly peaceful except for the sound of bird song and the occasional church bells. Take the secret path from the front door and you’ll find our hidden garden, completely private and full of flowers, with seating and gorgeous views over open countryside. At night-time the light pollution is low so the skies are full of stars - and there is a firepit and blankets to keep you warm. The cottage is dog-friendly - this is the perfect area to bring your dog on holiday! Two dogs are allowed (extra cleaning charges apply). Located in the beautiful, quaint village of Winster with 2 great pubs a few minutes walk away, lively village shop and fantastic Peak District walks from the front door. This is the perfect base for walking and exploring Derbyshire’s Peak District National Park. With numerous walking trails and public footpaths including the Limestone Way only minutes from the house, 2 great traditional pubs (one is 2 minutes walk, the other a 7 minute walk) and Winster’s famous village shop, everything you need is on the doorstep. Once you are here, there is no need to get in the car again until you leave. It is also perfectly situated for exploring more of the White and Dark Peak with some of the best walks and stately homes in the country only a short drive away. Bakewell is a lovely town to explore, with lots of interesting shops and cute cafes. There is enough here to keep you busy for years! Winster is listed in the Doomsday Book and is now a Conservation Area, with most of its beautiful and unique 17th/18th century buildings being listed, built during Winster's leadmining heyday. However, despite the peaceful nature of the village, it is a real place with lots of character and friendly locals – great for a wander around the little narrow streets before you go to the pub!
  • Fab little cottage surrounded by stunning scenery. Everything in the cottage is geared to leaving you feeling very relaxed. The secret garden is great for night time star gazing with a night downer. Slept like logs in the very comfy bed & woke to the stunning view each day from the window. Two great pubs - very welcoming & friendly to both us and our 2 dogs. Lots of walks nearby - great location for exploring the Peak District. Couldn't of asked for more..... just maybe a bit longer as we didn't want to leave.

  • Lovely little cottage, perfect for a hiking weekend away

    Emily2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • I would definitely come back here again! Very cosy and romantic little cottage. Perfect for a couple trying to arrange a special trip. Katie also has one of the comfiest beds I have ever slept in. There are a couple of pubs on your doorstep and some nice walks to do. The cottage is the definition of hygge with darling little touches like fairy lights, blankets and cushions everywhere. If you struggle walking up hills, this place may not be for you as sometimes car parking outside the cottage is not possible. The hill can be a little steep. However, if you are happy to stretch your legs this place is perfect. I am hoping to visit this place in the winter and enjoy snuggling up by the fire.

    Harriet2018-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful traditional cottage in a wonderful village. Whilst the cottage is small a huge amount of thought has gone into planning the space and it is beautifully equipped and furnished. Could move in for good. Loved it. Don't miss out on seeing the garden. Wonderful.

    Jen2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic cottage in a beautiful setting. It is so cosy and relaxing, the bed is amazingly comfy! The pub round the corner has awesome food (and the pudding servings are really generous!) and there are loads of great walks and places to visit. Hugely recommend staying here if you want a cosy stay in the Peak District. P.S. Katie is so friendly and helpful and was in touch to make everything so easy.

  • We have just arrived back home from our stay at Lancaster cottage. It’s a bijou cottage nestled in a row of 4 cottages with picturesque gardens. Winster is a beautiful country village with friendly locals. There is a garden show this weekend so the neighbours were busy making the gardens ready - beautiful! Katie sent us very clear details on parking prior to check in, which we found very helpful! The cottage is small and compact which is fine for a short stay. Very comfortable bed and power shower. We especially loved the garden which was tucked away at the end of the garden path. Great for relaxing with a gin or two! Hills to access the property, steep stairs, low ceilings and uneven flooring may be difficult for some people, but we had no problems. We explored some lovely local places from here - Bakewell, Eyam and Matlock. Thanks for the wine, and for sharing your lovely cottage with us. Victoria, Cain and Willis the dog.

    Victoria2018-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Katie's place is exactly how it reads, cosy, gorgeous & romantic a perfect place to get away and relax and both pubs in the village are great and the local walks are fab

    John2017-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is exactly what we hoped for. It contains everything you could possibly need and the fire made the place extremely cosy. The cottage has been decorated to a very high standard with a very comfy sofa and bed! It's close to quaint towns to explore and near lots of great walks in the Peaks. Communication was brilliant throughout, the host really went above and beyond what we expected in every aspect. The handy information pack and walking maps were super useful! We had the best weekend in Katie's property and would love to stay again. I couldn't recommend enough!

Pretty little brick built victorian cottage, on the edge of Cromford, 5 minutes drive from the Peak Park
2 bedrooms, 1 double & 1 with a bunk & further trundle single bed. Huge bathroom with fire place, lounge, smart TV & DVD player, wi-fi, fully kitted out kitchen with washer/dryer, microwave, welsh dresser & dining table. Although there are fireplaces, please note these are not working! Back courtyard with plants, table & chairs & chiminea House can be accessed from either the front door, or via the back (which is our preferred door!) Available on request: high chair travel cot stair gate All bedding is included but please note you will need to provide towels. Parking is in the road on a first come, first served basis and free of charge. If you can't park close to the cottage, normally other drivers don't mind waiting a minute if you stop to unload your car.
Cromford is a pretty village, several very good pubs & restaurants serving food & often have evening entertainment, local food shop & butchers. A number of individual shops can also be found, including the famous Scarthin bookshop, which also serves tea, coffee & food in a cafe hidden behind a bookcase. Cromford also has a canal, where trips on barges can be taken, there is also the Arkwright Mills to visit. There are mill ponds through the village, we are opposite one of them and the biggest can be found behind the Greyhound hotel & pub. Close by is the old railway that is now a lovely walk and over the road from us, you can access the nature reserve as well. Nearby can be found Matlock Bath & Wirksworth.
  • A well-equipped, clean and well located cottage. We enjoyed a long weekend in the area, where there's lots to do, and would stay again.

A cosy, quirky 17th/19th century cottage with simple charm. Small, stone, single storey one bed dwelling that used to be the village shop. Log burner in the spacious lounge. A kitchen with everything you need and it's own secret garden with views of Riber castle which can be seen whilst sitting in the rustic garden room. Ideally located for exploring the Peak District National park and the beautiful Derbyshire Dales. Matlock 2.5 miles away with pubs, supermarket, restaurants, shops etc.
The cottage will be at your complete disposal, from the photos you can see there is a spacious lounge, a compact but fully working kitchen with all the utensils you require, if the weather is bad you could build a log fire and bake a cake! A spacious double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with a large walk in shower. Included in the price is bedding, linen and towels, tea, coffee and sugar. There is a log burner but you need to bring your own logs. Parking is on the road outside the cottage or just down the hill in the village square. Number 3 used to be the old village shop built in the 19th Century but some parts date back to the 17th Century! The outside space includes a small garden with a rustic garden room where you can enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying the distant view of Riber Castle or just lock up your bikes. From the garden a gate opens onto to the public footpath that takes you down to Wensley Dale, a very beautiful area with rare breed sheep wandering around and wild flowers everywhere. From here you could walk into Snitterton or climb Oaker Hill the views are stunning!
Thank you for looking at Needham Cottage, Wensley. A pretty stone village which was once a thriving lead miners community. The garden can be reached via the ginnel, ie turn left from the back door, keep walking until you see the gate with Number Three on it, that is us. Here you can enjoy the view and see Riber Castle in the distance. Togetherwith the unusual upcycled garden room, table and chairs. A public footpath passes the garden gate and this leads you down into Wensley Dale, not the Wensleydale where the cheese comes from but our own dale of outstanding natural beauty. The Area The Derbyshire Dales is a place of wooded valleys, with an occasional steam train chugging through, passing sparkling rivers with their ancient stone bridges and rolling green hills sprinkled with picturesque villages with their unique shops, cosy pubs and cobbled yards. Don't miss the Barley Mow at Bonsal or Wirksworth. There is plenty to do and see from arts and crafts festivals, pop festivals, antiques shops and fairs, markets, historic houses like Chatsworth and medieval Haddon Hall. In addition to this there is the world heritage site in the Derwent Valley for historians of all things industrial including Richard Arkwright's Cromford and Masson Cotton Mills, at Cromford. The summer events list is endless with Well Dressings from May to September, The International Hen Racing Championships are hillarious, beer festivals, the spa town of Matlock Bath with its theme park, The Heights of Abraham, the arcades and pubs with live music are about 4 miles away and not forgetting Matlock itself, only 2.5 miles downhill a pleasant market town with the river Derwent running through it, a lovely park with boating lake, several pubs, wine bars, music venue, market day is Wednesday, there is a large Sainsburys, (supermarket) Wilkos, Iceland and unique shops. etc. Parking for the cottage is either outside on the Main Road or in the village square just a short walk away. Thank you again for looking at Needham Cottage.
  • We had a truly lovely stay at the cottage. It was very warm and cosy, a perfect place to get away from it all. Views are amazing and there are heaps of walks right on the door step. There are many lovely little finishing touches in the cottage to make you feel welcome. We will be recommending to friends and would love to visit again. Thank you.

    Charlotte2017-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is very comfortable and cosy. It is well equipped and parking is easy nearby. We walked from the door into the dale on Saturday morning and visited Matlock in the afternoon. We also had a very nice evening meal at the Bowling Green pub in Winster. On Sunday morning we were able to have an early breakfast in the sunshine in the garden before leaving. We would like to visit again sometime and can highly recommend the cottage to others.

Thanks also for the tea, coffee and fire wood! 5 stars - the best place we have stayed on Airbnb! Joseph + Nathan

Beautiful 3 bedroom Grade 2 listed stone cottage in this historic village, formerly one of the Arkwright workers' cottages. Middleton-by-Wirksworth is an upland village lying approximately one mile of Wirksworth, Derbyshire, formerly known for its lead mines and high quality limestone quarries, including the underground quarry site at Middleton Mine. The Middleton Mine networks underground for approximately 25 miles with tunnels on three different levels running under Middleton Moor to the Hopton Wood. Middleton formed originally in the Saxon times as a small farming hamlet which settled around a very high spring. The former Cromford and High Peak Railway passes through the bottom of the village. The local quarries were linked to this line by a short branch spur, Killer's Branch, part of which now forms the track bed of the Steeple Grange Light Railway. This runs during the summer months at weekends and bank holidays. In the 1970s, the disused track bed of the Cromford and High Peak Railway and some surrounding land were purchased by the Derbyshire County Council and the Peak Park Planning Board, who then worked collaboratively to turn the former railway into the 17-mile High Peak Trail for walkers and cyclists. Middleton Top lies near the southern end of the trail, which starts at High Peak Junction. There is a car park and visitor centre at Middleton Top, where cycles may be hired. Middleton Top Engine House houses a preserved steam engine formerly used to haul trains up the 700-yard (640 m) long 1-in-8 (12.5%) gradient of Middleton Incline.
  • Helen and rod wasn't there when we checked in but made it very easy to get into the apartment! Had a lot of information on things to do locally and topped off with home made slices of cake! Very tidy and homely.

  • Myself and my partner recently stayed at the Miners Rest for two nights and I cannot fault it. The apartment was exactly as described and so cosy. Helen and Rod were so welcoming and had even baked us some gorgeous cookies on our arrival! Everywhere was clean and featured a fully equipped kitchen that had everything you need should you wish to cook. We especially loved the private balcony. The apartment is perfectly located for exploring the local areas. We would not hesitate to come back, thank you for your hospitality!

Helen was incredibly hospitable and the hot cross buns were a great surprise on Good Friday. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to visit Derbyshire and the surrounding areas.

  • My partner and I stayed here for a weekend whilst visiting the peak disctrict. The apartment is a lovely little place, part of a beautiful old building, but modern inside. Cosy and comfortable, with a fully functioning kitchen, great shower and comfy bed. Helen and Rod were fab hosts. They left us home made scones, jam and cream for our arrival, and milk in the fridge which was so lovely. Helen was very attentive and gave us tips for walking in the local area. We walked from the apartment to the moors and hired bikes which was a great day. I'd recommend Helen and Rods place, we couldn't fault it, and would love to stay again.

  • Annette's cottage is probably the best value for money place I have stayed in on airbnb. The cottage is decorated very stylishly and is immaculately clean. Highly recommended.

  • We cannot praise this gorgeous cottage and its friendly and helpful host enough. First class all round.

  • Clematis Cottage is a most beautiful cottage, which feels like home the moment you walk through the door. Annette was a fantastic host, messaging with directions and instructions. She also took the time to meet us there and had provided us with a welcome tray of supplies ! The cottage itself is well positioned for walking and days out too. It’s a little gem and we loved every minute !

  • This place is amazing! Such a home away from home. Stunning locations short drive to shops and attractions, dog walking routes on the door step. The host Annette is lovely, met us at the cottage with fresh bread and milk (and wine) quick responses to messages. Annette has thought of everything for your comfort e.g hot water bottle, chargers for everything, umbrellas, emergency packs, spare food, board and card games and many more. super dog friendly! Annette had a pack of spare dog bedding, towels, dog bowls, treats, poo bags, doggy shampoo and perfume anything your dog needs it's here! The cottage it's self is very homely, lovely comfy sofa's, luxurious beds, clean refreshing shower and bathroom, lovely big soft towels! welcome tray with biscuits, crisps, tea (flavours as well as usual) coffee, jam ... too many to name. Absolutely spotless!!! This cottage is equivalent to a 5* hotel but at the comfort of doing it all at your own pace. Great value for money! Child friendly (travel cot fits in bedroom) stair gate, colouring books etc. Would definitely recommend to anybody!!

  • Quiet village with Clematis cottage providing excellent amenities, especially for a dog owner. Lots of welcome goodies and spotlessly clean. Will recommend.

  • We had the most fantastic stay at Clematis Cottage, Annette is such a fantastic host and they have thought of absolutely everything and more that you could possibly need for a holiday!! We loved that you had gone above and beyond to make it a home from home for us including the fantastic book of local walks which clearly you had taken a lot of time over (and provide fab directions!). The house is finished to a such high standard and you can see that it is truly loved by Annette and Dean. We loved all the small touches you had made such as the welcome tray, honesty owl, soft blankets, Dvd's, and the food and doggy supplies! We can't wait to come back once we have our own fluffy friend! We could'nt recommend Clematis Cottage highly enough, the area is stunning for walking and taking in the scenery and knowing you are staying in such lovely accommodation is just the cherry on the cake! It truly is 5*, the best stay i've had and we can't wait to return! Vicky and Bobby xx

Nestling in the tranquil Village of Brassington the Old Co-Op Barn is a great place to relax away from the bustle and hustle of life. Fall in love with the traditional conversion of this ancient limestone barn. Renovated to an exceptionally high standard but keeping all the character and features of the original building. Lovingly restored with unique upcycled and re-used materials to delight your imagination. For that romantic weekend the main bedroom with roll top bath is just perfect.
The Co-op Barn offers you the perfect bolt hole for your holiday getaway. A unique blend of traditional style with all the home comforts for a cozy break. Special attention to detail by us means you don’t have to worry! We want you to have a great time here so have made an extra special effort to make everything perfect for you. The Barn cottage garden has decking and seating positioned to enjoy the views across the valley and up into the hills and dales beyond. There is also a picnic table and chairs for alfresco dining surrounded by flower boarders, stone walls and fencing making the garden a safe place for dogs and children. We have also attached 2 x D rings for you to lock up your bikes at night down by the back door. So, whether it is sitting out in the early morning with a cup of coffee watching the sun rise across the valley or watching the sun go down after a lovely day out in the fells whatever the reason we hope you love it as much as we do. Come on in and take a look…
The Barn lies at the west end of the village of Brassington nestled in a small group of cottages possibly a hamlet of its own many years ago. Brassington was a limestone mining village hence the numerous quaint small cottages and barns scattered around the narrow lanes and byways across the village. Enjoy walking around the lanes and looking at the stone walls and cottage gardens mostly leading down to the 17th century Pub. The whole village was built on a south facing slope giving it sunshine the whole day through and protecting it from northerly weather up and over the hill behind it. There are lovely walks and bike trails up and over the surrounding hills just waiting to be explored
  • Oh my what a super eclectic and stylish place with eccentric touches of the upcycling variety. So many great ideas to look at, use and discuss. We all loved it for different reasons but this place would be awesome year round.

    Rebecca2017-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely few days here. They are amazing hosts. The cottage is very newly done up (think ours were the fifth name in the guest book) and they've done a great job. Loved the bath tub in the bedroom and curling up by the fire with a good book after one rainy and two sunny days walking and cycling our way round the peaks (that's a ratio I'll definitely take!). Totally recommend taking a bike along the high peak trail which is just up the road. John's email before we arrived had so much useful information - thank you! Worth printing that out so you have directions and the key code as there's no mobile signal in the village.

    Caroline2017-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage, beautifully and stylishly done, in wonderful location. John very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend to others and will return there again myself.

    Liz2018-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • The location of the accommodation was excellent and allowed us to get about and see some of the sights around the Peaks. The house is absolutely lovely - well presented and spotless throughout, and the perfect space for a short stay for two adults and a baby.

    Paul2018-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • A delightfully unique and quirky cottage, well appointed and the added bonus of a luxury roll-top bath for a soak after long days walking in the Peak District. The village is wonderfully unspoiled with 2 fine pubs and good food available in the one we tried. We came for a quiet break away from it all and this cottage and place was perfect.

    Antony2018-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • A unique place in all the world. John and his wife have really built something special here. Definitely a hidden gem. If you say here do yourself a favor and make use of the bath upstairs.

    Frederick2018-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is in a fantastic location, with walks available direct from the door. Inside it has quirky touches everywhere and is a really comfortable place to spend time. The local pub, The Olde Gate Inn, does great food (we particularly recommend Thursday for pie night!), however they don’t have many tables so it’s best to book. Highly recommended.

    Jo2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • With it's red doors and window frames, the Co-Op Barn is very easy to spot as you arrive. The place has been beautifully renovated, and the decoration is quirky and fun. There's everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The small garden is lovely for sitting ou and enjoying the view. It's also a sun-trap, when the weather's warm. I loved the old style red phone, which was very handy for family to call. The little details made all the difference. An example is the emergency box for all those little things you can forget, like a toothbrush and toothpaste. We shall certainly recommend this place to anyone who would like to stay in the area.

  • Pip and Olav are amazing hosts and this is the best Airbnb we've ever stayed in (and we've done a few!) - so much so that we went back again a month later! Their place is beautifully decorated, sparkling clean and extremely well equipped. So many thoughtful touches, we can't recommend this place enough.

  • We had a lovely few days staying. The location is great as was the accommodation. Lovely personal touches & very well decorated. Would definitely recommend.

Pip and Olav think of everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The house is located near a lot of great activities, from cycling on the Monsal Trail to visiting impressive houses such as Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. And if you don't know what you would like to do, Pip and Olav have compiled a great list of things to do and places to visit in the area. • Olav and Pip's place is warm and welcoming, with lots of little touches to make you feel at home. It has a cosy atmosphere with beautiful views. Can't recommend highly enough. We loved our stay here and will be back in the future!

  • This was the best Airbnb we have ever stayed in. The location is stunning. The house is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and really well-equipped. Pip and Olav were so thoughtful, leaving us some basic groceries and homemade goodies so we could have a cup of tea and piece of cake on arrival. Pip suggested a great walk for us to do which was the perfect length for us with our newborn in a sling. We had such a great time we booked another visit within 24 hours of arriving!

    Paula2018-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Really sweet and cosy annex with a beautiful view of fields and hills. Great hosts who will make you feel welcome and at home. I can't recommend it enough!

We visited Eleanor's cottage for a small reunion with a group of friends and it was perfect for our needs. The living room had plenty of space for us to sit around and catch up in the evenings, the kitchen had everything we needed to cook for ourselves and the dining room was plenty big enough for us to all eat together. We even had a BBQ one evening, with a BBQ provided. The bedrooms were very comfortable as well, and the whole cottage was very cosy and welcoming - absolutely no complaints! The location is fantastic, with plenty of walks and local pubs that are easy to reach by foot, and the lovely town of Leek is only a 10-minute drive away, which has everything you could need. Eleanor had put together a great gift basket to welcome us to the cottage which was a wonderful surprise when we arrived, and overall, we had a very enjoyable stay. Thank you, Eleanor!

We had a wonderful Christmas at Swallows cottage. For family reasons we needed to be in Derbyshire and to be honest I was dreading not being at home and being in a cold, impersonal rented cottage. This is so far from the reality we found - a warm, cosy and very well-appointed environment, clearly loved by its owners. It rained the whole time we were but that didn't matter - we stayed in, ate a lot, enjoyed the wood-burning stove and began to work our way through the extensive games in the bureau! Thank you Izzy!
